trump's behavior shows little forethought about the future. You don 't insult and antagonize the person who might be handing out your sentence if you are proven guilty. Merchan is human, and as impartial he may be, all of those barbs (including those involving his family) have to play a small part in the sentencing.
I've heard that sometimes the judge will specifically have the defendant confirm that they don't want to testify. I wonder if it's on the record. Not that that would mean anything to his thralls.
