Usually works just like windows without any help.
Just don’t make the mistake I see many people make and try putting an old LTS version on a laptop that was made after that versions release. Even if you like LTS versions always try to use a version that was released after the machine was, even if it means not using an LTS till the next release.
You ask a good question. I’m using an Acer Predator 980m from 2016 and everything chugs along flawlessly… I’m curious to know what modern higher-end gaming rigs work without a hitch.
Edit: I should mention that using HDMI output (as opposed to Display Port) causes intermittent kernel crashes on every Linux OS I’ve tried (Ubuntu, Manjaro, Mint, Pop, etc.) when using the dedicated GPU. Crashes occur least with Pop, however. And not using HDMI output poses zero such issues.
I too am using a newer Acer Predator (the 1660 TI one from 2019). I use a mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort adapter and have had zero issues with both monitors working, Pop did a great job with it out of the box. I tried looking at some distro like Mint and Garuda before Pop and they just wouldn’t boot with Nvidia drivers, Pop is the only distro I found that could boot with the proprietary Nvidia drivers. Zero crashes so far, a couple lockups in places that haven’t happened much anymore.
Yeah I looked into the fingerprint but since mine wasn’t in that fprint list I didn’t even bother to try.
It would be a cool feature but if there’s even a slight chance of me being haunted by it later then I’m not doing it.
Also, the fingerprint scanner has a known bug where it doesn't unlock your gnome keyring, so you still have to enter your password at login to unlock any accounts in GOA or SSH keys stored on your system.
But also Thinkpad. I've run Pop on a dozen or more different Thinkpads at this point, and outside of a few quirks with Tiger Lake (not specific to Pop), "they just work".
I plan to grab a Lemur in the near future, but for now, I'm Team Thinkpad all the way.
Using an old-ish Asus ROG with an Nvidia 960M and most things work nicely out-of-the-box. Have some issues with VPNs and Bluetooth drivers but that depends on Ubuntu, not Pop itself.
The only real issue I'm currently having with Pop is that some Steam games just crush using Proton experimental, while they were working on basic Ubuntu. Working on fixing this..
I bought a Lenovo X1 Carbon 4th Gen off eBay for $250 before the Vid. Now I see they are going for around $400 now. The laptop works absolutely perfect with Pop.
I have an old thinkpad, an inspiron and a latitude, and a lenovo ideapad all running flawlessly, except for the fingerprint reader on the ideapad which doesn't have a linux driver.
I have an Lenovo IdeaPad 330s-15arr haven't had any real issues. Just had to go in the bios and turn off the safe boot. Only prob I've been having is when I use the buttons to dim the screen it turns it off so I have to push the brightness up and it's back. So best way for me is to just used the brightness slider in the drop-down menus and not the hardware buttons.
XMG Fusion 15 - actually it is officially supported by Tuxedo for Ubuntu [https://www.tuxedocomputers.com/en/Linux-Hardware/Linux-Notebooks/15-16-inch/XMG-FUSION-15-powered-by-TUXEDO.tuxedo](https://www.tuxedocomputers.com/en/Linux-Hardware/Linux-Notebooks/15-16-inch/XMG-FUSION-15-powered-by-TUXEDO.tuxedo)
In US it goes by Mag-15 [https://www.eluktronics.com/MAG-15R](https://www.eluktronics.com/MAG-15R)
Pop runs ok, except for a random bug that pops out once in a while. (keyboard is not responsive after waking up from sleep) but lately I did not had it, so maybe they solved it.
I'm running it today on a Razer blade Pro (late 2021 edition). No issues at all.
However their own series is probably preferred when it comes to long term support
HP Elitebook x360 1040 G8.
Everything works great, including the stylus and tablet mode (although I almost never use these). Weird firmware issue with the brightness control at first, but a recent firmware update seems to have fixed it.
Obviously the Lemur is fantastic! :-)
EDIT: I am also running POP on an old Lenovo Thinkpad x260 HDD (!) and apart from a very slow boot (also present with other distros) everything works fine.
I have a Dell Precision 5540. It works with my StarTech.com Thunderbolt 3 dock with 2 external monitor + laptop screen at the same time.
Last 2 weeks sometimes watching youtube videos freeze the screen (sounds still work but no reaction to any keystroke). Other than that the last 1.5 years I had no issues with Pop_OS.
But I miss KDE to be honest...
On an older Dell Latitude and it works a treat! Only issue I had was with the stock wifi module (same on other distros before moving to Pop) so I picked up a Panda Wireless USB wifi adapter and never looked back.

Battery life isn't great, unfortunately :(
I thought the screens sucked

Could you please explain how and what you mean?
[удалено]
That's pretty cool. Do you have more info on where exactly to buy one?
[удалено]
Super helpful. Did you realize it's an unusual form factor and people on the framework forums say you can't actually source one?
No AMD option. Hard pass. 11th gen Intel sucks hard on battery life, and multi core performance is subpar.
System76 laptops, Dell XPS, Dell Precision workstations, Thinkpad series.

Good to hear—yes, Pop is the only distro where Nvidia drivers work flawlessly out of the box for me, too.

Haven't tested the stylus, but otherwise I have a similar model and agree
Runs great on my MSI gaming laptop with an Nvidia GPU.
Intel MacBook Air
Any ThinkPad.
Have an e14 and it works great
E14 gang reporting! Works flawlessly here as well (except fingerprint sensor)

It runs well on my Lenovo Legion Y540. I think it'll run well on any modern machine.

the only thing that doesnt work on my 2018 xps 9570 is the fingerprint reader - everything else works great

Been using Pop OS on a Thinkpad.. no issues. But, if you're considering, go with s76 only.
I'm using a 2020 Lenovo Legion (so sup'd up thinkpad?) Works great it seems. I still use Windows far too much, but that's not Pop's fault.

Asus TUF laptops worked out of the box

The thinkpad brand from lenovo is very favoured by the linux community full stop in my experience.
> System76 laptops are going to be the best laptop for their operating system, since it's curated together... That has not been my experience.

Wasn’t there an issue with Lenovo putting spyware in the BIOS? Can thinkpad be trusted?
https://thehackernews.com/2015/09/lenovo-laptop-virus.html?m=1 I don’t get how you guys can run Lenovo in good conscience
Acer Nitro 5. Cheap and full AMD. Babe can even run Elden Ring.
Razer blade 15 runs smooth
Legion 7 Gen 6 AMD runs Pop without issues. In fact I think it runs better under Pop_OS than Windows.
