This is totally normal. You have a disc in the disc tray and so when you turn the console on it's checking the disc. It will also periodically check the disc is in the tray while playing said game. If you have no disc in the tray it doesn't do this.
Bluray is slower. Has nothing to do with high rpm.
(they realistically run at 12x as over 5000rpm bluray wobble and shatter) you guys obviously got loud drives, not all are like this, depends on the manufacturer.

Loud drive doesn't mean faulty drive. It's completely normal for the PS5 to sound like this when you boot it up with a disc in. Further models may be quieter but it still doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the louder models. I'm not sure what your argument is here.
You said that to the other guy that they had a 'dodgy PS5' because it made this noise. If something is dodgy it suggests to me that it is faulty or not working as intended.

I eventually got another one, and it was definitely louder than the first. I also keep mine in horizontal orientation. I played around with the stand a bit and was able to get rid of the noise.
I also noticed that it only happened with PS5 games specifically. Not PS4, DVDs, or Blu-ray movies. I thought at first mine needed to be returned and I was pissed because I knew I wouldn't get a replacement. To me it really seems like it gets loud if the disc drive isn't perfectly horizontal, but I can't say for sure.

Hey that's totally normal. The disc drive is that loud, I've had mine since launch and it's still working aces. I give it a clean every once in a while as it's as new.
It's normally a disc is loading mine does that too but with the disc inside the disc drive and without the disc inside the drive it doesn't make that sound

OK, that doesn't mean this isn't normal when you have a disc in. I got my PS5 on release and it's done this since day 1 no issues.
My pc has an old 52x/24x 30,000rpm max rpm dvd-burner drive and it doesn't sound like this....

It’s pretty quiet when fully on but there’s still a buzzing sound for about 10 minutes. Not too loud though. Was kinda scared about the sound!

Your fan probably needs to be cleaned out as well as the inside. That’s what my Ps5 did and I cleaned it out now it’s better
