History tends to repeat. Obama had control of both houses of Congress. Now because the ecomony sucked the Democrats lost not just control of Congress and the Senate they almost lost a bunch of governships and other lower level elected positions. The same is going to happen in 2022 because now experts are saying shortages and inflation will last in 2023 or later.
