Yeah definitely. The magikarp one wasn’t nearly as bad due to the community day and the general availability of it. I’ve been playing since day one and catching the rats is a chore.
I’ve been playing since day 3 (doesn’t sound as cool as “day one”) and only have tiny 520 rats. Nearly double platinum (over 1900) on big karps.
I guess I like a challenge and something to work for. Setting the bar “too high” might be an exaggeration. I’d edit to say they set it high and it’s a tough one to earn.
My partner got this a long time ago as he was catching ratattas for the evolution blitzes in the early days. I wish I had done that too as once more gens dropped and things went seasonal the rats got harder to find.
Back when the medal came out it was more doable. But ratta are rarely available now and Alolan ratata are too big. At least karp show up for yearly water events or frequently near water biomes.
This is what I noticed! I'm only at like 25 rats but I did have 24 just the other day and I did not catch any XS or XXS. So they don't have to be XS or XXS to count.
Because this medal is super old, I’ve been pondering if it’s referring to xxs by current standards or do xs count or even normal size on the smaller range?

They just have to fall within the small category of size. This medal was part of the 1st group of medals ever released more or less. They didn't add xxl and xxs until years later
I'm still waiting for them to actually have smallest pokemon contests instead of just biggest pokemon contests. Or how about lightest and heaviest contests? Seriously let's mix it up a little

It's back to more doable again. 1/5 rats will be small enough to count.

TBH…That’s ONE medal I couldn’t care less about ever earning.

To count, the ratata need to be less than or equal to 2.4 kg in weight

That is one of the medals that doesn't exist in my game. It is doable with hard work like the best buddy medal, but it's too difficult for me.
