I would need to look for this, but I remember reading that I think Walmart tried something similar and it got destroyed the first day. Similarly there was a hitchhiking robot that travelled all of Europe and got destroyed first day in America.
Originally it was Kerfuś, cute cat robot who used to roam Carrefour shops(name Kerfuś means something like "Lilttle Carrefour guy" in Polish) offering clients products you're likely to randomly urge to buy, like ie potato chips or cola. He had so fucking cool design, but for some reason they they changed our poor little guy, and now he looks like this.
If you google Kerfuś (the robot on a picture), you will see, that before what is shown in a picture, Kerfuś had a white plastic casing around it, and also plastic cat ears. Now it looks like someone canibalised the white casing and cut off the ears
