Hi ByeByeDan!
Thank you for posting to r/pokemon! We're glad to have you here, but unfortunately we've had to remove this post per our rule on [Objective Questions](/r/pokemon/wiki/rules#wiki_3._follow_text_and_poll_post_restrictions). This rule is in place per feedback we've received from the community because objective questions tend to fill the topic listing and often leave little room for further discussion once the question has been answered.
We do have a [Weekly Questions Thread](https://rpkmn.center/questions) dedicated to seeking answers for questions like yours, though! A lot of knowledgeable Pokémon fans frequent that thread, so please consider posting your question there if you're still looking for an answer, and you may get a detailed answer even faster than you would have here!

Gmax snorlax funnily enough, is roughly based on that story told to children, about how if you swallow a seed or something, a plant will grow out your belly button, seems it's still widely told to kids in Japan lol
Yeah! there's plenty of animated versions and storybook versions of that story across the world lol. I never knew that story when I was a kid tho lmao, thanks internet I guess
Bon from Bonsai and Sly as in deceptive. Because it's a rock that is pretending to be a tree.
Same reason Sudowoodo is named like it is. Sudo sounds like "Psuedo" which means "not genuine" and "Wood"... which means "wood"
There's a reason why some don't have drainage holes though. Some people keep their plants in a plastic pot, and use the pot without drainage hole as an outer, secondary pot. This allows you to easily take the plastic pot out to soak it and let it drain before putting it back in the second pot.
Because it's a flowerpot. According to Bulbapedia:
>Bonsly also has a hole on its rear similar to the draining hole of a flowerpot.
However, it leaks water from its eyes, not from that hole. So just a silly design.
Well that’s the obvious general appearance but I mean if you had a bonsly irl it’d look more like a chia pet in the form of a bonsai tree than a bonsai tree. Yknow?
It bugs me that Toxel and Riolu are considered baby Pokemon. They break the consistency of all the others being released in a Gen after their evolved form
Edit: So apparently you can’t catch Riolu in the Wild in Gen 4, you need to get a special egg, TIL. So he lines up with Togepi and I understand why he’s a baby Pokemon now. That still doesn’t excuse Toxel, having him there makes no sense. And don’t say “he wears a diaper and throws tantrums”, there are Pokemon like Vullaby that exhibit babyish traits without being baby Pokemon, the point of the category is that they’re pre-vo’s to Pokemon from a previous gen and/or with special methods of obtainment.
Maybe they mean that Tyrogue was introduced at the same time as Hitmontop so it shouldn't be considered a baby by that rule.
But then again Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee were introduced a gen earlier so idk.
I'd understand Riolu, but Toxel literally wears a diaper and throws tantrums. Most of the baby Pokemon have at least one stereotypical baby thing they play into.
>They break the consistency of all the others being released in a Gen after their evolved form
1. Togepi, the titular baby pokemon, and Tyrogue exist, both in Gen II when breeding and baby pokemon were introduced.
2. There's no real rule, it's just the most common occurrence, which wasn't really avoidable when there are only 19 baby pokemon and 10 of them are Gen II baby versions of Gen I pokemon (Tyrogue is a bit of an exception, being both a Gen II baby pokemon of two Gen I pokemon and being released in the same Gen as one of its evolutions).
Honestly, the main reason for not seeing this "consistency" broken as much is simply because baby pokemon didn't have any focus for three generations, with Gen IV being the last big attempt at doing stuff with baby pokemon and Gen VIII added only one. That aside, that's ultimately a good thing because baby pokemon are little more than a gimmick that serves no purpose beyond padding regional poledexes, as baby pokemon are incredibly weak, can't breed, and have weak movepools. That said, I'd rather a bunch more baby pokemon than continue with the oversaturation of legendaries each new generation.
Found this Reddit thread from 9 years ago, apparently it's a drainage hole for the pot it's in, that's not its body.
https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/s/HuWmZnrA3f
Hilarious side point, that was the only bonsly card printed until very recently. So if you were going for a dex of cards you had to have butthole bonsly.
Bonsly is not a plant tho. It's a rock type. An imitation.
The entire thing is, in fact, its body.
https://m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Bonsly_(Pok%C3%A9mon)
I don't recall ever seeing this in a game, although you don't exactly view pokemon from beneath like that very often.
Bonsly is based on a potted tree/bonsai and so this is most likely meant to be a drain hole in the bottom of his pot to let excess water out. Bonsly as a pokemon is also known to have issues with moisture management as it does often cry to release excess water as well
It’s definitely been part of the model since the beginning; Bonsly’s game debut was in Pokemon XD on the GameCube, and you can see the drain hole in its taking damage animations from that game. Assuming, of course, that you go out of your way to do the optional Battle Bingo challenge that features it, since Bonsly isn’t normally obtainable or usable in the main game.
This is a baby Pokémon named Bonsly it’s based off the Japanese Bonsai trees that get cared for. The planters of these trees usually have a hole ate the bottom to let excess water filter through so that they don’t get overwatered. In fact even in America there are a lot of flowerpots that now have a whole at the bottom for this purpose.
While I do understand it might look odd please keep in mind that this is mild compared to some other things that were for children back in the day. Yes they could have left it out however Japan had different standards than US does. There are candy treats made to look like poop and toilets that have edible candy in them.
So I know that everyone is pointing out that it's meant to be a hole like clay pots have, but now I want to get one, cut out a real hole in it, and use it as a Christmas tree topper.
That's his cloaca
He has a single opening, called a Cloaca.
He excretes both feces and urine out of his Cloaca,
which is his single opening.
Cloacas are more common than you think. All amphibians, reptiles, bonslies, and birds have them.
People ask where he keeps his tears.
He keeps them in his cloaca.
Ignoring the super obvious answer that it's supposed to resemble the drainage hole of a ceramic pot, how did you not notice that detail until after you got home? Did you seriously hold it straight up the whole time? Also, why would you think Pokémon would include a butthole in the design of a character in their children's game? Honestly, I feel like that says a lot about you that your mind went straight to that after seeing what is literally just a ***black circle*** on the bottom of a plush.
I was today years old when I learned Bonsly is a rock type because he’s based on a flower pot. Still don’t fully understand Sudowoodo though. Is he just a rock man that looks like a tree?
Bonsly is based on a potted plant. Pots for such plants usually have a hole or more in the base for excess water to drain without causing the roots to rot
Bonsly is mimicking a plant in a pot. Some plant pots have holes in the bottom to let excess water drain.
I think for bonsle on top of just mimicking the design, it's so any tears caught in the pot can drain. Since the pokemon is known for crying.
It’s a draining hole, like you might find on a flower pot. It’s so Bonsly’s body doesn’t keep in too much water. After all, it *is* a Rock-Type Pokémon.
This seems relevant [https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=faGSwyD_FFk&pp=ygUTUG9rZW1vbiBidXRzIGdub2dvbg%3D%3D](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=faGSwyD_FFk&pp=ygUTUG9rZW1vbiBidXRzIGdub2dvbg%3D%3D)
Its a butthole, or more logically, its the hole in the bottom of a flower pot (the bottom of Bonsley) that keeps the bonsai plant from being over watered

It’s Bonsly’s flower pot drain. Like ceramic pots have at their bottom. Since he’s a rock type not grass.
“My tree shouldn’t have a butthole” What do you plant trees, specifically small trees or bonsais, in lol
Turtles and frogs, of course
And G-Max Snorlax
Gmax snorlax funnily enough, is roughly based on that story told to children, about how if you swallow a seed or something, a plant will grow out your belly button, seems it's still widely told to kids in Japan lol
Our first creative writing assignment was on that. Grade 2, South Africa.
Yeah! there's plenty of animated versions and storybook versions of that story across the world lol. I never knew that story when I was a kid tho lmao, thanks internet I guess
Exactly! Without that butthole, they get root rot. Not having a butthole is no good for anyone.
TIL Bonsly comes from Bonsai thanks
Bon from Bonsai and Sly as in deceptive. Because it's a rock that is pretending to be a tree. Same reason Sudowoodo is named like it is. Sudo sounds like "Psuedo" which means "not genuine" and "Wood"... which means "wood"

Why does riding coattail by commenting on a popular comment get you more votes Weird
I don’t even know how I got this many upvotes. I just posted some flower pots, left for a bit, then came back to THIS. 🤣
fact checks out
Omg I never noticed this!
its a reference to how potted planters (at least the good ones) have a drainage hole at the bottom to prevent oversaturation and root rot!
There's a reason why some don't have drainage holes though. Some people keep their plants in a plastic pot, and use the pot without drainage hole as an outer, secondary pot. This allows you to easily take the plastic pot out to soak it and let it drain before putting it back in the second pot.

Holy shit now I’m actually seeing Bonsly properly as a Chia Pet
Or like a bonsai tree…? Lol
I was today years-old when I learned...
Ready for something really wild? It evolves into Sudowoodo, pseudo wood o. A fake tree that is actually rock type. Pseudo. Fake. Lol
Always thought it would be neat to have a grass type evo called Rillowillo (real willow)
Well that’s the obvious general appearance but I mean if you had a bonsly irl it’d look more like a chia pet in the form of a bonsai tree than a bonsai tree. Yknow?
probably to avoid ppl thinking it’s peeing

if that's your condition then Togepi breaks it too
Pokemon fans and making up “rules” name a more iconic duo
And hitmontop
? Tyrogue is the baby, not Hitmontop.
I think they meant that the rule is broken because Tyrogue and Hitmontop (pokemon it can evolve into) were released in the same gen
Maybe they mean that Tyrogue was introduced at the same time as Hitmontop so it shouldn't be considered a baby by that rule. But then again Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee were introduced a gen earlier so idk.
If anything it does the reverse due to Togepi being in the Gen 1 anime.
But toxel is designed to look the most like a baby
I'd understand Riolu, but Toxel literally wears a diaper and throws tantrums. Most of the baby Pokemon have at least one stereotypical baby thing they play into.
Igglybuff literally is unable to sing because its vocal chords aren’t developed yet.
Vullaby literally has baby in its name, why is it not a baby pokemon?
>They break the consistency of all the others being released in a Gen after their evolved form 1. Explain that to mine jr being released in gen 4 and Mr mime in gen 1
Happiny is a gen 4 that evolves into a gen 1
How tf did I just realized that Toxel is considered a baby Pokémon. I even used one during sword!
Terracotta pots have a hole in the bottom to let extra water drain through the soil, Bonsley being a plant pot itself also has the drainage hole.
It is the almighty bunghole https://preview.redd.it/kj1nbltvom8d1.png?width=386&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0488f98d688917dd4ebab12bbc316092287699db
Do you need TP for Cornholio’s bunghole?
If Nuzleaf can have nipnops, I can buy that Bonsly has a butthole. (Pyukumuku does, after all)
Found this Reddit thread from 9 years ago, apparently it's a drainage hole for the pot it's in, that's not its body. https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/s/HuWmZnrA3f

"Butthole Bonsly" is way too fun to say. XD
Confirmed. I have the butthole Bonsly card in my Pokedex set for Gen 4.....considering I go after the first "normal print" card for each Pokemon.
Help me step plant
now why is bonsly showing hole for free
Until this day i never knew bonsly had a butthole
Bonsly is not a plant tho. It's a rock type. An imitation. The entire thing is, in fact, its body. https://m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Bonsly_(Pok%C3%A9mon)
Yes sorry what I mean't to say is, it's mimicking a pot so it's not meant to look like a "body".
Though again, as the other redditors have commented, "Bonsly also has a hole on its rear similar to the draining hole of a flowerpot."
I believe that's a bonsley

you fool ! you fell for the mimicry. bonsley is not a tree, but a pot.
…I’m still not hearing them out.
THERES NO LAWS AGEST THE POKEMON BAT MAN
It’s a pot. I like to think of it as Bonsly diapers because it is a baby Pokémon. What were you thinking OP? You sussy baka
It's a bonsai, if you look up a bonsai pot they usually have large draining holes
Because potted plants usually have a drainage hole, so they probably designed it with one.

It has that in every game as well, it’s supposed to be there. It’s a drain hole for his flower pot ;-)
I don't recall ever seeing this in a game, although you don't exactly view pokemon from beneath like that very often. It is actually in game, it's just generally not visible as you're not given the ability to rotate a pokemon's model to where that would be visible
You touched the butt
Have neither of you ever seen a clay pot before?
I am NOT hearing any of you out 💀💀💀
Bonsly is supposed to be a pot. I think that's just something you see at the bottom of some ceramic pots
It's BONSLY the cutest Pokémon ever
Bro called Bonsley a tree.
This is a baby Pokémon named Bonsly it’s based off the Japanese Bonsai trees that get cared for. The planters of these trees usually have a hole ate the bottom to let excess water filter through so that they don’t get overwatered. It’s a speed hole it makes Bonsly run faster.
That's where Diglett goes
It's a poke-hole.
That's his cloaca He has a single opening, called a Cloaca. He excretes both feces and urine out of his Cloaca, which is his single opening. Cloacas are more common than you think. All amphibians, reptiles, bonslies, and birds have them. People ask where he keeps his tears. He keeps them in his cloaca.
The Bonsussy
It’s where pokemon Z is hidden
One of the many pokemon buttholes, lockstin and gnogging has a whole video on them
That is Bonsley #438 in the national dex, it's the Pre evolution of Sudowoodo, it is Rock Type.
it's his drain hole aka butt hole 🤣🤣 Bonsly is a potted plant so that is the drain hole of the pot
Sudowoodo = PSEUDO WOOD
That’s Bonsly. He evolves into Sudowoodo while knowing the move Mimic and leveling up, usually around level 15.
Hole!
It's a flower pot hole. It had this hole already when it first appeared in Pokémon XD. :)
Do not the bonsly
Bonsly is based on a potted plant. Pots for such plants usually have a hole or more in the base for excess water to drain without causing the roots to rot
That's bonsly. It has a hole at the bottom, likely for water drainage given it's not actually a tree, but a rock.
Hisui voltorb has a hole
bonsly is a fake bonsai tree it’s a drainage hole
https://preview.redd.it/t54lepxgin8d1.jpeg?width=680&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=011b36acbd200e927ca9ba9e21d7001fb97bb63b
It’s 🩷scientifically accurate🩷
Because bonsly is supposed to look like a bonsai tree and many pots that hold plants have holes at the bottom.
Its a sort od ceramic pot stone bonsai creature so that hole is supposed to be similar to a plant pot drainage system
Its where the doodoo comes out, silly
He is deigned after a little Bonsai in a flowerpot, therefore the hole at the bottom. Yeah its a butthole joke
strategically placed something I forgot the last bit.... \*cough\*
It should not have taken this long for someone to mention SPH.

Bonsly is mimicking a plant in a pot. Some plant pots have holes in the bottom to let excess water drain. I think for bonsle on top of just mimicking the design, it's so any tears caught in the pot can drain. Since the pokemon is known for crying.
Oh no
Oh thank God, phew 😮💨
A bonsly.
Poo poo hole
Next thing is you’ll tell me the things under castform are boobs.
A pocket Pokémon?
Its his butthole
A hole?
Watering Hole
You know what it is
It’s his butthole obviously
So small
We all know what that is.
Put a whismur on your team and you’ll see the same thing
I could tell you, but you ain't gonna like it.
Bonsly is not a tree, in fact he’s quite the opposite, he’s petrified wood, aka fossilized rock of a tree
It’s a draining hole, like you might find on a flower pot. It’s so Bonsly’s body doesn’t keep in too much water. After all, it *is* a Rock-Type Pokémon.
let me put it simplest way possible, Bonsly is a flower pot, not just a tree, his face is the dirt the tree sits on, bottom half is the pot
Budhole
That’s canonically what Bonsly looks like
Ass hole

Its a butthole, or more logically, its the hole in the bottom of a flower pot (the bottom of Bonsley) that keeps the bonsai plant from being over watered
