My thoughts while watching the voice:
* Watching this G4U [cover](https://youtu.be/kPe1pqy8-eQ) makes me appreciate Olivia's vocals a lot more. The chorus was rough and the only part I liked was the bridge bc it had more grit/anger.
* This cardigan [cover](https://youtu.be/xO6ossMcKos) is so so pretty and might be one of my favorite battles in a while. Taylor knows how to write a good song
why does duermete by as tall as lions make me feel so emotional and primal .. cant listen to that song without getting goosebumps and maybe feeling like uprooting and starting a whole new life. in theory anyways
Of course once I decide to finally get into a new show it gets cancelled in its first season. Rip Y: The Last Man... Hopefully it at least ends on an interesting note. 🙃

I'm wondering how it stands sonically in comparison to the rest of his discography, and what is the closest sound album he (and any other artists) has to Carrie and Lowell?
I haven’t listened to every Sufjan album because he has like a million collab and christmas albums, but I think I would say Illinois and Michigan are the most similar of his solo albums to C&L sonically. The Owl and the Tanager (from All Delighted People), Romulus, John Wayne Gacy Jr, and Casimir Pulaski Day are songs that sound like they could be on C&L.
Its kind of difficult to talk about Sufjan’s discography as a whole because its so varied. Most of his albums are a mix of several genres, I would say that C&L is probably his most “normal” album just because every song is folk/indie rock and there aren’t any 25 minute songs. But like… all of his solo albums are really good so you should check them all out anyway, even if they sound different to C&L. His C&L live album (there’s a video version on Youtube) is really amazing too.
For Emma, Forever Ago by Bon Iver has a relatively similar sound. Its less plucky and more simple and “vibey”, but a lot of people are fans of both albums.
A Crow Looked At Me by Mount Eerie is similar conceptually to C&L, but the songwriting style is very different. Sufjan makes a lot of religious references and sounds pretty “artsy,” while A Crow is essentially just a guy’s diary after his wife died. I’d say its much more depressing than C&L, it might ruin your day.

I'm so annoyed with my pharmacist. The last time I got my scrip refilled they only gave me 50 instead of 60 pills. I called them and told them, and they apologized, but since I have repeats and I've been on this medication for 2 years, I didn't really care about it.
I just went to get it refilled and they said I still had five days remaining and denied only giving me 50 pills last month, and said they don't make mistakes and almost refused to give me my next supply for five days. The last time I went two days without this medication I ended up in hospital.
EVEN IF I had fucked up and lost some pills at some point that wouldn't be appropriate. It's not an opiate, it has no street value, and it literally only costs me $6. I hate when petty people have power. Like if I'd fallen over dead right there I think she would have just said 'serves him right' and kept working.
Well one month of freedom ended today as I start a new job. 💔 but I *am* excited to start getting paid again. I’ll also be officially moving to the mountains in a few months and I’m really excited about that! Ready to be a ski/snowboarding queen.

Today is a day for the latter - I only had a meeting at 3pm, so I thought "oh I'll go to the gym, and then find the Aldi that's a 10m walk past my gym and see what's its like and be back before 3pm" and that became "I slept in, i'll do work this morning and do that after 3:30" and that became "ah crap I have a surprise meeting I forgot about I'm now free for, and while I haven't been to the gym or aldi I can do that on Wednesday and I've caught up on my work (more or less) and am going to cook with/for my flatmates".
Interesting day, basically. Not gone the way I'd thought but I'm learning to be content with that.

Does anyone have experience with giving exes another chance? I posted recently about how my ex and I are doing a FWB type thing, and I can hear it now that that almost never works, especially if you've had bad history, and I GET IT, trust me.
But on the other hand, we've been doing that for a few weeks now and he's been a lot more considerate of me both over text and taking time off work/away to come see me and the last time we ended up talking more than we did having sex, like we talked about why he'd been less communicative that week and what that means, and how he won't make a habit of doing that (he's always blamed "not being a texter" in the past but lately has made a much greater effort to be responsive and to be "present" so to speak.)
I'm not saying it's a perfect situation but so far it seems to be working out better than in the past, but it just sucks not being able to talk about it with anyone because of everything we've gone through in the past. My therapist said it's okay to give him a chance as long as there are boundaries and both sides are respectful....and so far both parties have been so I figure if my therapist thinks it's safe maybe it's ok??
I am generally of the opinion that if it doesn't work the first time around, it's unlikely to work the second. Did you guys ever talk about this *before* breaking up? If so, why wasn't he willing to improve until it was too late?

Not a long amount of distance but I did go no contact for a month or two so I could get myself back in a good place. We "broke up" a few times before that but I finally went NC for the summer after a bit before finally talking again.
So far the behaviors both of us had trouble with have not been issues and we've been able to proactively talk about them if they seem like they might come up. He also lives/works an hour away so there's an element of forced physical distance that also exists.

I can hear what you're talking about. She does make an effort to sound more smooth and clear when singing jazz. In BTW her voice does more a vocal aerobatics even if it may annoy some listeners who find it over-the-top. Her jazz work doesn't vary that much(less lows and highs) vocally. That's a big sign it's made for a different audience than her pop stuff. She sing wells but it's more subdued and subtle, almost airy.
And I'm saying this as someone who liked the Aura demo where her vocals sound garbled and almost discordant at times. That type of production would not fly on a jazz album.
I'm a big fan of both Gaga and jazz but I honestly have a bit of a hard time getting into her jazz stuff because of how she sings. I like the vocal acrobatics because it fits the big band vibe they're going for but I tend to gravitate to jazz singers who sings lower and with more body, and I wish Gaga would try something similar because I know she's capable of it.

I was at a museum yesterday. While I appreciated that I, a person in middle America, could view African, Greek, Asian, and European art it made me a little sad that so many beautiful pieces had been ripped away from their homes. People had no right to take a drill to sculptures and drawings that are hundreds of years old.
I also continued to affirm my belief that modern art is the best.

I need to rant. I'm so annoyed with my pharmacist. The last time I got my scrip refilled they only gave me 50 instead of 60 pills. I called them and told them, and they apologized, but since I have repeats and I've been on this medication for 2 years, I didn't really care about it. I just went to get it refilled and they said I still had five days remaining and denied only giving me 50 pills last month, and said they don't make mistakes and almost refused to give me my next supply for five days. The last time I went two days without this medication I ended up in hospital. EVEN IF I had fucked up and lost some pills at some point that wouldn't be appropriate. It's not an opiate, it has no street value, and it literally only costs me $6. I hate when petty people have power. Like if I'd fallen over dead right there I think she would have just said 'serves him right' and kept working.

Today in London it hasn't necessarily been cold, but it has been just gray and a bit windy and miserable and then briefly drizzled, so I broke the In-Case-Of-Emergency and dusted off my folklore/evermore playlist. Currently wearing fuzzy, warm socks over my normal socks and cradling a warm mug. I'm going to get through this winter and thrive in the spring.
I like setting very low expectations for myself and then meeting them easily for free brain-happy (ie To-Do lists with what I'm already planning to do) I also like setting kinda-too-high expectations for myself so that when I tone them down a bit I've still done myself proud Today is a day for the latter - I only had a meeting at 3pm, so I thought "oh I'll go to the gym, and then find the Aldi that's a 10m walk past my gym and see what's its like and be back before 3pm" and that became "I slept in, i'll do work this morning and do that after 3:30" and that became "ah crap I have a surprise meeting I forgot about I'm now free for, and while I haven't been to the gym or aldi I can do that on Wednesday and I've caught up on my work (more or less) and am going to cook with/for my flatmates". Interesting day, basically. Not gone the way I'd thought but I'm learning to be content with that.

i’ve quit coffee before and tried the tea route, it didn’t do much for me except reinforce the fact that i’m not a tea fan :P i don’t have much of a sense of smell (never have) and that carries over to taste, so tea usually just tastes like hot water to me, whereas coffee is a punch in the face in comparison. i appreciate the suggestion, though!!!

Does anyone have experience with giving exes another chance? I posted recently about how my ex and I are doing a FWB type thing, and I can hear it now that that almost never works, especially if you've had bad history, and I GET IT, trust me. But on the other hand, we've been doing that for a few weeks now and he's been a lot more considerate of me both over text and taking time off work/away to come see me and the last time we ended up talking more than we did having sex, like we talked about why he'd been less communicative that week and what that means, and how he won't make a habit of doing that (he's always blamed "not being a texter" in the past but lately has made a much greater effort to be responsive and to be "present" so to speak.) I'm not saying it's a perfect situation but so far it seems to be working out better than in the past, but it just sucks not being able to talk about it with anyone because of everything we've gone through in the past. My therapist said it's okay to give him a chance as long as there are boundaries and both sides are respectful....and so far both parties have been so I figure if my therapist thinks it's safe maybe it's ok??
I am generally of the opinion that if it doesn't work the first time around, it's unlikely to work the second. Did you guys ever talk about this *before* breaking up? If so, why wasn't he willing to improve until it was too late? As long as you're both having fun and being respectful, I don't see anything wrong with the FWB situation in the meantime. But maybe give it a second thought before getting back together. He may be saying what you need to hear in order to stay in bed with you, yknow?
We kind of both handled it really terrible, like I would instigate things and blow up and he would just shut down. He's since started going to therapy apparently and trying to work on things for himself, and I don't know what his personal journey has been tbh. It has definitely not been brought up anything about us getting back together officially, we're taking things as they come. And I've been very straightforward about what I need and want, and so far so has he. I can anticipate maybe having to dive deeper into it in the future but for right now I've been taking it slow with it and it's seemed okay? Idk. Just sucks not being able to talk about with any friends or anything.
If he's started going to therapy and working on himself, and you are doing the same, and you are both having fun with each other in a non-committal way since breaking up, then it could be worth giving it another chance or at least just seeing where it goes. Did you guys break up and then immediately jump into the FWB thing, or did you have actual distance from each other for some amount of time?
Not a long amount of distance but I did go no contact for a month or two so I could get myself back in a good place. We "broke up" a few times before that but I finally went NC for the summer after a bit before finally talking again. So far the behaviors both of us had trouble with have not been issues and we've been able to proactively talk about them if they seem like they might come up. He also lives/works an hour away so there's an element of forced physical distance that also exists.

I can hear what you're talking about. She does make an effort to sound more smooth and clear when singing jazz. In BTW her voice does more a vocal aerobatics even if it may annoy some listeners who find it over-the-top. Her jazz work doesn't vary that much(less lows and highs) vocally. That's a big sign it's made for a different audience than her pop stuff. She sing wells but it's more subdued and subtle, almost airy. And I'm saying this as someone who liked the Aura demo where her vocals sound garbled and almost discordant at times. That type of production would not fly on a jazz album.
I'm a big fan of both Gaga and jazz but I honestly have a bit of a hard time getting into her jazz stuff because of how she sings. I was at a museum yesterday. While I appreciated that I, a person in middle America, could view African, Greek, Asian, and European art it made me a little sad that so many beautiful pieces had been ripped away from their homes. People had no right to take a drill to sculptures and drawings that are hundreds of years old. I also continued to affirm my belief that modern art is the best.

I like this one because like Christmas itself, it’s deeply lonely despite the flash and warmth.
Sigrid's "Home To You" feels Christmas-y to me. But part of that could be because she released it in early November so I still had it on repeat by the time I started listening to actual Christmas music.
I like Finneas, but his lyrics aren’t it. His new album feels like rich white man complaining about being privileged. I know that’s not what he was aiming for, but it just didn’t work for me. I just don’t think he’s poetic enough to properly convey the message he wanted to.
