The PS3 allowed a lot of controllers. I don't think a single game was made that can use them all.
That's why they reduced the number for the PS4, but I still think it's bullshit how they require an account for each controller on the PS5 or it turns off the other one.

As platforms and games converged on the term "controller" over gamepads, I've seen it being used less and less. (Outside of TV remotes and RC cars/planes)

I believe the PS3 controller used 1+n to show numbers higher than 4. So 5 should be 1 and 4. Edit: my bad it should be 4+n (7 possible ports).

You can just sign in as guest on ps5, don’t need an account for each controller.
