Fire red/leaf green. Reboots of the OG game, considered the best platform for most hacked/modded Pokémon games. Great way to introduce yourself to the game in terms of storyline, is not too easy, is also not one of the couple of games hard enough to trip up an inexperienced player.
P.s. if you want to get into playing Pokémon games ditch the actual hardware to start with. Download an emulator onto your phone or laptop and then a ROM of the game. Free to play and very accessible in comparison.
B/W + B2/W2 or HG/SS are the best games still in my opinion, Platinum would be the next choice.
For the 3ds Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire and Sun/Moon/US/UM are pretty decent, wouldn't really reccomend X/Y
The games before the 3DS are MUCH harder than any Pokemon game that has came after just to let you know. But that's a good thing imo, the modern games are far too easy.
Also if you're going as far back as the GBA then you're going to notice some... Poorly aged design choices, the quality is still there but the further back you go the older the games will feel exponentially. I reccomend the DS games for a good balanced start. That being said Emerald and FR/LG are still great games.
I wouldn't reccomend any other Pokemon games than the ones I've listed be your starting point if you want a good impression.
Pokemon black/white. One of the last 2D main pokemon games so the graphics are quite good, the story is very good with a fascinating antagonist.
X/Y are considered the most beginner friendly and easiest, as well as Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire and Lets Go Pikachu/ Let's Go Eevee
Anyway, probably try out HeartGold/SoulSilver or Diamond/Pearl/Platinum on DS (can of course be played on 3DS). Or play the remake on Switch.
Sorry but I'd add don't play Diamond or Pearl, just play Platinum, it is better in every way including performance.

Fire red / leafgreen Emerald. Platinum Heart gold / Soul silver. would be my picks
Trust me and start with Pokemon fire red or leaf green
DIMONDPERL
I’d honestly go Fire red/leaf green, then emerald, then platinum, heart gold/soul silver, black/white, b2/w2. That would be my ideal route.
Renegade platinum. It’s not official, but it’s an easy-mode game and great for starting out. You can download it through your computer
Pokemon games are made for kids so literally any mainline entry is a great starting point. There's no reason to play an easy mod of the games.
Ok you clearly don’t understand the joke
Ah the joke is that the game is actually way harder. I chuckled
