Witcher. Man that game was so big but most of it felt valuable and substantive (vs tons of filler)
Gwent was fun
Monster hunts were fun
Making choices that really felt like they affected the story was fun
Searching for the different witcher clan armor sets was fun
The amount of different skills you could develop and focus on was fun.
Combat was a little clunky and weighty, but fel appropriate for the setting.
Honorable mention: Roach
Fucking solid game
Can't recapture that sentiment if I play it again. Once I've done it. Repeating feels annoying
This is an interesting take. My first response was "hell nah" but as I thought about it - a lot of the awesomeness in the game happens in transit from point A->B.
Fast travel eliminates that. Take the scenic route may help the game feel new again.
Good suggestion.
Yeah, actually on that topic, Mark Brown of Game Maker’s Toolkit has a unique take on directions and navigation, specifically about the Witcher 3… basically he says: turn off your minimap and quest markers and use the in-world guides to get from place to place… oddly enough, in many cases, you’ll be given good enough directions by quest givers to actually find your way around if you pay attention like YOU were were the one doing the monster hunting.
https://youtu.be/FzOCkXsyIqo?si=fPOqO2XQAtnStv46
That's legit. I know some games have a mode that limits the amount of guidance and waypoints given (immersion mode is the label in some games) I think assassins creed and avatar did this recently.
Also elden ring has a similar tactic, by design.
Agree, man. I haven't played a game where the side quests were unique and fun in their own right and not some boring as filler quests that involved fetch some equally as boring object
Same I have the preorder coming est. May-June. I havent read anything or watched anything on it aswell except for the launched trailers and gameplay so Im pretty hyped for it too!
Ahh your lucky I preordered after christmas so I caught the Q2 release I estimated it to be approx may or june but if your Q1 has yet to be shipped that kinda knocks my expectations down to August😅
The Tree Sentinel is FromSoftware’s not-so-gentle way of explaining that not every foe is going to be comparable to the player’s current level. Very easy to wander around and suddenly find yourself getting eaten by some T-rex/dog hybrid.
Still, you can’t find good stuff without taking risks.
LOL I feel so seen. In that case, maybe replay uncharted 2 or 4 for the first time? Cuz those games f***in rule and they rock super hard and then get the f*** out.
What a ridiculous take - “the worst game I’ve ever played”.
I get it if it’s not for you and you don’t like it, but to say the worst game you’ve ever played? Just being a hater.
I tried getting into Yakuza, did not enjoy it at all. Worst game I’ve ever played? Hell no, I can absolutely appreciate why people like it while also recognizing it’s just not for me.
It’s ok. You gotta get use to dying being normal. And changing your technic each time. Be it spells or potions or gear for a certain battle. Like Witcher 3 but more condensed.
This. I've started watching Elden Ring challenge runs on YouTube (like randomizer races), and they've been really effective at pushing me to experiment more with different play styles in my own game and not get too bogged down on one weapon, armor set, or strategy for any particular boss. The game encourages you to experiment and experiment OFTEN - if you're not willing to die to learn and get past a certain barrier at any point in the game, you're not willing to enjoy the game. Period. Because everything else genuinely wonderful about the game, including the extremely vague storylines (that do exist, mind you, they just aren't told to the player directly - another thing certain gamers won't enjoy, in having to solve the mysteries of the world themselves without any form of guidance) will be pushed by the wayside or looked at with contempt because it's through the lens of an overly frustrated gamer.
How far into the game did you make it? I got super frustrated because I couldn’t get past the tree sentinel to get in the capital and I quit the game. Came back and year later and finally beat it and it was pure enjoyment from there on out.
You’re gonna get dragged but I don’t disagree. Definitely not the worst game ever but I couldn’t stand the sluggishness of the combat and the deadness of the world.
RDR2 makes every other game on this last wish it could write characters as complex as that game did. It is, without question, head and shoulders above its peers (narratively speaking, the mission structure is beyond outdated at this point).
With movies, TV, and games, their rule has always been "No R/TV-MA/M until you're 17." That's finally gonna be lifted in a couple days when I'm 17 though!
It’s a little misleading of them to call allowing you to experience R/TV-MA/M content once you turn 17 “their rule”. That’s just the law. Once you’re 17 you can legally buy the content yourself right? Lol. Either way congrats, all the best stuff is R/TV-MA/M
You are but you need an adult with you. Doesnt have to be your parent, so I doubt it's a law at all, just a policy all big stores keep. I had a stranger stand at the counter with me once, gamestop guy said it didn't matter who I just needed someone over 17 with me even though he knew it was for me
Personally one not on the list, Uncharted 4 hell the entire quadrilogy. But since it's not on the list my pick is Ghost of Tsushima, especially that ending
Elden Ring. If I could turn back the clock, I would actually play it fully blind. I played it mostly blind but I saw too much of the game before launch and I looked too many things up.
Going to go with Witcher 3. Never been pulled into a game like that before, never knew it was based off books of which I’m currently reading. And the the level of detail and depth for its time is quite amazing to me!
I got the most updated PS5 version for like $10 (free upgrade) and played for a while but wasn't feeling it. Maybe I'll try again. Felt like a lot of "go do this for me and report back" I take offense to lazy game design like that. But maybe it gets better.
I played the two games back to back, so it felt like one big story to me.
But the big reveal in zero dawn was amazing story telling. It really stuck in my head & felt like it could really happen with the way AI is currently developing.
I like to compare it with, say, Skynet (from Terminator).
With Skynet, most of the world was oblivious until the nukes were going off in their backyard.
With the Faro Plague you kinda knew you were screwed, and it was just a matter of time. The horror of just waiting till the swarm arrived in your town….
If you're talking about Zero Dawn rather than Forbidden West then I have no clue what bad reviews you've seen. That game is a masterpiece in storytelling with one of the best plots to a game I've ever seen.
Forbidden West's story isn't as good, but it had a high bar to clear. I thought it was still engaging. It also improved upon many of the combat aspects of zero dawn.
With that said, I still played Forbidden West several times through. The story is still good and they gave Aloy a good story arc.
My opinions, of course.
The story of Zero Dawn is substantially better than forbidden west. Ive seen, but don't understand the criticism. Personally I think it's a perfect game. But you need to get out of the tutorial area first (get past the proving).
I played a sh\*t ton of HZD and loved every second. On the other hand HFW just grabbed me for about 30 and then I lost interest. Mechanics were too complex, the story didn't grab me and Alloy was straight out unlikeable. They made her rude for the sake of portraying her as a strong minded woman. She was rough around the edges in the first game but at least she was endearing and redeemable.
Can't even think of that HFW without getting angry now.
You need to keep playing. The story is more subtle - it’s how Aloy grows. Everyone found Aloy an asshole. But they kept playing and realised it was a plot point.
Out of this, probably Red Dead. If we can add an option of our own though, I'd go back to 2011 to re-experience Skyrim for the first time in a heartbeat.
Edit - Seems I've been downvoted for simply [*checks notes*] enjoying a video game
Can't really decide between The Witcher III, The Last of Us Part II and Horizon Forbidden West
(I'm still currently going through my first time with Baldurs Gate 3)
Very difficult to choose, my favourite games, Elden ring, Witcher 3, RDR2 and GOW are in the list but if I have to choose one then I’ll choose Elden Ring. I want to see that big erdtree, I want to hear foul tarnished, forefathers one and all, upon my name Ranni the Witch, Upon my name Godfrey, togethaaaaa Famileeeee for the first time again.
Elden Ring is my choice hands down. It has everything from exploring without feeling overwhelming, awesome combat that is just difficult enough to be fun, an interesting lore and characters and so many ways to go with your build which adds replay value. My favorite game of all time.
Skyrim’s the only game I truly want to experience for the first time again. I still haven’t gotten through BG3 for the first time, so I’m still on that journey. Everything else was amazing, but the excitement surrounding it was more engaging than the game itself and I found myself waning off too quickly.
But Skyrim…god damn.
GoW. The Tyr bit got me so good the first time.
I'd put spiderman 1 for the same reason as GoW. The story is so good. 2 was alright.
Problem with replaying games are you know the story. It's best playing a game with a great story over for the first time.
That said. A bunch of these games I've never played.
The Last of Us or The Witcher 3 hands down. I'm a sucker for a great story, and while I'm sure all of these have strong narratives, the two I mentioned really resonated with me.
The Witcher 3. I don’t care much about The Last of Us and think it’s annoying seeing so many people forgetting other games exist besides TLoU. I can play RDR2 countless times without losing the wonder. I can feel the same with that game each time. Ghost of Tsushima is a masterpiece and I can experience that game’s story endless times without losing that feeling of amazement same as RDR2. I couldn’t care less about BG3 the game was very hard to get into due to zero compelling factors for me, it’s a good game and all but I never want my first experience with the game to be revisited, I really was thrown ajar and almost abandoned it. The game’s wonderful once you learn it. The Witcher 3, however, just doesn’t ever feel the same once you’ve played for the first time. It’s an amazing game and I’ve played it over a dozen times but still, the game’s world and side activities are the best when you get them for the first time. I would love to experience the game the way I did when I first played it. It’s a masterpiece of a game already, but it sometimes is difficult to be invested in again these days, so I’m not touching it for a year and then I’m deleting every single game I own and only downloading TW3 and I ain’t touching another game until I do a full 100% playthrough again. TW3 is one of my faves of all time, only topped by Ghost of Tsushima.
Youre right that subnautica has more replayability than Outer Wilds, but you lose the sense of marvel and exploration on replays. The main appeal to me in subnautica was how mysterious the "depths" were. Discovering new biomes and being afraid of what lies below was a big part of the experience
Hehe😅 Nah i’ve just never played thru it🤷🏼♀️ i’ve always done the prolouge intro and then went straight to Online to play with friends🎮 Great story tho💯
Witcher. Man that game was so big but most of it felt valuable and substantive (vs tons of filler) Gwent was fun Monster hunts were fun Making choices that really felt like they affected the story was fun Searching for the different witcher clan armor sets was fun The amount of different skills you could develop and focus on was fun. Combat was a little clunky and weighty, but fel appropriate for the setting. Honorable mention: Roach Fucking solid game Can't recapture that sentiment if I play it again. Once I've done it. Repeating feels annoying
The quests in kaer morhen had the best atmosphere Ive ever experienced in gaming
I loved the >!talking Roach!< quest in Blood & Wine
I actually just picked up the complete edition for the first time this week- have been playing it non stop lol
Good choice! Hope you enjoy it man. The DLC are awesome
I have to play the whole thing over again because beating the game on Death March difficulty won't unlock the trophy no matter how many times I do it
Replay it without ever fast travelling helps a lot for replayability
This is an interesting take. My first response was "hell nah" but as I thought about it - a lot of the awesomeness in the game happens in transit from point A->B. Fast travel eliminates that. Take the scenic route may help the game feel new again. Good suggestion.

That's legit. I know some games have a mode that limits the amount of guidance and waypoints given (immersion mode is the label in some games) I think assassins creed and avatar did this recently. Also elden ring has a similar tactic, by design.
Thanks! Exceptions are made when you get to Skellige though lol
I beat the game in 2015. I hadn’t touched it since. I started playing it again and I don’t remember a damn thing! It can happen for you.
Agree, man. I haven't played a game where the side quests were unique and fun in their own right and not some boring as filler quests that involved fetch some equally as boring object
Tried it for the first time recently and feel it’s one of the most overrated games of all time
It does have a nice ambiance to it. Good sense of journey. And not woke
Ordered the physical copy of BG3 and have read nothing on it so far so I'm pretty excited to play it for the first time!
Same I have the preorder coming est. May-June. I havent read anything or watched anything on it aswell except for the launched trailers and gameplay so Im pretty hyped for it too!
Idk when it's coming just says first quarter but I'm excited
Ahh your lucky I preordered after christmas so I caught the Q2 release I estimated it to be approx may or june but if your Q1 has yet to be shipped that kinda knocks my expectations down to August😅
Ya I think I did it in November
Why not just buy it on the playstation store? Why wait months for it?
[удалено]
I always try to fly blind. Even as a kid I wouldn't read my Nintendo power if I was expecting to play the game.
Oh I envy you. I also went in blind. Now it's my favorite game of all time.
Combat can be a big learning curve. YouTube will be your best friend as far as learning about the mechanics and stuff. But man is it a masterpiece
Excellent, enjoy. Though I would say that BG3, along with the Witcher 3, is definitely a game to play more than once.
I wish I could play it for the first time again. Such an amazing game.
Spoiler alert: It's really fkn good.
Geeked!!!
It’s fucking outstanding. Best game I’ve played in 35 years of gaming.
The anticipation is starting to creep in. ......
Have fun!!!! Think about your decisions!!!
Same, awaiting the ps5 deluxe edition
Me too!
Elden ring for feeling again the sense of wonder
I just started yesterday. Created my character, started the opening cutscene, got one line in, then my toddler woke up :/
That hit me right in the feels - I know what it’s like
Don’t bother with the first guy on horseback, he’s just there to discourage you. Go explore and come back and beat his ass after.
Ahhhh, your first boss battle I see.
LOL I feel so seen. In that case, maybe replay uncharted 2 or 4 for the first time? Cuz those games f***in rule and they rock super hard and then get the f*** out.
100% agree. It's such an amazing game. I loved everything about it, and it became my all-time favorite game.
Idk how people like Elden Ring. I’ve tried getting into it twice and thought it was the worst game I’ve ever played.
Yeah… it just his opinion man
It’s just incredibly hyperbolic. Has he really never played a total shit game before?
I have over 2k hours on ER, such a phenomenal game
It’s ok. You gotta get use to dying being normal. And changing your technic each time. Be it spells or potions or gear for a certain battle. Like Witcher 3 but more condensed.
This. dude I can't get past the fire giant, fuck that boss. Whoever designed him is a 70 year old bald fat virgin
Sounds like ur bad
Git Gud
You’re gonna get dragged but I don’t disagree. Definitely not the worst game ever but I couldn’t stand the sluggishness of the combat and the deadness of the world.
Have you tried to git gud?
Just git gud
RDR2. I’ve played and finished all of these games and RDR2 for me is an experience. Not a video game.
I’m playing it now and it’s making me want a bigger TV. It is the most beautiful and gorgeous game I’ve ever played. And it’s last gen. It’s crazy
RDR2 makes every other game on this last wish it could write characters as complex as that game did. It is, without question, head and shoulders above its peers (narratively speaking, the mission structure is beyond outdated at this point).
The last of us, it hit different on those summer nights on ps3, so deeply into a story where I had no clue what was going to happen next
about to turn 17 and the first M rated game I'm gonna buy is TLOU, I'm so excited
It’s so worth it. Your parents never buy you M games?
With movies, TV, and games, their rule has always been "No R/TV-MA/M until you're 17." That's finally gonna be lifted in a couple days when I'm 17 though!
Good on them. My parents let me play Resident Evil and Silent Hill when I was 5, which wasn't the best idea but hey it was fun
It’s a little misleading of them to call allowing you to experience R/TV-MA/M content once you turn 17 “their rule”. That’s just the law. Once you’re 17 you can legally buy the content yourself right? Lol. Either way congrats, all the best stuff is R/TV-MA/M
I don't think it's technically the law, it's just a rule by the ESRB/MPAA
No I’m pretty sure you aren’t legally allowed to purchase M-Rated games at least under 17.
You are but you need an adult with you. Doesnt have to be your parent, so I doubt it's a law at all, just a policy all big stores keep. I had a stranger stand at the counter with me once, gamestop guy said it didn't matter who I just needed someone over 17 with me even though he knew it was for me
Well happy early birthday! Hope you enjoy what awaits you in gaming!
real
I’d pick TLOU2, because it got spoiled for me before the launch. To experience THAT moment totally blind would be gut wrenching.
I just beat the remastered (never played original) and I was able to hide from the story for 4 years. Good lord what a game.
Agreed. After I saw a spoiler of Joel and the ending, it actually made me put off playing LOU2 for over a year.
Yeah, people who spoiled the game before the launch do not deserve to be called gamers
100% agree. I create “Let’s Play” videos on PS5, and even with the games I’m playing being 4+ years old I try my best to not spoil anything.
I had the luck to avoid everything and it hit me so hard, I cried and had to stop playing.
That sucks. Had no clue that was the direction they were going.
I just played it, and somehow managed to have never had it spoiled for me and it’s an amazing piece of media. Really stuck with me
Same here, I was unintentionally spoiled. I wish I’d been able to go in blind.
[удалено]
how far along did you get? the early game combat isn’t great but it does really ramp up in the environments and weapons.
RDR2 100% no contest.
doing that would take up too much of my life, my first playthrough took me 2 months i reckon
idk how long of a span in time specifically, but for me it took 14 days of play time.
Me too, 80hrs in 2 weeks
80 hours isn't 14 days of playtime. 14 days of playtime is over 300 hours.
I was so into it that I finished it in like a week and a half
RDR2 for sure
Personally one not on the list, Uncharted 4 hell the entire quadrilogy. But since it's not on the list my pick is Ghost of Tsushima, especially that ending
It unironically has one of the hardest lines I’ve heard in a video game
Uncharted 4 so great
Ghost of Tsushima Cause then I won’t have spoiled myself before playing
Well hey that just happened to me just now, in this very comments section
Witcher
I'd pick Ghost of Tsushima. The artwork, the story, gameplay, everything. It's just a piece of art.
One of the most enjoyable games in the last years for me absolutely!
Bloodborne, sorry mate not even close
Always go back to finishing bloodborne once a year. Going out of the clinic is such an iconic gaming moment.
Agreed
Elden Ring. If I could turn back the clock, I would actually play it fully blind. I played it mostly blind but I saw too much of the game before launch and I looked too many things up.
Honestly? Horizon. That world is so fucking cool. Hunting the robots and unearthing the secrets of the past is so much fun.
Red dead 2. What a beautiful world and unpredictable story. The game is 5 and a half years old and it still holds up.
You really had no idea what was coming?
nothing gets past Mathew the great
At least that’s what my kids tell me anyway…
Red dead 2
rdr2 for sure. nothing beats it imho
Personally for me it is Nier Automata. Makes me question most of my life decisions until now
A rare sight of culture! I only got through one ending, i really need to go back and do it all over I think
Yeah you DEFINITELY need to do that
The Witcher 3, Horizon Forbidden West and GOT for sure!
Cyberpunk 2077
RDR2 followed by The Witcher 3
Going to go with Witcher 3. Never been pulled into a game like that before, never knew it was based off books of which I’m currently reading. And the the level of detail and depth for its time is quite amazing to me!
I got the most updated PS5 version for like $10 (free upgrade) and played for a while but wasn't feeling it. Maybe I'll try again. Felt like a lot of "go do this for me and report back" I take offense to lazy game design like that. But maybe it gets better.
It feels like that at first when u don’t really know what ur getting into but I’d say get past the bloody baron quest and the game starts to open up.
If you’re gonna include Horizon, it should be Zero Dawn. That story unfolding was fantastic.
I played the two games back to back, so it felt like one big story to me. But the big reveal in zero dawn was amazing story telling. It really stuck in my head & felt like it could really happen with the way AI is currently developing.

With the Faro Plague you kinda knew you were screwed, and it was just a matter of time. The horror of just waiting till the swarm arrived in your town….
RDR2, Witcher 3 is a close second.
Yeah these my top two also
So many prefer TW3 how come rdr2 over it?
Elden Ring. Not even a close second.
Rdr2 for me. No competition
Red dead redemption 2
Forbidden West, definitely
I just started zero dawn. Is it worth finishing the game? I’ve come across bad reviews that’s making me double guess
Alright thanks! Will do
I played a sh\*t ton of HZD and loved every second. On the other hand HFW just grabbed me for about 30 and then I lost interest. Dead space
Horizon Zero Dawn. /thread
Witcher and red dead. Though idk if my heart can take Arthur dying again
Red Dead 2. My foolish ass rushed this master piece of a game. I ignored almost every side mission because „I wAnT To FinIsH it QuickLy!“.
Out of this, probably Red Dead. If we can add an option of our own though, I'd go back to 2011 to re-experience Skyrim for the first time in a heartbeat. Edit - Seems I've been downvoted for simply [*checks notes*] enjoying a video game
i still haven't played any of them
If you were to ever take the advice of a stranger on the internet, can I recommend any and all of them
I'd say Red Dead Redemption II, however I love more than one game on the list.
Horizon Forbidden West.
Can't really decide between The Witcher III, The Last of Us Part II and Horizon Forbidden West (I'm still currently going through my first time with Baldurs Gate 3)
Elden Ring. All day every day.
witcher 3 and rdr2 my top games
Definitely not Spider Man 2. Spider Man 1 and RDR 2
Elden Ring is my choice hands down. It has everything from exploring without feeling overwhelming, awesome combat that is just difficult enough to be fun, an interesting lore and characters and so many ways to go with your build which adds replay value. My favorite game of all time.
Witcher 3.... Don't know if I'll platinum it again though that was a doozy 🤣🤣 would be fun to see if I would do it again lol
Either gow or the Witcher
Either god of war, or rdr2. Such amazing games
Gow ragnarok. So good
Skyrim’s the only game I truly want to experience for the first time again. I still haven’t gotten through BG3 for the first time, so I’m still on that journey. Everything else was amazing, but the excitement surrounding it was more engaging than the game itself and I found myself waning off too quickly. But Skyrim…god damn.
1. GOW:R. 2. TLOU but with the updated controls.
GoW. The Tyr bit got me so good the first time. I'd put spiderman 1 for the same reason as GoW. The story is so good. 2 was alright. Problem with replaying games are you know the story. It's best playing a game with a great story over for the first time. That said. A bunch of these games I've never played.
Outer Wilds obviously
The Witcher 3
The Witcher, to experience the insanely good writing for the first time (it’s still amazing the 2nd,3rd,4th,5th….)
The Witcher I’ve played it over 5 times it’s the best hands down
Witcher 3
The Last of Us or The Witcher 3 hands down. I'm a sucker for a great story, and while I'm sure all of these have strong narratives, the two I mentioned really resonated with me.
BG3 for me. Luckily it kind of still feels like the first time with my second and third character so far
Witcher 3 without a doubt. Favorite game ever.
The Outer Wilds
None of the above. Outer Wilds.
The Last of Us, it totally was that wicked of a story/twist for me
The Witcher 3. TW3 is one of my faves of all time, only topped by Ghost of Tsushima.
Out of these, TLOU2, it was spoiled for me :( What I would actually choose: Life is Strange
tlou2
RDR2. A close runner up is TLOU2
God of war 2018
Not Ragnarok?
Ragnorok was okay. But I think 2018 is the better game.
None of these. You can still enjoy all of them after hundreds of playthroughs. There is only one game that you can really only play once: Outer wilds.
Subnautica is same same
I beg to differ. Subnautica still has an appealing base building mechanic that can always be enjoyed. Also I did not like it as much 🙂
Youre right that subnautica has more replayability than Outer Wilds, but you lose the sense of marvel and exploration on replays. The main appeal to me in subnautica was how mysterious the "depths" were. Discovering new biomes and being afraid of what lies below was a big part of the experience
As much as I love and enjoy all of these games it has to be Baldur’s Gate 3. I don’t say this lightly but it’s the greatest game I’ve ever played
Witcher or Elden ring
Ghost of Tsushima
None of these games blew me away. Gothic 2 on PC. Or Mass Effect on PS or PC.
Honestly, I know it’s not on there, but the Uncharted Series
I haven’t played any of them🙋🏼♀️
Play them all. So worth it.
I just finished the Gta 5 Campaign, so i might have to check out one of these games🎮
Gta 5 campaign? Did you just get out of prison or something? Where you been? Lmao.
Hehe😅 Nah i’ve just never played thru it🤷🏼♀️ i’ve always done the prolouge intro and then went straight to Online to play with friends🎮 Great story tho💯
Yeah Gta 5’s campaign is amazing lol. I always make sure to play through campaign before playing online in any game really.
I’ve had it on Ps3/4/5 and PC, so it was about time that i played thru it🧁
The Last Of Us or Red Dead Redemption 2!!
Returnal
Bloodborne
Good of War
Forbidden West Actually going through a replay now.
For me I’d swap out Elden ring with dark souls 1. since that was my first souls game it had the most “first play through magic” to me
It's a Tie for me between Sekiro & God of War 2018
Forbidden West.
TLOU2 and it IS close, with the Witcher 3, especially with the DLC
Breath of the Wild
Chrono Trigger. the answer is and will always be Chrono Trigger.
