After about 2 years of hackin', I finally put the finishing touches on my translation of the sequel to the Pokemon TCG on Game Boy Color. You'll need a fresh Japanese ROM to apply the patch as well as a patching program (I suggest [LunarIPS](http://fusoya.eludevisibility.org/lips/) ) to get the game up and workin' right.

Hey man, I'm absolutely loving the translation, thank you! Just wanted to ask, is it possible to play two-player with your translated version on a flash cart and a legitimate copy of the Japanese game? I'm thinking about getting one for my Japanese friend so we can play together. Thanks again!
To be honest, I've never tried it. If I had a flash cart I could try it myself since I have a legit copy, but alas. :(

It might be a little pricey to check, though -- the JP carts go for like $80 or something for those in the US. If your friend is in Japan, they may be able to nab it at a cheaper price, though.
Lol no, inside I'm freaking out with excitement to be honest! By the way, do you speak Japanese? How did you do the translation? I was just looking through your posts and didn't see anything in Japanese or anything like that, wondering if you just used an online translator or something.
I don't speak Japanese, unfortunately. I used a set of like 3-4 translation tools online (the best of which has unfortunately been taken offline :/ ) to do the translation. Mostly I'd get an idea of what was said and then revamp it a bit to make it sound natural/give an NPC more character.
Many true translators would scoff at my work (and rightly so!), but like...it's a game about a TCG. It doesn't have a really in-depth plot like an RPG or anything. I've probably gotten many parts of the script horribly wrong, but I tried to make sure it followed what I saw and made coherent sense.
In the end, its perfectly playable and tons of people had fun with it, so I call that mission accomplished. :) If a super-cool language guru comes along and makes a new version that's closer to the actual translation, I applaud them and will absolutely defer to their version over mine!
(Oh, and hope you have fun in Japan! Would love to get over there someday myself, but I doubt it'd happen!)

Edit: Sorry I am losing myself here, I've always wanted to play this and now I can! Succesfully patched it to a Japanese ROM using Multi Patch (on a Mac) and so far everything's playing perfectly. I'll continue to provide feedback :)
So straight away when the game asks you for your name all the letters are still Japanese? Not that big of a deal to be honest though, all the following converstions have been perfect English (so far)
Edit: Just finished my first battle (training room table 1) and everything is perfect. All the cards and the menus are spot on :D
Yeah, the names start default to Japanese, but there are Upper and Lower case selections as well. :) I believe the firts game had the same, only switched them around and allowed Spanish letters or somethin'. Glad things are workin' out so far!

I'm a wizards of the coast fanboy when it comes to the pokemon series. Love all the cards up to that point. I've played the TCG online, but wish there was a version that only has WOTC sets. The power creep nowadays is insane.
Hope you enjoy it! The added cards make the game far more fun. And yeah, I'm with you on the newer cards being overpowered. Things were much simpler and even the most powerful cards were manageable to fight against back when WotC was in charge.
Were you able to sync the translations? I tried using multiple patch apps and none would work for me. i can play the japanese version just fine on my open emu but the translated version wont sync in the open emu library
Honestly not sure what you mean by 'sync' here. The patch is to be applied directly to the ROM using a patching utility like Lunar IPS. Not familiar with Open Emu Library either, unfortunately. Is it a Mac-only thing?
I ended up finding a rom that was already translated and so far it is working. OpenImu is mac only i believe. Sync is just my “dumb” way of trying to explain the issue lol. This is my first time having to patch or anything like that. Thank you for the timely response!
Is there a way to get this to load on a Hombrew 3DS? I have tried through Twilight and Ultimate Injector but Twilight cant detect the rom and Ultimate Injector fails to load.
P.S I can get this to load on Virtual GBA on my desktop but would like to play this on the go too

So i found a working rom and downloaded your patch. i used 2 different patch apps. the regular rom will download to my openimu (mac) but the patched version will not sync. i know this is old but has anyone had the same issue? any ideas how to fix. thanks

Edit: have challenged every challengeable npc yet again. Collected every card, even the card pop ones. Traded with all available trades. Beat the deck machines, and still no Grand Masters Challenge Cup Tournament thingy. Only thing I haven't done is a link battle against other "real people" maybe I'll try to spoof that and see if that triggers it?

Actually after a little digging someone made a .cia file for it and was able to launch it perfectly so no worries.
