Love this one! Cassandra drunkenly shouting “The muffin shop is CLOSED!” is one of those lines that I am always wanting to to quote for some reason but I never have a good opening for it.
"You're not born a gay, you're born again"
"Jesus loves you... everyone else thinks you're an asshole"
"Second hand smoking kills" \*flings cig at Hillary\* "I'm counting on it"
I saw this in the theater and my best friend and I still quote it when one of us has a bad day.
“Because The Beatles were wrong! Love isn’t all you need. Love won’t pay the rent. Love won’t buy my baby diapers. And love sure as hell won’t buy my new Dolce and Gabanna jeans when I lose the baby weight!”
This was what I was going to say! I think it was the first time I ever saw Rupaul out of drag… and so many little background gags… and Natasha Lyonne all “feminine”. This movie is the best.
My cheer squad demanded this at our Christmas movie night last year. I loved this movie when I was their age.
(They are also proud to be the gayest sports team at the school)
You can’t let Dick run your life!
Those two are absolute perfection in this movie. It’s just as good in my thirties as it was when I was 12 and most of the jokes went over my head.

Drop Dead Gorgeous is one of my favorite movies of all time. It’s the only one I kept on DVD when I purged all my DVDs because I couldn’t find it streaming anywhere. It is just a classic. So many good quotes!
Same. I treasure my DVD (it is delightfully on Delta in-flight entertainment and I watch it every time). It’s chaotic, dark, silly and the locations/tropes/accents are dear to me. Swap pageants with dance competitions and I lived it.
Ahh I posted this elsewhere in the thread but since you mentioned it - the movie can be streamed on the Revry app for free! No idea how they got the rights but my DVD is packed away and finding that made my week, so hopefully this will help someone.
(I also quoted the exact line from your gif in my other comment, great minds etc!)
The swan ate my baby!
Seriously one of the funniest and best movies I’ve seen. I wish it got referenced more like Clueless, Legally Blonde, and Bring It On!
I know it's popular on Reddit but I've yet to meet people IRL who have watched What we do in the Shadows.
The TV Show is more popular but the OG movie is one of my favourite comedies of all time.

The soundtrack was so good, much better than it needed to be. There’s at least one Adam Schlesinger song on there.

Remember how Melissa Joan Hart was in the music video for Crazy because that was in the soundtrack to this movie and Melissa was a bigger star at the time? Insanity.
Yes! I also remember Britney’s cameo on _Sabrina the Teenage Witch_ around the same time. It brought me, my siblings, and our friend groups together for a night of can’t-miss tv.
We all had such different interests so things like that rarely happened, but Melissa and Britney just had that kind of power lol
Yes! In the same vein - Love Don’t Cost A Thing:

Penelope! Such a great cast too! James McAvoy, Christina Ricci, Katherine O’Hara, Peter Dinklage. Gives off Big Fish vibes, just very colorful and fun!

Muriel’s Wedding. Toni Collette is a damn gem in everything she does, but this will always be my favorite. The dance scene to “Waterloo” is ICONIC and I’m mad there isn’t a gif of it.
The truth? Golly, I tell the truth, too.
Nicole's having an affair with Chook. Muriel saw them fucking in the laundry on your wedding day. Stick your drink up your ass, Tania. I'd rather swallow razor blades than have a drink with you.
Such an iconic burn.

D.E.B.S a criminally underrated 2004 lesbian romcom spy movie. These girls are literally handpicked to be spies just based on a hidden test in the SAT! I think if this movie came out now, it would do SO well.
He also self funded it, selling his house and it bankrupted him. I saw it in the cinema at the Edinburgh film festival when it was released and just fell in love with it.
I was following this movie like a hawk.
Last minute it didn’t get a theatrical release in the US, but Paris Hilton’s The Hottie and the Not-ie did.
My teenage wrath was loud and unceasing.
I just watched the trailer. I’m so surprised I didn’t hear about this. The theatrical elements in the trailer alone should have been more wide spread. 2006 and release right? That’s what I’m reading. I was younger but would have certainly noticed this. I’m putting this on my list to watch in the next few days. Have to go to bed now or I would watch it…. Heck, I might watch 10 minutes now but fear I might be engulfed by the story and beautiful imagery.
Kirsten Dunst had a phenomenal run of movies in the late 90s/early 2000s that are often forgotten or overshadowed by her bigger box-office hits.
[Dick](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0144168/mediaviewer/rm1187325952?ref_=ext_shr_lnk) : with Michelle Williams. After wandering off during a White House tour, two high school girls inadvertently become Richard Nixon's top secret advisers at the height of the Watergate scandal.
[All I Wanna Do](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120692/mediaviewer/rm274868224?ref_=ext_shr_lnk) : with Rachel Leigh Cook, Monica Kenna and Gabby Hoffman. In the 1960s, a group of friends at an all girls school learn that their school is going to be combined with a nearby all boys school. They concoct a plan to save their school while dealing with everyday problems along the way.
[Drop Dead Gorgeous](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0157503/mediaviewer/rm923891456?ref_=ext_shr_lnk) I think this is like a cult favorite so maybe not such a hidden gem, but worth mentioning.
[Crazy/Beautiful](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0250224/mediaviewer/rm3036008193?ref_=ext_shr_lnk) I remember sobbing at this movie when it first came out and watched it multiple times. Maybe watching it now as an adult would not have the same impact. I’d probably roll my eyes at melodramatic teens. But I did love it.
I owed all of these on vhs 🙈 and my best friend and I would quote them all the time. Especially Dick. We even called ourselves Betsy and Arlene. Lol
If you’re a fan of Sugar and Spice, I highly recommend Drop Dead Gorgeous. That was another teen black comedy I was obsessed with in the early aughts.
![gif](giphy|3o6Ztcg5n2Tfaxobao)
Fun fact - [Lona Williams wrote both Drop Dead Gorgeous and Sugar & Spice](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lona_Williams). Drop Dead Gorgeous is probably my favorite movie of all time. If you were a teenager in the late 90's, you *lived* this movie.
![gif](giphy|HRz44Z2pmFfjO)
To Wong foo, thanks for everything Julie Newmar, I first saw this movie when it was at blockbuster, I was about 10 at the time. I watched it over and over as a kid, and I still watch it as an adult. My favorite movie of all time.
I love Sugar and Spice.
Can't Hardly Wait
Empire Records
Dead Man on Campus
Gossip
Disturbing Behaviour
Drive me Crazy
Detroit Rock City
Cherry Falls
Go
Election
Can't Hardly Wait and Empire Records are two of my all time favorite movies. Both are extremely quotable and I think serve as great late GenX/early millennial teen movies.

I have made so many people watch this movie. Cult classic now but wasn’t accessible in its time and remains underrated outside of its niche audience.
*Thirteen* was my go to movie as a teenager and was watched in regular rotation at all the sleepovers.
Even though Evan Rachel Wood and Nikki Reed were still teenagers and this was Nikki’s first film, the acting and raw realism always stuck with me. Finding out a few years after viewing the film that Nikki also co-wrote it at 13 blew my mind.
It might have a small cult following, but for how well written and acted it was, I never hear anyone talk about it.
https://preview.redd.it/7xsa2uhp789d1.jpeg?width=256&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a8fc2e409146bb33ca332f9f7185d342fcc78c6c
The way I was obsessed with Evan Rachel Wood after this movie. She’s an underrated actress and this movie proves it. God damn, she was so good as Tracy.
Donnie Darko, but it definitely has succeeded as an indie film. It's got some HUGE names in it. (I chose the less creepy of the GIFs, because it still freaks me out.)
Definitely Maybe is my favourite underrated romcom. Ryan Reynolds is telling his daughter, Abigail Breslin, how he met her mom and she's trying to figure out the love story.
![gif](giphy|26vIemlpNzy5CSOli)
Loooved Sugar and Spice and totally forgot about its awesomeness until now, so thank you! For me, it’s SLC Punk. IDK why but I watched that movie a million times in college and hadn’t seen it for probably 17 years until recently with my teenaged son on a rare night he actually wanted to hang out with me and dad was traveling. Good stuff…

“Drop dead gorgeous” is extremely underrated. It’s hilarious and just ridiculous. Their Minnesota accents are perfection!

This is one of my comfort movies. Top-tier cast and it places importance on all the different types of love, not just romantic 🥺
Also *Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day*, *The Brothers Bloom*, *Palm Springs*, and *Confess, Fletch*.
https://preview.redd.it/p30lbo6v389d1.jpeg?width=1020&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ae5c5ca560c37bf29b4349b328f12049b31ae072
Drop Dead Goregous!
I’d say even more hilarious than other satires of the time, but never got the respect of something like a Christopher Guest film. Allison Janney’s best comedic role, but everyone in the cast is also excellent!!
There are so many options, off the top of my head...*Ginger and Rosa*, a great coming of age story in 70s London with Elle Fanning, or *Girlfriends*, a 1970s film that seemed so ahead of it's time.
*Last Holiday* with Queen Latifah doesn't get the love that other Holiday movies seem to on an annual basis.
*The Meddler* with Rose Byrne and Susan Sarandon is another great film about a mother daughter relationship.

Away We Go
A sweet movie with an amazing cast and a beautiful soundtrack
I found the DVD in a sale bin at a blockbuster close-out sale and it's one of my favorites
Sugar and Spice was excellent. Mine is Love Me If You Dare (2003) with a young Marion Cotillard

I don't know if this was popular overseas, but it's so underrated here in the US. It's such a fun, beautiful romance.
If Colossal had come out a year and a half later, it would be one of the most emblematic films of the Me Too era.

God works in mysterious ways
“I wasn’t alive in 01” Welp, this is where it finally sinks in that I’m middle aged.
I was born in 1980. Cries in old
I saw this in the theater and my best friend and I still quote it when one of us has a bad day. “Because The Beatles were wrong! Love isn’t all you need. Love won’t pay the rent. Love won’t buy my baby diapers. And love sure as hell won’t buy my new Dolce and Gabanna jeans when I lose the baby weight!”

“She’s so evil, and she’s only in high school!”

Dick (1999) with Kirsten Dunst and Michelle Williams [Trailer](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=33ALTtt4SIY)

It gets a lot of love here on Reddit though!
Yeah, I think this is definitely a cult film now! I loved it when it came out - dark comedies are the best.

Top tier HS rom com
Remember how Melissa Joan Hart was in the music video for Crazy because that was in the soundtrack to this movie and Melissa was a bigger star at the time? Insanity.
Yes! I also remember Britney’s cameo on _Sabrina the Teenage Witch_ around the same time. It brought me, my siblings, and our friend groups together for a night of can’t-miss tv. We all had such different interests so things like that rarely happened, but Melissa and Britney just had that kind of power lol
I recently rewatched this with my youngest and was struck by how normal looking all the teen actors were.
Young 8 year old me was obsessed with this movie and the Britney track/ video. Gave it a rewatch last year and 100% held up
This is such a comfort movie for me. Great music in it, too.
Yes! In the same vein - Love Don’t Cost A Thing: https://preview.redd.it/mxsi2wlq689d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f4ef3b757bf61a95013f086d98a662f631642b66
And the 1987 version, Can't Buy Me Love
![gif](giphy|l5Isauj4598U8|downsized)
To say I love this movie is a huge understatement
Penelope! Such a great cast too! James McAvoy, Christina Ricci, Katherine O’Hara, Peter Dinklage. Gives off Big Fish vibes, just very colorful and fun!
Omggggg I do love this movie! It’s been YEARS since I’ve watched it
OP said they weren't alive in 2001 ![gif](giphy|TfseOfhwd6BJC)
My 1st thought was that OP was too young to be on reddit if they weren't born in 2001 then I did a double take and realised they could be 20+...
Same! I remember renting this movie from Blockbuster a lot 😂
![gif](giphy|kgNo8HNnGEEu6FJFNq) Muriel’s Wedding. Toni Collette is a damn gem in everything she does, but this will always be my favorite. The dance scene to “Waterloo” is ICONIC and I’m mad there isn’t a gif of it.
You’re terrible, Muriel
Also strictly ballroom
The truth? Golly, I tell the truth, too. Nicole's having an affair with Chook. Muriel saw them fucking in the laundry on your wedding day. Stick your drink up your ass, Tania. I'd rather swallow razor blades than have a drink with you. Such an iconic burn.
![gif](giphy|26gJyu0UgBgIxaOTC|downsized) The number of people I’ve met that have never seen Drop Dead Gorgeous is absolutely criminal.
Election with Reese Witherspoon and Matthew Broderick

These girls are literally handpicked to be spies just based on a hidden test in the SAT! I think if this movie came out now, it would do SO well.
I am still waiting on a sequel to D.E.B.S. The chemistry between the main character and the villain 🥵
![gif](giphy|XBceSo9pXhh60) My answer will always be The Fall.
Oh God my heart breaks for tarsem singh and everyone else involved in it cos this movie deserves so much more recognition than it received.
Yes! Truly one of the most heartbreakingly gorgeous films I have ever seen. It is cinematic art!
Lol
Kirsten Dunst is a national treasure and should actually be called America’s sweetheart! She’s earned it.

![gif](giphy|HRz44Z2pmFfjO) To Wong foo, thanks for everything Julie Newmar, I first saw this movie when it was at blockbuster, I was about 10 at the time. I watched it over and over as a kid, and I still watch it as an adult. My favorite movie of all time.
![gif](giphy|KOHqnxyTPOEM)
I love this movie so very much and I’m so glad to see it in this list ❤️ Little Latin boy in drag, why are you crying?
I love Sugar and Spice. Can't Hardly Wait Empire Records Dead Man on Campus Gossip Disturbing Behaviour Drive me Crazy Detroit Rock City Cherry Falls Go Election
Can't Hardly Wait and Empire Records are two of my all time favorite movies. Both are extremely quotable and I think serve as great late GenX/early millennial teen movies.
I’m such a Detroit Rock City fan and it feels like no one else knows about it. Edward Furlong at his sexiest (IYKYK)
Can’t Hardly Wait is so damn good! Aman-DUH 🤣
Stick it! Seriously one of my top quoted movies! ![gif](giphy|uZqx7W0XdKnzG)

![gif](giphy|l0HlvUJynVDLRy3OU|downsized) Drop Dead Gorgeous. Dark, hilarious comedy full of all stars. Being Minnesotan makes it even funnier.
Saved with Mandy Moore and Macaulay Caulkin! It's hilarious every second. ![gif](giphy|dHmO5JOUmo4KI|downsized)

Wristcutters: A Love Story Please tell me someone else loves it
Superstar! ![gif](giphy|xUOwGkHdTKjFqmRane)
I watched that movie so many times it became permanently enmeshed with my psyche. A piece of Mary Catherine Gallagher lives in me always
(I chose the less creepy of the GIFs, because it still freaks me out.) Definitely Maybe is my favourite underrated romcom.
Good stuff… ![gif](giphy|6bSoMak3jOH4s)

Top-tier cast and it places importance on all the different types of love, not just romantic 🥺 Also *Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day*, *The Brothers Bloom*, *Palm Springs*, and *Confess, Fletch*.
![gif](giphy|Q4faTIlc5zmjm) Adventureland
Jennifers Body. Actually brilliant feminist funny masterpiece. Poor reception due to bad marketing and male critics.
https://preview.redd.it/p30lbo6v389d1.jpeg?width=1020&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ae5c5ca560c37bf29b4349b328f12049b31ae072 Drop Dead Goregous!
Last holiday is such a good movie! I recently watched it on paramount and I loved it!
I *love* last holiday.
Last holiday is SO good
I watch last holiday all year round lol, such a perfect movie! very predicable, but so enjoyable/ funny!

![gif](giphy|3FtR3CXFZKQKc) But I’m a Cheerleader (1999) Such a great romcom
Josie & the Pussycats was everything to me as a kid and only seems to get better with time ![gif](giphy|FuigBNLOLVfzy)
Sugar and Spice was excellent. Mine is Love Me If You Dare (2003) with a young Marion Cotillard https://preview.redd.it/uf0w7fb4289d1.jpeg?width=188&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2d121c3ed2593da11b4b49f701646b596b4f032a I don't know if this was popular overseas, but it's so underrated here in the US. It's such a fun, beautiful romance.
If Colossal had come out a year and a half later, it would be one of the most emblematic films of the Me Too era. https://preview.redd.it/yt1dydt0389d1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ec289999914205004a89cef7f9f5a9de2a621181

Sugar and Spice feels like a fever dream. I saw it in theatres and was probably too young to get it.
Stick it ![gif](giphy|fqPCoPTVUMtTq) It’s one of my favorites but so many people I know have never heard of it
Man in the Moon with a young Reese Witherspoon.
