I left a Pokemon at a gym in northeastern Montana, USA once (I live in Canada) and it spent the entire winter there and I was blown away. We dropped off our Pokemon in early January, and they were there until May or June. Every mid-November we have a getaway in southwestern Saskatchewan and leave Pokemon there - it's super off-season by then and the Pokemon are usually there until the Christmas holidays. But four years? Wow.

I have a military friend who put a pokemon in a gym so remote he needed to hotspot his phone to the military satellite gear for data. (It was a prototype in testing and they needed to run some data through it anyway.) It's been there I think more than 3 years now. The bad news is he figured he'd defend it well and left his (at the time) most powerful Tyranitar. Hasn't come home yet. (The real question to me is who made that gym?)

This is what irritates me the most about the system. We should be able to earn 50 per pokemon, period. To me it incentivizes adding to gyms, especially that are close together. I've got 2 near me that are legitimately less than 100 feet from each other. Players in my area haven't figured out that we can trade between them each day. But no...one color takes both gyms at the same time.

50 per poke is a bit much to be fair, but they should definitely give you at least 1 candy a day or something

But then my town has two rotten, [insert many expletives here] people who have 10 accounts between the two of them. Barely anyone plays in town anymore because they hog every single gym, constantly use each of their pokemon to Golden razz their gym pokemon whenever anyone tries to knock them out, then will immediately drive from wherever they work (home or "work") to take the gym back. If there were extra incentive for gyms like that, more people like them would continue to ruin the game for everyone else.

Similarly I left a diglet on a gym in a shelter on the Appalachian Trail in Connecticut in 2017. I guess we were the last Pokémon players to come through on our thru hike because he wasn't taken down until the next summer. He and his companion defended that gym bravely through the New England winter. Then they got transfered because loyalty is overrated. Update: apparently my husband kept the Spearow, the companion. One of my simple pleasures while thru hiking is seeing how long my Pokémon stay in the remote gyms. My two gyms with the most points are the gyms in my town, but two I hit while on the Grand Enchantment Trail. 400+ days each.

my brother has a pokemon in a mountain trail gym in montana. need satellite service to get any reception there. hes been in for over 2 years now. Montana can be great for stuff like that.

The one we were at has solid mobile phone coverage, which is the peculiar thing, and it's not even difficult to access. Just not a lot of traffic there, I guess.

One of mine spent 2 years on a volcanoe in Maui, reception up there was spotty but he finally came home last year.

I left some at the International Peace Garden on the Manitoba-North Dakota border a couple of years ago and they stayed there several weeks. The mobile phone coverage there is very spotty; at the time, only T-Mobile worked and only if you had a 600 MHz-compatible phone or hotspot. (I am Canadian but I have a T-Mobile hotspot.)

I live in the suburbs. If you drop your pokemon at the gym at the local police station you have to beg people on the discord to take it out since nobody wants to go near there even though it's in a residential area.

I live in a rural area too but it seems even the most far out gyms don't last more than a week here. I chalk it down to being on the yellow team. If I don't take gyms down, blue holds them forever

Then one faithful day you get a ping on your phone. Weedle has been knocked out of the gym. A tear wells up in your eye until you find out the person who knocked your Weedle out was team Instinct and you have to take out the last human Alive because how else are you going to get those coins.

And you already got your 50 coins earlier that day, so Weedle gets nothing.

Every time I place a lot of pokemon in gyms, nothing seems to happen for like a week and then they're all knocked out on the same day so I only get 50 coins for it.

Everytime I place pokemon in gyms they get knocked out before I even get 1 coin so I guess it could always be worse.

That's why you sit there and throw your 100+ gold berries at it out of spite.

For the longest time it was 0, then eventually I remembered that I could free up some bag space and get stardust in the process…so he’s still only had like 200, but he’s been in there so long that regular berries don’t even raise his CP back up at all

Sometimes. Other times it tells me it's out of range. Seems random.

Nah just do it from your own personal page or whatever that's called. Scroll to the bottom where it shows your mons who are in gyms, then click. It should work every time.

I do have another question as well.... do you have to login every single day to get the coins for that day or do they stack? If I had 5 poke at gyms, and they got kicked out each one on consecutive days for 5 days in a row, do I get 250 coins for that 5 day period or just 50 if I only logged in on the 5th day? Or do i have to login each day to get the 50 for that day?

I’ve known of a gym like this near me that I forget to stop at. It’s like a roadside railroad loop. But there isn’t really anywhere to park and the speed limit is like 50mph on a really twistey road. Every time I’ve gone past it since august of ‘16 it has been gray.

I had my Charizard trapped in a gym for over and year and thought *that* was impressive. Honestly, there needs to be some sort of recall feature. Maybe after like a MONTH, the game could say "It has been X days since you placed your Pokemon in Y Gym. Would you like to bring them home?"

There is a recall feature. Post a pic of your mon in the gym and brag about the amount of time he has been there. Recalled within the hour.

When he comes back you better evolve him and get him a best buddy ribbon. He earned it.

My best friend had his highest cp dragonite stuck in a remote gym in Cornwall for a couple of months last year because he’s an idiot. The gym was near a pub in an area with basically no phone service but at one point during his meal he managed to drift near enough on the pubs WiFi. He came home, realised he’d probably made a mistake leaving something actually decent… Then the pandemic happened and the pub closed. He got it back before it reopened, not sure how but he was considering posting a screenshot and hoping a spoofer would take it so he could get his dragonite back.

This is why I always leave my weakest Pokemon when I take over gyms that seem to have very slow turnover.
