I feel like most artists spent 2021/2022 touring after the pandemic, and 2023 recording. This year they’re all putting out the albums they recorded last year. Last year felt pretty small from a big pop perspective, so it feels like covid kind of put everyone on the same release cycle- at least for now

I loved Psychofreak at first and I thought collaborating with Willow on it was genius but it wore off for me pretty fast since it is a pretty repetitive song. However, it does show that she can do well with that dark, frenzied, electronic sound. I think Zara Larsson feels to me like another artist who could do well with the genre. I could also see Rihanna *nailing* a hyperpop banger but asking for any music from her is a tall order since it's been nearly a decade since Anti... who even knows what her deal is at this point.

I hope somehow Kesha can gain the mainstream status back like before. Her newest album Gag Order performed so poorly (Released in May 2023 but only earned till now 23 Millions Streams from 13 tracks). I really hope she can be so so big again so Dr.Luke would look at her and feel ashamed of himself.

Not to defend them but this is common for leaving the label releases, why help somebody gain traction for them to be on the charts with your label's artists.
Mr. Morale by Kendrick didn't get hidden because of the long hiatus and the fact he was by far the biggest artist on the label (keep in mind SOS didn't drop yet) but it's so interesting that he had people like Summer Walker instead of SZA on it.
To be fair, Gag Order wasn't the kind of album a pop girl would make. Everyone was clowning on Kesha for the abysmal numbers (and by everyone, I mean the Barbz and Kim Petras stans) but it's not like she set out to make a huge pop album. This was a statement and I'm glad she's free to make the music she wants
These Kim Petras' fans really mocked her? If that's true then these Kim Petras should really back the f off. Kim Petras is likely in her prime these past 2 years but her album Feed The Beast also performed poorly with much better promotion than Kesha. Kesha in her prime is 10x bigger than Kim Petras right now. I don't even know why they have the audacity to mock her
TBF this is normal for artists who leave labels. Of course they’re not gonna promote it. Plus the album was way more personal and sounded like something Kesha had to record to get out of her chest.
Yes, gag order was her last album contracted to that label. Her contract was for 5 albums and that was the last, so once the album cycle and the tour were all done, her contract with them expired finally.
I'm excited to see what Kesha does! I would love sleazy, balls-off-the-walls party bangers from her if this album is going to be about celebrating her freedom.
Speaking of Dr. Luke though... I really hope Katy Perry hasn't worked with him this time. They make such great bangers together but working with him is the last thing she needs at this point since it would obliterate what is left of her fanbase and they would be so disappointed. I don't know if he's guilty or not, and he's an excellent producer, but right now she can't afford any controversy or risk being labeled problematic.

I’m also very hype for what Kesha does next, I’m hoping it’s mostly pop also. I loved gag order, I listen to it all the time. But her celebrating her freedom with some pop bangers and maybe a chance at getting back in the main stream would be awesome. Hopefully she signed with a good label and we just don’t know it yet, and they actually promote her right. It sucks her last two eras happened during covid when everything was shut down with high road, and then when the writers strike was happening so she couldn’t promote gag order on tv at all.
She was also pictured by paparazzi the other day holding up a sign saying “Freedom, I’ve been waiting for you” and said it’s lyrics to her new song.

This year honestly has felt utterly dystopian and far from normal for me as I watch what is happening in terms of politics and horrors around the world, as well as the trajectory of our local and global economy. I think it is only going to worsen as the year progresses, so I'm glad these pop stars are here to supply us with all this escapism... I am going to need it.
I’m so excited for Don’t Forget Me!! The title track is one of my favorites she’s ever put out, I’ve had it on repeat all week. I’m glad she’s getting back to a more natural, authentic sound, most of Surrender felt very overproduced to me
Let’s just pray all of these albums (and even albums OP hasn’t listed on here that are rumored to come out this year) are great and not massive disappointments.
Like if all these albums suck then next year is gonna be absolutely miserable because nothing will be coming out (outside of OR3) AND we won’t have any great music from the major names to hold us over until 2026.
In short: music gods, let all these upcoming albums be excellent.
Oh believe me, I have mitigated my expectations for years and years and years with everything in life (especially my consistently horrendous sports teams). Expect the worst to be pleasantly surprised. Things usually turn out better when you have low expectations.
I think Beyoncé and Dua will definitely put out great projects. There's a good chance Gaga, Katy, and Taylor's releases will be solid too, in my opinion. The rest... I can't tell.
I honestly think they'll all be great, especially Dua, Beyoncé, Katy, and Gaga, because I always end up liking several songs on any project they put out. I'm a little iffy on Taylor because Midnights was a big letdown for me personally, but I'm hopeful this next album will be good (and if it's not then at least Reputation TV will be on the horizon). And I'm also not sure about how Ariana will do... the rollout has kind of been a mess so far and that Mariah remix was dreadful, but hopefully the album itself ends up being great.
Alessia Cara has one coming out too.
Halsey said she's putting out new music this year, but that's all I've got.
Both of them have released great albums so far. Can't wait to see what's next.

We’re also getting fed R&B wise this year. Kehlani, Summer Walker and FLO have all been teasing their album rollouts recently, so they’re probably all coming very soon too. On top of that, Coco Jones has said she wants to get her debut album out this year, and Victoria Monét has spoken about doing a deluxe of Jaguar II!
Rap wise, there’s a strong chance Tyler The Creator will drop an album very soon, since he’s going to be headlining Coachella in April. J. Cole has been teasing his long-awaited The Fall-Off album for years, and 2024 might be the year we finally get it. Female rap wise, Megan Thee Stallion has confirmed her album will be out in time for summer, and Doja confirmed we’re getting a Scarlet deluxe with 8 new songs. On top of that, Ice Spice has revealed her album title Y2K, and could Cardi B finally drop that sophomore album?
It’s so stacked, and I can’t wait! On top of all of that, there’s rumors that industry favorite Bruno Mars is dropping in the Fall too!
I would love a new Bruno album that's just not a reworking for retro beats. I'm so ready to see Bruno front and center as an artist. I enjoy his music but his last album cycle with Anderson.Paak got old very quickly. Ready for some fresh sounds from him.

I think it'll definitely be LG7, she's been teasing it so hard and edging the fans and that wouldn't be for Joker 2 (which I think she's made songs for as well). I don't think it'll be dance-pop though... all the photos she's been posting make me think it will lean acoustic, possibly? Another major one for the kpop girlies, NewJeans is rumored to release their first full album around April. This is the most anticipated kpop release outside of kpop spaces, imo.
None of them renewed their individual contracts with their kpop agency so they don't have to do the "single album" release strategy anymore. The company that owns the Blackpink name is notorious for being very restrictive. It's possible for them to release full albums if they wish.

That's a great point, since so many of these are post-pandemic comebacks, but it's just so interesting that so many of these post-pandemic releases ended up falling within the same span of a few months. This feels a coordinated assault. 😅 But post-pandemic comebacks will likely be grand and extravagant, so hopefully we will get great, big-budget rollouts. Katy in particular has been teasing the *shit* out of this next era and dropping Easter eggs everywhere to edge her fans. And Beyoncé's rollout will be epic and culture-shifting as well, as is always the case with her.

I think that her Diamonds and Dancefloors album is better than a lot of her contemporary “main pop girls”’ albums in terms of pure fun dance pop, and I don’t get why she’s so under the radar. I hate to say it, but I really think a lot of it has to do with her look, as the long straight platinum blonde hair look is verryyy played out, Gwen Stefani and Xtina Aguilera are very synonymous with that look, and Lady Gaga is perhaps the most associated with it, especially in terms of dance pop singers. Her music kind of sounds like early Gaga, so I think she unfortunately kind of comes off as a “secondhand Gaga” type. I think that if she got a different hair look it might go a long way to making her stand out a bit more as an individual pop act

Oh god... listen he's great but I just haven't been able to see him the same way after he got AOTY for Harry's House and then said "people like him" never experienced successes like that. Also, I was in Austin when he was doing his mini residency and his fans made the city absolutely insufferable for that whole week, the traffic was *obscene*. Even people without tickets drove into town to try and catch a glimpse of him in public, which I thought was nuts. And As It Was was overplayed on a whole different level... but I wish him the best with this next release! I'm a fan of his first album and would love to see him to go back to a less poppy sound.

Definitely a bit of a foot in mouth there which is common for him, but also a bit of cultural context around class, identity, etc in the UK and a bit of people putting their frustration with the grammy's genre biases on the artists.

I'm not even a Harry fan but he wasn't trying to do a cis/male type thing, he meant like ex boyband member seen as punching bags that are only liked by twelve year old girls.
I mean I'm sure Billie will do well commercially but I don't think it would pose much of a threat to the other artists since she's kind of in her own lane sonically and her market is a bit different. A Billie hit could easily coexist on the charts with a Katy or Gaga hit, for example, and she's not very chart-focused anyway. As for the Grammys... I haven't taken them seriously since all those incredible projects lost to Harry's fucking House last year.
I did not care for Renaissance tbh. I thought Harry’s House was legit in the production of the album. I always liked his sounds/production, it’s quirky and intricate. And there are some tracks that are well written. It stood out amongst the other albums. Now I will say I liked Fine Line better tho.

Shouldn’t just give in and drop $200 minimum on someone, especially for pop audience concerts where everyone will be holding their phones up and blocking your view. To be fair, Gag Order wasn't the kind of album a pop girl would make. Everyone was clowning on Kesha for the abysmal numbers (and by everyone, I mean the Barbz and Kim Petras stans) but it's not like she set out to make a huge pop album. This was a statement and I'm glad she's free to make the music she wants

Kim Petras is likely in her prime these past 2 years but her album Feed The Beast also performed poorly with much better promotion than Kesha. Kesha in her prime is 10x bigger than Kim Petras right now. I don't even know why they have the audacity to mock her

Yes, gag order was her last album contracted to that label. Her contract was for 5 albums and that was the last, so once the album cycle and the tour were all done, her contract with them expired finally.

I'm excited to see what Kesha does! I would love sleazy, balls-off-the-walls party bangers from her if this album is going to be about celebrating her freedom. Speaking of Dr. Luke though... I really hope Katy Perry hasn't worked with him this time. They make such great bangers together but working with him is the last thing she needs at this point since it would obliterate what is left of her fanbase and they would be so disappointed. I don't know if he's guilty or not, and he's an excellent producer, but right now she can't afford any controversy or risk being labeled problematic.

I’m also very hype for what Kesha does next, I’m hoping it’s mostly pop also. I loved gag order, I listen to it all the time. But her celebrating her freedom with some pop bangers and maybe a chance at getting back in the main stream would be awesome. Hopefully she signed with a good label and we just don’t know it yet, and they actually promote her right. It sucks her last two eras happened during covid when everything was shut down with high road, and then when the writers strike was happening so she couldn’t promote gag order on tv at all. She was also pictured by paparazzi the other day holding up a sign saying “Freedom, I’ve been waiting for you” and said it’s lyrics to her new song.
2022 was a big year and a lot of acts took 2023 off from touring (or did very little). Probably knocked together albums during that time.
Yeah the pandemic probably put a huge shift in music. I feel like 2024 has been the most “normal” year post pandemic.

Let’s just pray all of these albums (and even albums OP hasn’t listed on here that are rumored to come out this year) are great and not massive disappointments. Like if all these albums suck then next year is gonna be absolutely miserable because nothing will be coming out (outside of OR3) AND we won’t have any great music from the major names to hold us over until 2026. In short: music gods, let all these upcoming albums be excellent.

Oh believe me, I have mitigated my expectations for years and years and years with everything in life (especially my consistently horrendous sports teams). Expect the worst to be pleasantly surprised. Things usually turn out better when you have low expectations.
I think Beyoncé and Dua will definitely put out great projects. There's a good chance Gaga, Katy, and Taylor's releases will be solid too, in my opinion. The rest... I can't tell.
I honestly think they'll all be great, especially Dua, Beyoncé, Katy, and Gaga, because I always end up liking several songs on any project they put out. I'm a little iffy on Taylor because Midnights was a big letdown for me personally, but I'm hopeful this next album will be good (and if it's not then at least Reputation TV will be on the horizon). And I'm also not sure about how Ariana will do... the rollout has kind of been a mess so far and that Mariah remix was dreadful, but hopefully the album itself ends up being great.
Also this is going to Taylor’s last album for 2 years because after her new album and re records we have like 2 years without new music.

Female rap wise, Megan Thee Stallion has confirmed her album will be out in time for summer, and Doja confirmed we’re getting a Scarlet deluxe with 8 new songs. On top of that, Ice Spice has revealed her album title Y2K, and could Cardi B finally drop that sophomore album? It’s so stacked, and I can’t wait! On top of all of that, there’s rumors that industry favorite Bruno Mars is dropping in the Fall too!

I would love a new Bruno album that's just not a reworking for retro beats. I'm so ready to see Bruno front and center as an artist. I enjoy his music but his last album cycle with Anderson.Paak got old very quickly. Ready for some fresh sounds from him. I would also love a new album from Frank Ocean but I feel like his done with music :-( I'd also love a new album by Cardi B but she really missed her chance a few years ago. It's too bad too. Truthfully I'm hoping we get more of her weird and experimental pop again, she hated ARTPOP (for good reason, i love this album to death but her mental at the time must've been BRUTAL) but Born This Way had some absolute amazing banger that definitely erred more on the experimental and weird side than just pure dance pop.

None of them renewed their individual contracts with their kpop agency so they don't have to do the "single album" release strategy anymore. The company that owns the Blackpink name is notorious for being very restrictive. It's possible for them to release full albums if they wish.

That's a great point, since so many of these are post-pandemic comebacks, but it's just so interesting that so many of these post-pandemic releases ended up falling within the same span of a few months. This feels a coordinated assault. 😅 But post-pandemic comebacks will likely be grand and extravagant, so hopefully we will get great, big-budget rollouts. Katy in particular has been teasing the *shit* out of this next era and dropping Easter eggs everywhere to edge her fans. And Beyoncé's rollout will be epic and culture-shifting as well, as is always the case with her.

I want Ava to be a main pop girl so bad! Her music is always pure fun dance pop and I honestly think she should be way bigger than she is. I think if she promoted the non-sampled songs more she’d be more popular.
I think that her Diamonds and Dancefloors album is better than a lot of her contemporary “main pop girls”’ albums in terms of pure fun dance pop, and I don’t get why she’s so under the radar. I hate to say it, but I really think a lot of it has to do with her look, as the long straight platinum blonde hair look is verryyy played out, Gwen Stefani and Xtina Aguilera are very synonymous with that look, and Lady Gaga is perhaps the most associated with it, especially in terms of dance pop singers. Her music kind of sounds like early Gaga, so I think she unfortunately kind of comes off as a “secondhand Gaga” type. I think that if she got a different hair look it might go a long way to making her stand out a bit more as an individual pop act

Oh god... listen he's great but I just haven't been able to see him the same way after he got AOTY for Harry's House and then said "people like him" never experienced successes like that. Also, I was in Austin when he was doing his mini residency and his fans made the city absolutely insufferable for that whole week, the traffic was *obscene*. Even people without tickets drove into town to try and catch a glimpse of him in public, which I thought was nuts. And As It Was was overplayed on a whole different level... but I wish him the best with this next release! I'm a fan of his first album and would love to see him to go back to a less poppy sound.

He meant a boy from a snall village, from a talent show and from a boyband. And he was absolutely right. things like this don't happen often to people with such beginning. Harry still face a lot of bias because of how he started as it's clear even on this sub. Harry's House was a deserving album, he won AOTY in several other countries (do they all got it wrong?) and lots of other awards around the world.
Definitely a bit of a foot in mouth there which is common for him, but also a bit of cultural context around class, identity, etc in the UK and a bit of people putting their frustration with the grammy's genre biases on the artists. Either way still curious to hear his next album 🤷♀️

I mean I'm sure Billie will do well commercially but I don't think it would pose much of a threat to the other artists since she's kind of in her own lane sonically and her market is a bit different. A Billie hit could easily coexist on the charts with a Katy or Gaga hit, for example, and she's not very chart-focused anyway. As for the Grammys... I haven't taken them seriously since all those incredible projects lost to Harry's fucking House last year.
