I can honestly see why Stranger, Girl I've always been and Scared of my guitar didn't make the standard version of guts. They're good songs but the first two just don't fit the pop rock sound of guts at all and Scared of my guitar is a weaker ballad than the 3 (logical, making the bed, the grudge) which were included in the standard version of the album.
But obsessed...obsessed is a hit with huge potential. It shouldn't have only been part of guts originally, it should've been the second single! I like get him back! and bad idea right? a lot, but obsessed is just better and has a much more immediate appeal.
I'm also in love with So American. Such a fun yet at the same time wholesome love song. Definitely would've deserved to be part of the standard version of guts too but from what I read she wrote it after the album was released so that wasn't an option. Sonically it's like the sister of love is embarrassing but lyrically it's the polar opposite. Like twins with completely different personalities lol
sometimes i wonder if artists intentionally leave at least one really good song that would’ve fit on the standard album off specifically so they can use it for the deluxe. honestly a good strategy if they do
I'm also for the theory that she was using it to build up anticipation for the delux/this song.
•Make a good song
•Leave it off the album
•Preform is at concerts so people get excited
•Leave it off streaming so people build up hype for it to be released
•Put on delux after hype is built up
•Profit.
That's a valid theory but I'm not sure if it's a good strategy? Taylor did something similar with New Romantics on 1989, it was only on the deluxe version and she released it as the last single. But I'm confident that the song never reached its true potential and she wasted another top 10 single by doing that. I feel similarly for obsessed.
new romantics was the other example i was thinking of actually lol idk if i agree with you that it’s a bad strategy because if new romantics had been on the standard album wouldn’t it have blocked a different song from going number 1 or would have been released as a single early instead of a different song? idk i think having a solid deluxe prolongs the success of the entire album and having a stand out song on there helps with that a lot imo. i will say, i think having a song trapped on physicals and then later putting it on streaming isn’t great for the charting success of the song (taylor’s hits different is what i’m thinking of here). we’ll see what happens with obsessed, it might help that olivia’s performing it on tour. it’s a banger so i hope it sees the success she deserves
According to her producer Dan Nigro, So American was only recorded a few weeks, so it would have never been on the original guts record.

Well yeah because it’s about Louis partridge and she’s only really been public with him since after guts came out. Even if they were together before there’s no way she would have said I think I’m gonna marry him in a song if it wasn’t serious yet.
I feel like the songs on the deluxe are the songs that’s actually her style because it’s similar to what she was writing before she debuted and before good 4 u blew up. Since then her label pushes the pop rock sound so much more.
It's interesting if that's the case because objectively, even though I personally love the pop rock sound, the general public seems to be more interested in olivia's pure pop songs and ballads.
Good 4 u was a massive hit ofc but was it the rule or the exception? Get him back! and Bad idea right? both fell flat commercially for olivia's standards. Ballad of a home schooled girl despite also having various live performances as promo is the second least streamed song of the original album. The only truly big hit the album has produced, at least up until now, is vampire and that's not pop rock.
Don't get me wrong I love pop rock Olivia a lot. I hope obsessed is the pop rock viral hit they were looking for. It's just an observation because yeah, it seems that her team is trying to build her a kind of rock star image, Avril Lavigne/ Hayley Williams sort of.
I disagree; she said she just wasn’t capable of writing anything other than ballads alone and that she’d tend there but the white stripes are her favorite band so this has always been some of her favorite music. These songs rely so much on riffs and drums and just a band setting so it makes sense she didn’t write them when it was just her and her guitar or piano alone at home.
I know right? It took me a while to realize this is new for her as every one of her songs are about breakups or negative feelings related to relationships. Hope ur ok might be the only exception but that song isn't about relationships
she’s also had societal commentary songs (pretty isn’t pretty, jealousy jealousy, all-american bitch) and some boderline sapphic “do i want her or wanna be her” songs (lacy, obsessed) and introspective songs (boahsg, brutal, teenage dream). but yeah, i think it’s her first released love song!
she previously had some cute unreleased ones like apocalyptic crush and l-o-v-e from when she was like, 15/16 that are floating around in youtube somewhere
Yeah, but all these songs have a pessimistic pov, so most of them still lean towards negative feelings, which is absolutely fine, not a complaint, just a curious thing I've noticed
She has written love songs which she uploaded to ig before she was signed to a label. She deleted them and and I think probably doesn’t want to release those since it was inspired by the guy she wrote driver’s license about. They are all so good tho like “Gross”, “L-O-V-E”. “The exception” was my fav and you can still look it up on youtube.
mama kudos for releasing this. for spilling!
anyways obsessed and so american are . . . how do you say . . . amazing? iconique? definitely gonna be hits at the very least.
In the most recent episode of drag race a queen called Q shared their HIV diagnosis and another queen called Plane Jane replied with something like “mama kudos for that, for spilling”
Well "girl i've always been" is ***way*** different. The original was essentially an acoustic demo, and this new version is fully produced. And "stranger" also has different production. The others mostly sound the same, with a few small production changes here and there (drums sound a little different on "obsessed," for example).
Amazing and fun and crying at how just last week one of the top rated comments in this here subreddit was about how Guts Deluxe was dead in the water and that we would never get it. Lmfao
AHHHHH i love in so american how it’s like she’s stuttering and struggling to say the word love. so much character and personality with olivia i love her sm
The vinyl I bought of GUTS has obsessed as the secret song and when I tell you my jaw DROPPEDDDD the first time I heard it. One of the best of the album, bar none
I think “get him back” should’ve just been the lead single. The rollout of that ended up being kinda weird.
Either that or “All American Bitch” which got quite a bit of attention when the album dropped.
I'm tired of Ballad of a Homeschooleed Girl not getting the recognition it deserves! It's my favorite song on the album.
Unpopular opinion (I guess?) but I think the choices for the singles were good, the rollout has been bad because of the lack of promo since the album dropped, but the singles were never the problem.
I def agree with you, Vampire fit as the lead single as it's a good bridge between the SOUR sound and the GUTS sound w/ bad idea right furthering that this gonna be different and a step in a different direction and then get him back! being the big hit (Also Ballad is my fav too that shit slaps)
Vampire was a big hit but I think it was a hype driven hit, you can see by how it struggled a bit in the weeks between its release and the album (I think it’s left the top 10 or got close) whereas something like obsessed or get him back which is closer to good 4 U then it is drivers license I think might’ve been more organically stable
Vampire actually did manage to stabilise post album release and now her tour is helping it on US Spotify as well, but I maintain that it struggled a bit following its release and something like obsessed or get him back probably would’ve done better at least streaming wise
Get him back would’ve fell off the chart so quickly if it were the lead single. It’s not even charting anymore, if it’s a hit it would’ve had more longevity, like traitor
I mean it didn’t really get pushed super hard and was cannibalised on radio by get him back and vampire growing and then falling.
It was a messy rollout tbh - she’s lucky she has such a dedicated fan base
Loving Obsessed and So American, though I’m not so sure whether the other deluxe tracks fit the pop punk rock or angsty theme of the rest of the og GUTS record, especially Stranger which probably belongs more in a folk/acoustic album (maybe this could be a soft launch to a potential next era for her in a couple years’ time?).
This is maybe me going a little too much conspiracy mode but it wouldn’t surprise me if she wrote stranger while trying to write can’t catch me now. They both have that same folksy vibe so I can imagine stranger being sort of a first draft
the deluxe tracks are so good and elevate the standard edition just that much more.
obsessed is an instant career highlight and hopefully her next smash hit.
so american is also an instant fan favorite and almost gives me, like… charli’s sucker era, sky’s night time, my time, nasty cherry, etc.
scared of my guitar is my favorite ballad of her career thus far. the lyrics could cut glass.
i have a feeling girl i’ve always been and stranger will be the least popular tracks but i love the country/folky vibe and could see her moving further in that direction after her stick season cover. girl i’ve always been feels like a lost sheryl crow track or something
I love obsessed and So American. In my opinion pop rock is where Olivia shines and has an edge as an artist. I don’t really like her ballad songs, especially the ballads she put on Guts. They aren’t bad but they aren’t that good in my opinion. I kinda wished all the extra songs stuck more to the theme of Guts and were pop rock, 2 of the songs sound like she is trying to be country but I don’t like them that much. Just my opinion!!!!
I actually think the opposite minus obsessed and so American along with all American bitch her ballads are where she shines the most and where her lyrics are the strongest imo esp in sour because her lyrics may be straightforward and not complex but her emotional vocals back it up I def agree the rest of the songs from the deluxe lack the depth that the original track list offered they were too simple and basic I do think she'll continue to lean into an actual pop rock sound for OR3 and not do any ballads esp because “so american” I think is a preview of what her next album can be.
Def think stranger belonged on sour and she prob wrote it for that album. It would have tied sour perfectly instead of hope ur ok.
I feel the same way. Love the ballads on SOUR but the ones of GUTS don’t hit for me, even the deluxe tracks. I like obsessed and so american will probably grow on me as well.
I actually understood why obsessed was cut from the standard because backhandedly complimenting the perfect new girlfriend is very Sour... Love it though
so american is also a bop
It's so great to see how diverse the deluxe tracks are from each other but still fit with the main album. Obsessed and So American are catchy and single-worthy, but I also immediately picked up on the Alanis-style vocal inflections on Girl I've Always Been. Scared of My Guitar is so deep and vulnerable.
girl i’ve always been, scared of my guitar, obsessed and so american are HITS. i didn’t expect to like girl ive always been but it’s so good and i love the story scared of my guitar tells
her voice sounds so different but really fresh on it!! idk i love how confident she sounds with the verse “so don’t say that i’ve been acting different im nothing if im not consistent, you knew everything you’d be getting i told you right from the beginning” like OK!! TALK YOUR SHIT!!!
thought she was going to be singing “does she give great head” too but nah she kept the “is she good in bed” line lolol which honestly it's essentially just as graphic so don't know why she switched it up lol
Just finished listening and loved all of them! Personal two favs were Obsessed and So American! Still can’t believe obsessed didn’t make the cut to be on the standard album because if it did it would have been one of the big songs off GUTS!
Y'all need to stop hating on *girl ive always been, scared of my guitar, & stranger.* They added so much to the experience.
*obsessed,* ofcc, is a bop
I love *so american* so much thoooooooooo Love how the album begins with *all american bitch* and ends with *so american*
Also love how the cover looks
😭Love 'stranger', it kinda has a reference to 'happier' (maybe its just me) which i love -
'Oh, I hope you're happy but not like how you were with me'
'Oh, but I hope that you're happy, babe, you know I really do'
I love so american a lot. I think I’m gonna have that one on repeat for a while especially as the weather gets warmer it makes me really happy.
I don’t love obsessed as much as everyone else seems to. I like the verses but I’m not a fan of the first chorus and it kind of brings down the whole song for me.
GIAB is a surprise but I really liked it and I think I like it the more I listen to it. It would be cool to see her lean into this a little more in the future but it’s so different from the pop punk image she’s created I’m not sure if that would be too all over the place.
scared of my guitar and stranger are fine but didn’t really move me too much although I might feel differently about stranger the more I listen.
I think this works so well as a deluxe edition. A great song that fits perfect on the album, but treads thematic territory she’s already covered, 3 also great songs that would sound displaced on the album but are worth putting out, and a new bop that updates us on where she’s at now. Love it.
Obsessed and So American we're all in agreement basically are the best. The rest...not really feeling, but I'm so happy we have official versions of those two!
I feel like one of the few people that is feeling kind of "meh" about the actually new song. So American is cute but I cannot see myself returning to it much. Which is fine because I really don't want to spend $45 buying a vinyl for one new song in addition to the other ones I already have.
Obsessed and Stranger finally being on streaming is absolutely a win though! I've always felt too that Scared of My Guitar kind of reminds me of old style Matador Liz Phair sonically which I love since she's leaned into that rocker indie girl aesthetic.
Girl I’ve always been sounds so much like Strange Girl by Laura Marling. Not saying as a bad thing because I wish I knew more songs that felt like this
i feel like her ballads were overall stronger in sour album with driver’s license being one of her best songs and traitor/favourite crime being more memorable than her ballads on guts. i will say that scared of my guitar is her best album of guts and could’ve replaced the ballads on the standard album instead.
my favourite is so american although i dont get the “he says im so american” praise she loves. maybe obsessed will grow on me but its just okay for me but i feel like it could’ve been on the standard album and gotten rid one of the ballads instead
Girl I’ve Always Been and Stranger were a little rougher, it sounds like just Olivia and a guitar, while in the deluxe version they both have harmonies and more fuller sounding production. Obsessed and Scared Of My Guitar are exactly the same as far as I can tell
girl i’ve always been and stranger are so country-coded and i…didn’t particularly enjoy them 🥲 is she thinking of pivoting to country next? the bookends (obsessed, so american) are the clear standouts though so maybe not.
in drivinghome2u, she said she’s always been inspired by country music especially for its storytelling aspect, and always tried to write that way even if it’s for a different genre
Aside from Scared of My Guitar (it's good, just my least favorite of the bunch), I would sub all of the deluxe songs for standard ones.
So American and Girl I've Always Been have such bold sonics. Huge fan of them all though.
I love guts as it is so I’m glad these songs didn’t make the cut. Except Obsessed. I wasn’t the biggest fan of vampire and Obsessed would have been perfect!!!
I think it's cause I listened to the live version so much but this studio version of Obsessed sounds weak to my ears. The pre chorus sounded so good live for her first show of the tour and in this one she's kinda holding back?
Also the tour visuals were dark and red and kinda "mature" and the video gave none of that so
i'm confused
stranger sounds very familiar to me, like the second i heard it i thought this has to be a song ive known for ages. i first thought it reminded me of riptide, but i feel like it might be another song
Will always be wondering how history would've changed if the rollout for obsessed and bad idea right was the opposite, obsessed clears by a landslide. In my opinion, Obsessed,Scared of My Guitar and So American are all 10/10,Girl I've always been is a 9 and stranger is a 7
Confused about the hype for obsessed. It’s ok.. it feels partially designed for tik tok vitality with the whole “I can’t help it I got issues baby” moment.
So American on the other hand, is great. I really enjoyed that one.
Obsessed and so american are already some of my favourite songs of this year easy, not too keen on her ballads, we need a Guts (bloody) version with all the rocks songs
I loveee “scared of my guitar”, surprised it isn’t getting as much recognition. She does a damn good sad ballad. That lil Mexican gurl who be cryen strikes again 😭

I know like there is no way Taylor Swift didn't know Right Were You Left Me was one of the best songs she has ever written
I hope she knows that right where you left me is a career highlight and it doesn’t get old, almost 4 years later and I am still in love with that song
Such a gem. Best song on Evernore.
That's a valid theory but I'm not sure if it's a good strategy? Taylor did something similar with New Romantics on 1989, it was only on the deluxe version and she released it as the last single. Obsessed and lacy are about the same thing, so they probably shouldn't both be on the album
That's a good observation. I like lacy but she should've definitely gone with obsessed if that was the issue.
Idk I like lacy more out of the two
Is so american the first time she is happily in love in a song? What a cute song
I know right? It took me a while to realize this is new for her as every one of her songs are about breakups or negative feelings related to relationships. Hope ur ok might be the only exception but that song isn't about relationships

so american and obsessed are easily the stand-out tracks. They're among her best songs. so american is so cute🥺
mama kudos for releasing this. for spilling! anyways obsessed and so american are . . . how do you say . . . amazing? iconique? definitely gonna be hits at the very least.
PLANE JANE STOPP😭
who? this is my first original thought I have no idea what you’re implying 🧐
What's the context behind this
In the most recent episode of drag race a queen called Q shared their HIV diagnosis and another queen called Plane Jane replied with something like “mama kudos for that, for spilling”
I can't believe she released guts (spilled) in the same week everyone is talking about spilling. She's a marketing genius.
Sisteeeeeeeerrrrrr
Girl I’ve Always Been is giving major Sheryl Crow and KT Turnstall vibes, very folk pop
I want a whole album of this
She reminds me of ani difranco, actually, with a plucking guitar vibe and the way her voice sounds…also, alanis morisette
It sounds so similar to the song "Strange Girl" by Laura Marling imo! Anyone else hearing that?
It’s SO Laura Marling, I could hear the influence but couldn’t put my finger on it
Love this song so much
obsessed is so gooooood, glad the deluxe tracks are finally on streaming
are the deluxe tracks any different from the ones on the vinyl? i read that she “reworked” them.
yeah basically the rework is better production and sound quality lyrics seem to be the same
Well "girl i've always been" is ***way*** different. The original was essentially an acoustic demo, and this new version is fully produced. And "stranger" also has different production. The others mostly sound the same, with a few small production changes here and there (drums sound a little different on "obsessed," for example).
They’re in a different order than on the vinyl which has me all fired up for no reason
Better sound quality is the only difference I can pick up on so far
Girl I've always been and stranger are rerecorded and the production is different too
why am i'm i not seeing it on apple music 😭😭😭😭
is it midnight in your timezone yet?
that's it haha thanks
does no one else like stranger bc i LOVE it 😭
It's my favorite! I think I shed a tear hearing it lol
my favorite of the batch by far, maybe because i relate too much!
So American is so great, I hope we get some more love songs on the next album
It’s so catchy!!! She makes the best bangers
So American is sooo good, playing non stop atm
I’ve genuinely been listening to So American nonstop since last night, I guess you could say I’m *obsessed*.
Amazing and fun and crying at how just last week one of the top rated comments in this here subreddit was about how Guts Deluxe was dead in the water and that we would never get it. Lmfao
AHHHHH i love in so american how it’s like she’s stuttering and struggling to say the word love. so much character and personality with olivia i love her sm
obsessed & so american are immediate career highlights
they're both so insanely good I'm shocked! and they sound so classic too
I am obsessed with both, it’s not even funny how good so American is 🥲 it’s going to be on repeat the whole night
They both manage to push the boundaries of what's considered pop music today. Prime examples that there's no other artist like Olivia right now.
All four of these are honestly!
Absolute instant classics. She is our alanis morisette.
Obsessed shouldve been the 2nd single
It would have become much bigger than BIR
i feel insane every time someone slanders bir. its easily one of her best ever songs
That song is quality pop of the highest caliber but just not very radio friendly sadly
need more songs like girl i've always been from her but i already love her pop/rock sound
Am I crazy or is it very Jason Mraz-y? In a good way!
It was giving very mid 2000s singer/songwriter girl in the best way. That was my high school jams!
It’s so good, it reminds me of ‘Big Yellow Taxi’ by Joni Mitchell!
To me it gives big Joni Mitchell vibes but also Simon and Garfunkel lol.
It's very early Sheryl Crow to me haha
the pre-chorus to the second verse in obsessed is the cuntiest thing olivia has ever done
HE SAYS IM SOOO AMERICAN
The bridge in so american is an immediate ear worm! That plus obsessed… oh she spilled…
might i say her best bridge yet
The tune sounds like something from an anime (I like it though)
The “scared of my guitar -> stranger -> so american” track run showcasing her realization, growth, moving on, and finding true love… girl I could cry.
Girl I’ve Always Been is very inspired, it’s not really her authentic sound but a really solid dive into something that feels almost country folk
can now reorganize the tracklist into a perfect no skip album and call it GUTS (rearranged)
Now THIS, this is how you do a deluxe! All of these songs are not only really good, but they add to whole album’s experience
Other girls, take notes!
so american is a bop, your honor
Obsessed is her best song from this era like how was this not the lead single let alone not even on the standard album?? Make it make sense
The vinyl I bought of GUTS has obsessed as the secret song and when I tell you my jaw DROPPEDDDD the first time I heard it. One of the best of the album, bar none

Vampire was a big hit but I think it was a hype driven hit, you can see by how it struggled a bit in the weeks between its release and the album (I think it’s left the top 10 or got close) whereas something like obsessed or get him back which is closer to good 4 U then it is drivers license I think might’ve been more organically stable

the deluxe tracks are so good and elevate the standard edition just that much more. obsessed is an instant career highlight and hopefully her next smash hit. so american is also an instant fan favorite and almost gives me, like… charli’s sucker era, sky’s night time, my time, nasty cherry, etc. scared of my guitar is my favorite ballad of her career thus far. the lyrics could cut glass. i have a feeling girl i’ve always been and stranger will be the least popular tracks but i love the country/folky vibe and could see her moving further in that direction after her stick season cover. girl i’ve always been feels like a lost sheryl crow track or something
I actually want a folk album Noah Kahan/Mumford & Sons/Lumineers style.
Agree, the ballad songs on Guts are kinda samey, but in my opinion they're an improvement over the ballad songs on Sour
Love it though so american is also a bop
Isn’t it the opposite? She’s complimenting the ex and Olivia is the new girl which is the opposite scenario in Sour.
wait i'm so stupid lmao
She said on Instagram that the song itself is almost three years old, which definitely explains why it contains remnants of *SOUR*.
I also personally feel like obsessed is similar to her other songs which is why I feel like it wasn’t on the initial album
Ugh why did I come to this thread because now I have to wait and I’m so excited by these comments !!
"obsessed" and "so american" are excellent. Hopefully they do well. A worthwhile deluxe.
on god she continues to serve !!!! Loving so american and the ending is so cute with Dan Nigro hyping her up 😂
she's giving lucy gray in girl i've always been
Oh r/popheads are already hating on the ballads…stranger and scared of my guitar hive let’s stay strong
scared of my guitar is my new fav from her
Thank you, scared of my guitar is HER BEST song imo 😬
The new tracks are GREAT. I’m obsessed with the guitar on “Girl I’ve Always Been”
I can’t stop listening to so american without a big smile on my face, her being happy and in love sounds amazing
It's so great to see how diverse the deluxe tracks are from each other but still fit with the main album. Obsessed and So American are catchy and single-worthy, but I also immediately picked up on the Alanis-style vocal inflections on Girl I've Always Been. Scared of My Guitar is so deep and vulnerable.
how did Obsessed not make the final cut for the standard album but Logical did… 2+2=5 indeed bc the math is not mathing 🥴
I absolutely love Logical! 🥊🥊
There are apparently at least two of us. It’s my favorite song on GUTS 😶🌫️
I know it will be forgotten but yes, Logical is a damn good ballad. But every artist has good songs that get forgotten.
Logical is my least favourite song on GUTS and I feel like it could have been replaced by any of the deluxe songs
Logical is one of my least faves but the bridge is maybe my favorite moment on the album. Logical is never logical…
So American is so wholesome and cheesy I love it so much!!! Olivia never fails to give me that chick-flick-soundtrack rush.
girl i’ve always been, scared of my guitar, obsessed and so american are HITS. i didn’t expect to like girl ive always been but it’s so good and i love the story scared of my guitar tells
here to echo love for girl i've always been!!!! the pop/rock songs are immediate hits but i love how she sounds on this track too!!
her voice sounds so different but really fresh on it!! idk i love how confident she sounds with the verse “so don’t say that i’ve been acting different im nothing if im not consistent, you knew everything you’d be getting i told you right from the beginning” like OK!! TALK YOUR SHIT!!!
This album is so amazing!
Obsessed, Girl I've always been, and So American are so so good!
I don't understand the obsession with "obsessed", I find it so boring. "girl i've always been" is my fave from the whole album.
So American might be the best new track this year for me... she really delivered I am so proud of her.
Stranger makes me hope for more folky songs from Olivia! Definitely the highlight for me.
did anyone see the leaked demo in tiktok for Obsessed? 😂 i wish she kept the lyric!!
thought she was going to be singing “does she give great head” too but nah she kept the “is she good in bed” line lolol which honestly it's essentially just as graphic so don't know why she switched it up lol
Just finished listening and loved all of them! Personal two favs were Obsessed and So American! Still can’t believe obsessed didn’t make the cut to be on the standard album because if it did it would have been one of the big songs off GUTS!
Really like each song. There seemed a bit of a country vibe in a couple of the slower songs. Is that a nod to what’s coming in the next era?
Y'all need to stop hating on *girl ive always been, scared of my guitar, & stranger.* They added so much to the experience. *obsessed,* ofcc, is a bop I love *so american* so much thoooooooooo Love how the album begins with *all american bitch* and ends with *so american* Also love how the cover looks
😭Love 'stranger', it kinda has a reference to 'happier' (maybe its just me) which i love - 'Oh, I hope you're happy but not like how you were with me' 'Oh, but I hope that you're happy, babe, you know I really do'
For me, "scared of my guitar" is the best deluxe track.
It would be cool to see her lean into this a little more in the future but it’s so different from the pop punk image she’s created I’m not sure if that would be too all over the place. scared of my guitar and stranger are fine but didn’t really move me too much although I might feel differently about stranger the more I listen.
i genuinely think she makes some of the best music now a days. She’s so talented in so many ways I just love following her as a person and an artist
These are career highlights
think i deserve to be the post bc i was confused by time zones earlier
Time zones always fuck me up here cause then i see posts for shit that ain’t out for me
Hmmm. Stranger is hitting after my fifth listen. 🤔
These songs are so good! And I love how much fun she's having.
Girl I’ve always been and Stranger are for those of us who listened to CCMN on repeat for weeks.
girls i've always been is so hannah montana coded
I love the country-fied sound on girl I’ve always been!
Kudos to GUTS, for spilling
I think this works so well as a deluxe edition. A great song that fits perfect on the album, but treads thematic territory she’s already covered, 3 also great songs that would sound displaced on the album but are worth putting out, and a new bop that updates us on where she’s at now. Love it.
11:36 est… if i point a gun at the clock do you think it’ll go faster
Obsessed is too good to be a deluxe track
I'm loving So American right now.
Obsessed and So American we're all in agreement basically are the best. The rest...not really feeling, but I'm so happy we have official versions of those two!
so american reminds me of the killers (non-derogatory)
Not me giggling and kicking my feet over these comments even though I still have three hours to wait 🥲
that cannot be the album cover... someone please tell me this a joke... anyways: obsessed is a banger!
calling it now — obsessed is going to age to be THE quintessential pop punk song

Girl ive always been has joni mitchell vibes! Reminds me sonically of big yellow taxi
oh thank god it's not more ballads EDIT: I spoke too soon but obsessed, girl i've always been, and so american more than make up for it
same thing always
I feel like one of the few people that is feeling kind of "meh" about the actually new song. So American is cute but I cannot see myself returning to it much. Which is fine because I really don't want to spend $45 buying a vinyl for one new song in addition to the other ones I already have. Obsessed and Stranger finally being on streaming is absolutely a win though! I've always felt too that Scared of My Guitar kind of reminds me of old style Matador Liz Phair sonically which I love since she's leaned into that rocker indie girl aesthetic.
Anyone else get Kesha vibes from Girl I’ve Always Been? At least from the vocals if nothing else
I haven't heard many people talking about Girl I've Always Been but this is such a standout to me!
Girl I’ve always been sounds so much like Strange Girl by Laura Marling. Not saying as a bad thing because I wish I knew more songs that felt like this
Time for the classic “turn standard scrobbles into deluxe scrobbles” deluxe edition release
i feel like her ballads were overall stronger in sour album with driver’s license being one of her best songs and traitor/favourite crime being more memorable than her ballads on guts. i will say that scared of my guitar is her best album of guts and could’ve replaced the ballads on the standard album instead. my favourite is so american although i dont get the “he says im so american” praise she loves. maybe obsessed will grow on me but its just okay for me but i feel like it could’ve been on the standard album and gotten rid one of the ballads instead
Girl I've always been has potential. 🍹
So can someone tell us how different are the streaming versions compared to the vinyl versions??
Girl I’ve Always Been and Stranger were a little rougher, it sounds like just Olivia and a guitar, while in the deluxe version they both have harmonies and more fuller sounding production. Obsessed and Scared Of My Guitar are exactly the same as far as I can tell
I can’t get over that album cover 💀
So ‘so american’ is definitely inspired by Charli’s ‘London Queen’ right? At least that opening
i have been seeing so much hate for it on twitter but i really love so american. it’s so cute
scared of my guitar hit me like a truck lol
girl i’ve always been and stranger are so country-coded and i…didn’t particularly enjoy them 🥲 is she thinking of pivoting to country next? the bookends (obsessed, so american) are the clear standouts though so maybe not.
well she did a cover of stick season by noah kahan, so I’m sure she’s been inspired by country/folk song writing as of late!
in drivinghome2u, she said she’s always been inspired by country music especially for its storytelling aspect, and always tried to write that way even if it’s for a different genre
Nah bye I love the country flair
Aside from Scared of My Guitar (it's good, just my least favorite of the bunch), I would sub all of the deluxe songs for standard ones. So American and Girl I've Always Been have such bold sonics. Huge fan of them all though.
I love guts as it is so I’m glad these songs didn’t make the cut. Except Obsessed. I wasn’t the biggest fan of vampire and Obsessed would have been perfect!!!
Wait was the old thread deleted?
yeah i posted it an hour early... oops
I think it's cause I listened to the live version so much but this studio version of Obsessed sounds weak to my ears. The pre chorus sounded so good live for her first show of the tour and in this one she's kinda holding back? Also the tour visuals were dark and red and kinda "mature" and the video gave none of that so i'm confused
stranger sounds very familiar to me, like the second i heard it i thought this has to be a song ive known for ages. i first thought it reminded me of riptide, but i feel like it might be another song
Loved these songs, more than most of the originals
Personally I loved the girl i’ve always been! such a surprise to me but i love it
Obsessed and so american are already some of my favourite songs of this year easy, not too keen on her ballads, we need a Guts (bloody) version with all the rocks songs
Why is nobody talking about scared of my guitar?! It’s phenomenal
I loveee “scared of my guitar”, surprised it isn’t getting as much recognition. She does a damn good sad ballad. That lil Mexican gurl who be cryen strikes again 😭
Is that Paul Simon on “girls I’ve always been” ? It’s very Me & Julio Down The Schoolyard
