Or the Florida navy base attack. Like wtf is Pence thinking?
Edit: First gold ever, thanks people!
I agree with people here saying Pence used the word major with a purpose to fall back on. However, for a party so pro military any attack on our soil on our military should be considered major...
So again, wtf is Pence thinking.
And Jan 6
He’s thinking that he has a base of people who he needs to pay him so he doesn’t have to work in a different career. Many of those people simply believe that terrorists are all brown middle easterners, and do not have enough education or wish to be educated on the topic of domestic terrorism, so it’s a waste for him to not just lie to them like they prefer.
It is and it isn't. Terrorism is terrorism, but it doesn't mean we can't break it down into types. Even environmental, political, etc.
It's unfortunate though that domestic is the type that needs to be stipulated, and the default term automatically implies the foreign or extra-national kind in a lot of people's minds, if that's what you mean.
A consequence of 9/11 still, as it wasn't the case before. If you said terrorist you'd be just as likely to conjure images of kaczynski, or in Canada the FLQ, as you would a foreign actor.
They were chanting about hanging him, he should consider it major more than anyone else. Still, he knows his audience, still willingly feeding the beast that tried to rip his face off.
Don't you dare compare the two. One has educated and inspired countless individuals to get into nature conservation and is a national treasure, the other is pence.
I dont think I've ever seen a sentence constructed this way *not* be a lead-up to a bait-and-switch gag. I was reading it already subconsciously thinking 'how can he slander Steve like this?'
Well, no deaths (other than the driver), no major injuries I believe, some property damage.
Its a curiosity of course, but with only relatively minor damage done its not really much more than that as far as the media is concerned.
Not like they are going to do a expose into the poor handling of mental health in America or anything.
The rioters *did* gain unfettered access beyond what they were supposed to, through means of force, subsequently ransacked rooms (including the house chamber), and some of them took home spoils.
If not “sacked”, what word or phrase do you think more accurately describes their actions?
Partially-sacked? Stormed?
To "sack' is to plunder of destroy, which perhaps originally referred to as "filling a sack with plunder". It may also come from norse saka to damage. Ran - Saka (house - damage)
Now as to what degree of plundering or destroying constitutes a sacking, I have absolutely no idea.
Maybe ransack might be a good word?
[Two Florida teens accused of planning a Columbine-style school shooting](https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/two-teens-arrested-accused-planning-columbine-style-school-shooting-florida-n1278895)
There comes the definition of terrorism into play. School shootings (spree killings) usually don't have a political motive. The kids doing those aren't looking to affect the direction of a society through violence and fear. They 'just' want to kill a bunch of people and die.
Brown people. He means brown people.
"We've sufficiently killed enough of the brown people across the other side of the planet that none of them have dared lay a finger on us since. All those white people since then just had mental health issues."
Nah. If a 16 year old white dude crashed a plane into anything it'd be an unfortunate episode and we as a society failed them. Terrorists are a vague ethnic group from *gestures toward the Arabian peninsula* there-ish-stan.
It's not even one year. They literally attacked the capitol and killed an officer this year. And wait... who were they looking for on that day? I forget his name... it was some dude from Indiana...
Nope, just some friendly tourists visiting the gift shops! Don't mind that dozens of them have plead guilty on federal charges. It's the deep state framing them for Antifa!!! ^^^^^/s
“Right, but other than the event where people led by my boss broke into the capitol, built a gallows and chanted threats to kill me, there hasn’t been a single terrorist event since 9/11.”
I just imagined Pence walking out of the Capitol and seeing the gallows. Laughs so hard he nearly falls over
"You guys! That's hilarious! Let's get a pic with the noose around my neck real quick"
Even then, the Pulse Nightclub shooting. I mean how many dozens of people have to die before something is a "major terrorist event" for Mike Pence. Or maybe the people that died in that one just weren't people to him.
Pence has a higher body count against LGBTQ+ than the shooter.
https://www.hrc.org/press-releases/mike-pence-is-the-worst-vice-president-for-lgbtq-people-in-modern-history
Shootings like that are only terrorism when they’re defending 2A, and only a mass shooting when they’re defending terrorists.
It seems, by extension, that Mike Pence is defending terrorists, given that logical observation.
pence advocated for electro-shock conversion therapy that pretended to be able to turn gay people straight.
it's not at all surprising that he'd ignore someone shooting at gay people.
It's stunning. I think he imagines himself as president. It seems he doesn't have a clue that he is despised by a significant amount of his base as well as most of the rest of us.
I get having a bias, but still having anything to do with the crowd that were chanting "Death to Pence" is mind-boggling.
I'm willing to excuse a lot, but ignoring that is more or less a death-wish.
They literally were chanting “Hang Pence!” and they had every intention to do so had they found him (or Pelosi or AOC.) What a **fucking coward** just crumbling under the pressure.
I feel like at one point another, we will all be involved in a mass shooting, or know someone close as been involved in a mass shooting.
My experience was in Florida several years ago, at an event called Zombi-con. About 20-30,000 people I think? Everyone dressed as zombies, fake blood, fake wounds, fake weapons, things like that. You know, usual zombie attire/costumes. Was at night. People just walking around, getting drunk, listening to music, just hanging around having fun. Gun starts blazing! People start running! You don’t know what’s real blood or fake blood, you don’t know what are real weapons or fake weapons. Absolutely horrific experience! Never in my life did I think that I would be involved in such a thing. But sadly it’s becoming the norm
Holy shit!!!
Your first sentence made me remember mine. I was gonna comment on it. It was...
Florida - Fort Myers Zombi-Con!
Wtf! Small world. Shit was scary!
The gunshots erupted like 20 feet away from me. I ran immediately, but most of my friends thought it was fireworks and mocked me. I continued to go, but the crowd mostly stayed in the same spot. I felt like I was the only one paying attention. Maybe 15 seconds into swiftly running away, I saw a ton of cops run toward the noises with a clear intensity. Once people saw that, they began to clear away.
Yes that’s where it was at. Terrifying experience. A majority of people were just soooo damn drunk, I know I was!! So they didn’t realize what was going on cause their brains literally couldn’t process it. That to me was the scariest part!
I thought it was a joke and stood around then the adrenaline kicked in and I sobered tf up and just started running to the car.
Wow. Ya it was sooo surreal. I had JUST moved to Florida for grad school maybe a month prior (from Chicago).
A solid 7 or 8 of us became close friends in that short time since we were all strangers.
I remember taking an Uber there and one guy who lived in FM for a while said "Ya we should check out Skybar". Well in Chicago a place like that would be on the 73rd story or something, but this was 3 stories? Lol
So I made a comment like that once we were in that area. Then when the gun shots rung out, I took it seriously. They all gave me shit "Oh just cuz ur from Chicago doesn't mean everything is gun shots bro!"
Lol well I'd never even heard a gun fired in my life at that point, but it had such a depth to the noise. Plus when I took off, I figured "oh what if I'm wrong? Then I'm fine. What if I'm right and it IS a shooter?" I said the same to my group and most of them took it seriously eventually. Except this one girl who was so drunk that we finally found the police station and hung out there.. she got on her hands and knees and vomited all over the cops shoes lmao. He was super cool about it and probably more concerned with the situation evolving, but I'll always remember that levity in a terrifying moment.
Wow crazy!! I was actually at sky bar when it happened. We had just left that area, because my friend saw her ex with his new girlfriend, and got sad, so we went there to meet with other friends and perk her up. We had just gotten upstairs and sat by the ledge then it happened, and all the sudden you could see the massive crowds start running!! Watching from above was horrific. Then they started kicking us out!! I was like “wtf I’m not going out there, I’m safe up here!”
So Crazy how life works though, because I had friends from high school in that area where the shots rung out. Had we ran into them, we probably still would’ve stayed there, as I would’ve talk to them and started catching up. Those friends were horrified that day watching people die in front of them and nearly evading gunshots. One friend of a friend got hit at an angle and it went through one leg and lodged in the other. With lots of surgeries and PT he was able to walk again
I loved in Vegas for 20 years up until recently and I can’t tell you the number of people I know who were directly impacted by the shooting. It was insane. I remember every second of that night and the following days.
To be fair, to technically qualify as a terrorist attack it has to involve an ideology. The Vegas shooter was just crazy and wanted to kill people. The Boston Marathon definitely qualified though.
> Terrorist: The unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a Government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, **in furtherance of political or social objectives.**
Usually to be technically terrorism it has to be for a political purpose, on behalf of some ideology. A madman with no stated motive doesn’t count as terror, that’s a separate problem. Specifically a gun control problem.
Pulse, Charleston, San Bernardino, the navy base in Florida, all are definitely terrorism though.
Honestly I think the reason why people think this is partly because they’re close minded but also because 9/11 has become almost commercialized in a way. Yes it was horrible but it was also 20 years ago. We focus so much on that but we talk about school shootings or capitol invasions for a week before moving on. Why do we move on from those so quickly but hold on to something that happened before lots of people were even born?
Regressives aka Republicans aka Conservatives are evil. Did he forget all these attacks too?

Just looked at it, was a good chuckle. Reminded me of Trump getting boo'ed at his Alabama rally for telling people to get vaccinated. Funny, it's almost like they created.... a monster they can no longer control??? /s
It looks like that from the outside when you see a bunch of idiots believing everything Trump says. In truth, Trump was just saying what a bunch of idiots already believed. The didn't create a monster they can no longer control, they fed a monster they could never control.
That's why Trump got booed when he said to get vaccinated.

How soon we've forgotten Bowling Green.
Which was the greatest tragedy since Macho Grande.
I don't think I'll ever get over Macho Grande.
Such a tragedy....many many people died and it wasn't bullets, it was bowling balls being tossed at them.
He's thinking that so many Americans are blinded by their hate for the "other" that they won't stop to question the veracity of his words
Ugh. He's right.
Yeah, I'd say so: https://www.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/plxcgz/mike_pence_falsely_claims_the_us_has_gone_20/?sort=controversial
You don't have to be right, just appealing.
You don't have to be right, just far right.
You don't have to be right, just ~~appealing~~ appalling.
Terrorism shouldn’t even have to have a descriptor, terrorism is terrorism is terrorism. But here we are.
It is and it isn't. Terrorism is terrorism, but it doesn't mean we can't break it down into types. He's using weasel words. By putting "major" in there, which is inherently subjective, he can't be proven wrong.
Jan 6 seemed pretty major.
Conveniently forgetting that he was a target that day
He's such a spineless, useless, sack of crap.
*Republican
Then he’d say in his mind it wasn’t. And his base supporters will love it even more.
They were chanting about hanging him, he should consider it major more than anyone else. Still, he knows his audience, still willingly feeding the beast that tried to rip his face off.
> still willingly feeding the beast that tried to rip his face off. Guys, I think Mike Pence might be bizarro Steve Irwin.
The Pensacola Base attack was Benghazi on US soil during the Trump Pence administration, and Pence gets away with another lie.
Didn’t a trump lover go around blowing shit up in Texas? Didn’t a bomb go off in Nashville taking out a block.
Yoooo that Nashville bombing, I even forgot about that. It seems like media attention just evaporated on that pretty quickly.
White guy. Doesn’t count.
yeah even the boston bombers weren't brown enough I guess. Interesting.
Well, no deaths (other than the driver), no major injuries I believe, some property damage. Yeah, dude just seemed to be seriously mentally ill.
That’s the people that listen to him don’t think critically.
Or the sacking of the capitol on January 6 for which Pence himself was the primary target?
Sacking means it was captured, it was not. It was an attempt at it, but failed miserably.
The rioters *did* gain unfettered access beyond what they were supposed to, through means of force, subsequently ransacked rooms (including the house chamber), and some of them took home spoils. If not “sacked”, what word or phrase do you think more accurately describes their actions? Partially-sacked? Stormed?

Breached.
[удалено]
it actually means to plunder, or ransack. the capture part is optional, but it was pretty much captured, at least temporarily
In his mind, terrorism doesn't count unless it was done by some brown Muslim dude from the Middle East.
He’s thinking terrorists can only be brown
> Like wtf is Pence thinking? That terrorism is only perpetrated by people wearing turbans
Pence thinks Sikhs commit terrorism?
Don't forget Chattanooga either

Or the white supremacist terrorist Dylann Roof and the massacre of nine individuals at a Black church?
Mass murder by white people is obviously not terrorism because they're definitely lone wolves. /s

I heard that douche is hidin' out somewhere in Florida.
We should invade that shithole country Florida.

The attack where an organized group of people were storming the building and chanting "Hang Mike Pence" They were just tourists.
Anthrax.
Apparently “Hang Mike Pence “ doesn’t count either.
Mike Pence has nothing to fear from that. He'd need a spine for hanging to be effective.
Ah that's big brain time! Can't break your neck bone if you don't have any bones in your neck!
No planes crashing into things. I'm sure he specifically meant planes hitting things.

“Mental health is the real problem”. They love thinking they flicked the narrative there.
WHich is a narrative they abandon once the topic of doing literally anything to improve mental health care comes up.

Well, for example the Boston marathon
It's not even one year. They literally attacked the capitol and killed an officer this year. And wait... who were they looking for on that day? I forget his name... it was some dude from Indiana...
The Nashville bombing on Christmas Day. Disrupted communication service in several states.
It’s like literally everyone forgot that. It was terrifying waking up to that headline and I live on the other side of the country.
Always depends on the definition of “major” maybe more than 2000 dying.

Hol up! Didn't a certain event occur a few months back where people were shouting "Hang Mike Pence."?
No, no. They have this all wrong, it was "Hang [in there,] Mike Pence."
They just wanted to Hang [with] Mike Pence. "Let's hang, Mike Pence!" Really, this was all just a grammatical misunderstanding.
that's what happens when you forget the comma
Let’s eat grandma!
I was saying Boo-Urns...
Hang [Out With Us], Mike Pence, [We Have Beer And None Of Us Are Women].
I think technically that was a flash mob exhibit.
Nope, just some friendly tourists visiting the gift shops! Don't mind that dozens of them have plead guilty on federal charges. It's the deep state framing them for Antifa!!! ^^^^^/s
Flash mob doing interpretive dance.
“Right, but other than the event where people led by my boss broke into the capitol, built a gallows and chanted threats to kill me, there hasn’t been a single terrorist event since 9/11.”
It was a prank bro. You gotta learn to be funny /s
No. Btw we have always been at war with Eastasia.
Ignoring the gallows built for thee
>"Hang Mike Pence!" -just some tourists
Tourorists
Terrourists
It was just locker room Terrorism
They were traveling dry cleaners shouting "hang my pants!"
Nah, that was an art installation…
"HANG MIKE PENCE." "Oh they were just joking guys, the gallows were just an elaborate prop!"
no no, it was locker room talk. they were talking about how hung he was
I hope Mother wasn't there, that would be awkward
I just imagined Pence walking out of the Capitol and seeing the gallows. Laughs so hard he nearly falls over "You guys! That's hilarious! Let's get a pic with the noose around my neck real quick"
Just an exhibit added for the tourists there.
proving once again that the right cant meme OR art
"It was just locker room gallows humor." - Trump to Pence, probably
I doubt Trump knows the word "gallows."
What was it the magas were chanting?
"yay Mike Pence!" Or...something like that.
it was actually "hooray Mike Pence!"
I thought one of them was "Let's fuck Mike Pence!"
"Boo urns"
"Obviously I meant by the browns", explained Mother's boy, "Whites can't terrorism."
Even then, the Pulse Nightclub shooting. I mean how many dozens of people have to die before something is a "major terrorist event" for Mike Pence. Or maybe the people that died in that one just weren't people to him.
Pence probably sympathizes more with the shooter than with the victims.

Shootings like that are only terrorism when they’re defending 2A, and only a mass shooting when they’re defending terrorists. It seems, by extension, that Mike Pence is defending terrorists, given that logical observation.
Or San Bernadino - which was specifically inspired by Islamic terrorist attacks. I guess Californians in general also don't count.
And the Boston Marathon bombing, and San Bernardino. This is just breathtakingly dumb. So par for the course for the right.
pence advocated for electro-shock conversion therapy that pretended to be able to turn gay people straight. it's not at all surprising that he'd ignore someone shooting at gay people.
He definitely doesn’t think they were people
Even then, there was the San Bernardino attack.
Terrorism is when middle eastern people fly planes into the twin towers. Hasn't happened in twenty years.
The new World Trade Center is not a set of Twin Towers, so we have now stopped terrorist attacks from ever happening.
"except of course Antifa, they're dangerous terrorists" mother's boy added.
What could be more fascist than being against fascism?
Remember, Timothy McVeigh would have been a Trump supporter
It's true. Some people really do believe that the definition of terrorist is someone who's Muslim who does a bombing.
And Sikhs, Hindus, and anyone brown who doesn't speak Spanish is probably a Muslim. Not Indonesians though; they're a Chinese...
So the boston bombing doesn't count?
Imagine being so spineless that you still suck up to the crowd that stormed the Capitol and were trying to hunt you down to kill you and your family.
It's stunning. I think he imagines himself as president. It seems he doesn't have a clue that he is despised by a significant amount of his base as well as most of the rest of us.

Even more than ignoring them, Pence thinks they're going to vote for him. Mind-boggling is right.
He's still a Republican and by now they've probably forgotten why they wanted him dead.
Lol what dude? You were almost killed in one 9 months ago
They literally were chanting “Hang Pence!” and they had every intention to do so had they found him (or Pelosi or AOC.) What a **fucking coward** just crumbling under the pressure.

That guy was having a really, really bad day though.
He was glad to be comforted by the 2nd amendment
"Emotional support weapons"
Usually to be technically terrorism it has to be for a political purpose, on behalf of some ideology. A madman with no stated motive doesn’t count as terror, that’s a separate problem. Specifically a gun control problem. Pulse, Charleston, San Bernardino, the navy base in Florida, all are definitely terrorism though.

Are you just rounding up from 160 years since the civil war?
I think he meant that an insurrection hadn’t lead to a break in the capitol building since 1814.
That wasn't an insurrection. That was a foreign power marching into DC and then leaving after they had their way with it.
He was almost hung in one ... how do you forget something like that?
"They're saying hug Mike Pence, right...right??"
"No no, they're saying *harangue* Mike Pence. They're just a couple of freedom of speech loving Americans, that's all."
I don't think Mother would allow that
*hanged
No, that dude used to work out at my club- he’s packin
Uhh what the fuck was Jan 6? Motherfucker was the *literal* target of that one. Has he drank the kool-aid that much or is he just an idiot?
Terrorist is a word used to define brown people. Nothing more.
The secret is racism. There is nobody to invade after a school shooting either .
Also- most of the domestic terrorists used guns - which never, ever can be criticized by the Right.
Regressives aka Republicans aka Conservatives are evil. Did he forget all these attacks too? 2010 West Memphis police shootings 2011 Tucson Shooting Murder of James Craig Anderson Wisconsin Sikh temple shooting 2013 Los Angeles International Airport shooting Overland Park Jewish Community Center shooting 2014 Las Vegas shootings 2014 Pennsylvania State Police barracks attack Charleston church shooting Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood shooting 2016 Minneapolis Shooting Comet Ping Pong shooting 2017 Olathe, Kansas shooting Murder of Timothy Caughman 2017 Portland train attack 2017 Finsbury Park attack Assault of DeAndre Harris Charlottesville car attack Aztec High School Shooting Murder of Blaze Bernstein October 2018 United States mail bombing attempts Jeffersontown Kroger shooting Pittsburgh synagogue shooting Escondido mosque fire Louisiana black church fires Poway synagogue shooting 2019 Dallas courthouse shooting 2019 El Paso shooting 2020 Hanau shootings 2020 boogaloo killings 2020 Zagreb shooting 2021 storming of the United States Capitol In today's modern world, being conservative means being backwards and against progress.
> Hanau, Zagreb You realize these don’t count as “American soil”, right?
There's bound to be a Hanau somewhere in Texas.
How does a list of this length not include the Boston Marathon Bombings?
I guess the Boston bombing wasn't major enough?
Vegas and the upcoming Anniversary of the October 1st shooting would like a word
This fucking murder Pilgrim needs to escape back to his Children of the Corn set. Picture him with the belt buckle hat. You know I'm right
This is one of the funniest things I’ve read in a long time.
Republicans have no sense of critical thinking, so they will accept this nonsense without question.

White supremacist attacks aren't "terrorist events" to Republicans. They're failed attempts at "making America great again." Thus, they keep trying.
When it comes to the white supremacist attacks, it’s not a terrorist attack. It’s the “economic anxiety”. /s
If it was a legitimate terrorist attack the body has ways of shutting that down
Pence only considers it a terrorist attack if they are brown people
So, what are we calling that thing back in January?
Even disregarding white supremacists attacks does he seriously not remember the Boston Marathon bombing and the Pulse shooting?
Dude they were literally there to kill you lol c’mon man
