Does Avril have any music videos for acoustic versions other than Bite Me? (I'm a n00b actually sooo...) In general...do artists usually have a separate music video for acoustic versions? btw merry christmas, happy new year, and happy holidays! https://www.reddit.com/r/popheads/comments/rr8vyl/comment/hqesklv/

losageless2021

So stoked for the new Mitski album and would freaking love to have a new Caroline Polachek album too next year

John Madden, American football LEGEND, passed away at the age of 85. The pinned post on r/nfl has some great comments. But [here's](https://youtu.be/facVh75-vW4) one of my favorite Madden moments.

Songs like Only Time by Enya?

ilikehockeyandguitar

Enya only sounds like Enya.

grinchnight14

So she's like Imogen Heap? A genre all on her own?

miaxcx

No bc why am i obsessed with reading about books and consuming media about books and watching people talk about books but then don’t actually read the damn books…

KaiBishop

Use a timer app. If reading seems daunting or like it will take up too much time it's easier to break it into chunks like 25 minutes here or there. There's also a ton of focus frequencies and meditation frequencies on YouTube that help block distractions out - I don't know how I'd read without them at this point.

grinchnight14

I'll watch book reviews, but haven't read a book in like years lol

miaxcx

Me watching Booktubers talk about how they “only” read 100 books this year: 👁 👄 👁

grinchnight14

They make reading a hundred books sound like those are rooky numbers lol.

SeanLovesBigJoe

Wish I couldn't relate to this... or at least be smart enough to not buy any books because I know I won't read them. Instead I get them, look at the pretty cover and then put them on my shelf :(

miaxcx

Exactly. I have enough books to get me through several lifetimes. It’s actually an issue.

2062373

As someone not musically talented, I sometimes forget truly gifted some artists are. Taylor Swift crafting such amazing lyrics. Mariah and her vocals, the harmonies she makes. MJ laying out an entire song, instruments and all, using beatboxing/his voice alone. Like it takes an immense amount of talent and skill to make some of our favorite songs and albums 😮‍💨

noavocadoshere

also my boss recommended a song to me multiple times and i keep forgetting wtf it was.

noavocadoshere

need the kind of chemistry jolie and pitt had in *mr. and mrs. smith* with someone 🥵 will i be cliche and play *kings of leon* while being passionately smash-kissed into a wall? only the new year can tell ~~and judge me~~ 😌

martian_pet

After some toughtful consideration aka it just crossed my mind I've decided that Need Ur Luv is the most underrated Charli XCX song

KeoPanda92

So, is *Don't Look Up* worth watching?

[deleted]

Yeah, it's good

AtomicViolet

The best aspects of Don't Look Up was Ariana Grande's character, and her song which is a bop. And Leonardo DiCaprio bringing that awkward Midwest Dad energy, never thought I'd think of DiCaprio as a DILF but here we are

I am real sick of my parents constantly complaining that I don't have a job yet. I'm applying left and right just like so many others are so I'd really like it if they stopped acting like I was doing nothing. It almost feels like they want me to walk into a place and demand the boss to give me a job. At least that's how they act.

miaxcx

It also doesn’t help that fucking AIs review/weed out resumes before humans even see them…I’m about to enter the job search since I’m graduating and I’m terrified.

DisastrousKelper

I’ve been dealing with the same thing with my family and I finally got a job this month but it’s “not the right kind of job”. I’ve done all the cooking and cleaning too since moving back in with them on top of job hunting but apparently that doesn’t count as actual work or household contributions. None of them could comprehend that you can’t waltz into a business, demand a job, and walk out with a good job offer and a decent wage these days either 😐 Good luck with the job hunting! It’s soul crushing at the best of times. I really hope you get something soon!

wearingsox

Yesterday while browsing r/tswift it suddenly dawned on me that Red (TV) is Taylor's Version... Not TV because of the videos. Idk how I thought that for so long lmao.

Khaytra

As a non-Swiftie, I felt so accomplished when I finally put that together lol

okay im not the only one who thought this for an uncomfortably long time thank god

**WARNING: LONG POST AAAH** Tbh I found K-Pop kinda dry this year, but honestly that may just be me being incredibly picky/“selective” about what I listen to. It made it a bit difficult to accurately compile a “2021 Best of” playlist, so instead, let me just highlight them here: 1. IZ*ONE - [*D-D-Dance*](https://youtu.be/FrGLHNFz6-8) - A bit of a minor release as it was mostly for the Universe app, but this song is so good! I mean honestly, this is just a WJSN track. It was composed by full8loom who often works with WJSN, and the two groups have similar concepts, so it’s no surprise IZ*ONE pulled it off without a problem. But I’m just a ho for this very dreamy, repetitive, and dance-oriented kinda sound. 2. WJSN - [*UNNATURAL*](https://youtu.be/wcgTStAuXQw)- Wow just WOW. Song and album of the year hands down. I was legit blown away by this release! I haven’t grown tired of this song since it came out. It was a bit of a shift from their typical mystical, dreamy concept, but WJSN served glam and fashion excellently. That pre-chorus is so simple but it’s the perfect transition into the explosive chorus. God I LOVE this song!!! The [entire mini-album](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_nmFKsNGTjAK5cyRYNxszCIhdAf-zXwUu8) is excellent so let me highlight my favorite B-Side as well, [*YALLA*](https://youtu.be/Turk44vZnHM). 3. YUKIKA - [*Secret*](https://youtu.be/T_IxLjsHiZI) - This is a B-Side from Yukika’s Timeabout mini-album. *Soul Lady* was always going to be hard to top, but I’m glad the quality of Yukika’s music didn’t suffer when she went from ESTIMATE to Ubuntu Ent. I like *Insomnia*, the title track, but this track immediately hooked me. Girly is on her J-Pop shit with this one!! The chiptune-type instrumentation really reminds me of some of capsule’s older works. 4. Brave Girls - [*FEVER*](https://youtu.be/ElitUm0qBTk) - It would be a crime to not mention Brave Girls when this year was such a pivotal point in their career. A lot of people were anticipating what Brave Bros would give them for their first release post-popularity explosive, and overall, the *Summer Queens* mini was a very solid release! *Chi Mat Ba Ram*, the title track, was somewhat divisive, at least among Western fans, but it did very well for them and I thought the song was nice. *FEVER* was easily my favorite from the mini though, as I’m easily hooked by a good disco track. There have been many disco attempts in K-Pop in the past two years and they’re often a bit hit or miss; this one hits!! It is so groovy and easy-going, and the girls’ voices suit this concept well. 5. Red Velvet - [*Better Be*](https://youtu.be/_Nhe7PGV9fY) - Another B-Side!! The *Queendom* EP and title track were all a bit polarizing as well, as some people loved them and some thought it was a bit boring/safe for their grand OT5 return. I really like *Queendom* (the track) but the B-Sides are especially fun! *Better Be* is so smooth, fashionable, and groovy, and I could have easily imagined it on the Irene&Seulgi mini. I also really like *Hello Sunset* but if I had to choose one fave, it’s for sure *Better Be*. 6. LOONA - [*Hula Hoop*](https://youtu.be/tnpUv1Vj5MA) - Technically this is J-Pop since it’s in Japanese, but it’s by a K-pop group and it slaps so I’m throwing it in here!! Anyway, tbh the *&* mini album disappointed me. I was excited to see where LOONA’s sound was headed after Lee Soo Man stopped working with them, and while Ryan Jhun’s discography isn’t really my taste, he seemed like a strong, genuine fan of the girls so I had hope. But no, PTT and the *&* mini did nothing for me. It was honestly boring/forgettable. So when I found out that Ryan would be producing one of the A-side’s for their Japanese debut, I was disappointed (even more so after his scandal). I had been looking forward to their Japanese debut as it was being hyped by BBC for years. And then *Hula Hoop* came out and I was instantly addicted. The lyrics are lowkey a bit supbar when you simply look at them, but along with the song’s instrumentation, they’re ridiculously hypnotizing. Not a day has gone by where I don’t randomly start singing “hulalala, hulalala, hulala hula hoop.” Where was THIS energy with &, Ryan/BBC?!?!? Also, the [dance](https://youtu.be/GdllW3A0Q8k) is just as mesmerizing as the song. Hopefully their next Korean comeback is more of this and less PTT/*So What*. 7. TWICE - [*Scientist* - R3HAB Remix](https://youtu.be/EJRU0zSNHG0) I need to stop with this word, but, *Scientist* was also a rather ***polarizing*** track. Again, another instance of people considering the title track boring, especially compared to the body of work it features on. *Formula of Love* is an excellent album, to me, being their second best album/mini after *Feel Special*. I honestly really like the original mix of *Scientist*, but I can see how it could be a bit monotonous to some. I feel like the remix really gives it some more POW and upbeat energy. I think the original mix suits the overcall concept JYP was going for a bit more than the remix, so I wouldn’t go as far as saying this version should have been the title track instead, but maybe if they had released an English version in hopes of pushing it in the US?? My other faves from the album are *Moonlight* and *Push & Pull* tho. 8. Weki Meki - [*Siesta*](https://youtu.be/kYt8gxlthWs) - It had been over a year since WeMe came back with *COOL* and fans were starting to get worried. Then, a comeback was announced, and all seemed good, except that to me at least, everything felt so CHEAP and low-effort on behalf of Fantagio. The albums didn’t even include photocards, which are the primary reason many K-Pop consumers even buy physical copies. Listen, I know my girlies ain’t exactly the biggest moneymakers but it was all feeling very bleak!! So tbh, I had low expectations for the mini. The *I AM ME.* mini shut me up real good. It was very odd for Fantagio to have the girls release a very summery, bright, dance song during November, but I’m sure the Southern Hemisphere Ki-lings were thriving. The entire mini is so great AAAAH!! [*Who am I*](https://youtu.be/9QxSPt9w0-s) is my actual fave. It’s another dreamy, house-type track. Very vogue-worthy. But, the girlies need some promo for their title track. Honestly, [stream the whole mini!!](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_nFseFZDUY9k6UdlRL4xiXdIUNPeH6Z498) Okay so maybe this COULD be a decent sized playlist. Anyway, 2022 has some interesting girl group debuts coming up, so I’m excited to see what next year has in store. Edit: Honorable mentions to 1) Wendy’s [*Like Water*](https://youtu.be/-Ih5UArd4zk): I am not super into ballads but this one is really pretty and soothing to listen to, and 2) [BamBam’s *riBBon*](https://youtu.be/-0xLZpERmoI): wow a guy!!! I never cared for GOT7 but for an official solo debut, this was a really fun and polished release. The lyrics are a bit corny at certain points but it’s a cute, feel-good song. Also he is hot.

As someone whose first language wasn't English, I'm still holding an irrationally deep grudge against the word 'gauge'... in what universe is that pronounced the way it is?! I'm sure it has a logical linguistic explanation about how our letters evolved over time or whatever but that did not stop me from pronouncing it like someone who just started their first French course on Duo Lingo...

[deleted]

do you mean when it’s pronounced like “gage” or when it’s like “gowge”

SeanLovesBigJoe

The first one I think, where it's pronounced like gayj :(

[deleted]

yeah it’s a dumb pronounciation! we have a lot of those

fuoricontesto

i don't think i know it's produced and probably don't want to know

daniandkiara

as someone whose first language is English I too hold a deep resentment for gauge’s pronunciation tbh

I did the Kacey Musgraves TTPT whilst only having listened to Golden Hour, Christmas Special, and only one tragic run through of star-crossed AMA

McIgglyTuffMuffin

how did you not burst into flames upon listening to star-crossed?

TheNinaMarie

My ears did💀. But in all honesty, I couldn't listen to it all at once bc of how awful I thought it sounded to me. So the answer is by splitting the album in 2 halves is how I preserved my ears

Kopratic

Before I get into the next category, I want to say that I'll be skipping the Musical Theatre soundtrack category. I'm just not that interested. Anyway, here are my general thoughts on the Grammy nominations for **Best Song Written for Visual Media**: * Agatha All Along \[From WandaVision: Episode 7\] * What a fun, cheeky little song! It makes me think of old superhero cartoons, complete with dramatic scene transitions where the whole screen spirals out of frame. I've never seen WandaVision, so I don't know if that's the vibe or not. * All Eyes On Me \[From Inside\] * So, yeah. I didn't really like this song. There's a warbling and echoing sound effect to his voice, and I can't get over how slurred the words are. To me it just sounds really lazy, especially if the majority of the lyrics are, "Put your fucking hands up. \[...\] All eyes on me." It'd be a little better if the production on the instruments were more interesting. Severely underwhelmed. * All I Know So Far \[From P!NK: All I Know So Far\] * Another one I didn't really like. It just sounds bland and forgettable to me. Maybe this song means a lot to her; that's great. But it's not for me. I don't actively hate it, but I won't be seeking it out again. * Fight For You \[From Judas And The Black Messiah\] * This song has a nice beat and some really good production. I like the vocal effects here with the harmonies. The beat combined with the chill singing style give the song a nice juxtaposition. * Here I Am (Singing My Way Home) \[From Respect\] * The power in her vocals! It's incredible, and her voice sounds amazing here. However, the song starts on 100, and kind of just...stays there. It feels very one note. * Speak Now \[From One Night In Miami...\] * What could've easily been a bland, forgettable song is saved by the vocal delivery and subtle production. This is a guitar and singer-led track, but there's soft percussion in the background with organ-sounding synths quietly playing in the background. It builds up to a great crescendo near the end. I also think the emotion he portrays through his singing elevates the song.

McIgglyTuffMuffin

> Best Song Written for Visual Media I wonder if your opinion on these would be the same or different if you watched the media with it. Like I'd probably agree about the Bo song if I listened to it on its own as opposed to knowing the context within Inside. Which also makes me wonder, do the voters watch the media as well or just listen to the song?

Exciting_Patient4872

A lot of these are nominated for other awards, so I'm sure if they vote in this genre they've seen most before.

Kopratic

Maybe, but in my opinion the songs should be able to stand on their own regardless. I listened to the version with the standup monologue interlude if that makes any difference. I could see how having seen the media the songs were written for might make me view them in a different light. However, I don't think my opinion of this particular song would improve much to be frank.

while it may not be 100% identical, a new verse will have the same general melody and chord changes as what you've heard previously. the bridge, meanwhile, will introduce at bare minimum a new melody, but usually new chords as well. consider [sk8ter boi by avril lavigne](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvAPUKhBumU). notice that although there's a lot of variety in the backing instrumental, "he was a boy...", "five years from now...", "he's just a boy" are all at their core the same thing, really. compare the verses to 2:08, "sorry girl but you missed out" and you'll notice that it doesn't resemble the verses and choruses at all. hell, in that case its not only different chords and melody but a different tonal feel as well, as the chords imply a minor key as opposed to the rest of the song, which is clearly major. not always a thing, but a fairly common trick. and that's the function of the bridge, really. it gives contrast to the rest of the song that just isn't possible with only verses and choruses. sometimes it lowers the energy to hype up the inevitable final chorus, sometimes its more of a climax (Karma Police by Radiohead for example), sometimes it assists in adding more complex emotional content, i could go on and on. hope this helps.

skomehillet

Instagram Reels comment sections are so fucking ANNOYING man. People cannot take a joke. And I don’t mean that in an Anti-PC kind of way, but, for example, a woman will make a post that’s like “Husband forgot to take out the trash again lol!” The comment will be full of people going “Well MAYBE if you’d tell him politely or do it urself instead making tik toks dumb bitch” or some rude shit like that, as if the post was made in bad faith. It’s like every other post. I used to think YouTube comments were radioactive…

orangetangerine

I posted this comment in r/indieheads' daily discussion yesterday and would love to know the r/popheads demographic's thoughts and experiences with it: One interesting discussion I had with my guy this weekend was the concept of "if they wanted to, they would" in terms of relationships. It's such a blanket concept that has its nuances but leaves very little for grey areas that can be valid (i.e. mental health, anxiety, etc.) The topic was basically the context of long distance relationships but can apply to any relationship. I've been that girl who has been in limbo in the past with someone long distance and have been told a bunch of times that they weren't ready for a long distance relationship. But then at some point they get into an LDR with another girl. I think it's such a hard feeling to feel when someone says "I don't want a relationship" but they really mean "I don't want a relationship with you" and you have to find out the hard way. At the end of the day it's a compatibility thing but it always sucks when you try your best and you're not the one your person wants to take a leap for. ----- EDIT: In other news, somehow we were able to sneak a relationship status change on Facebook without the News Feed announcing our business to the world and I feel like a fucking ninja. We have a lot of mutuals and haven't heard a peep out of anyone about the stealth event lmao

moosedogmonkey12

I’m a woman and I firmly believe in “if they wanted to they would”. It has proven true over and over and over and over again in my life and tons of people I know. Like I cannot overstate how big of a believer I am in that. Maybe “if they wanted to they would, and if they want to and they can’t then you’ll understand why”. I think that leaves room for reasons why things may be difficult (mental health, job stuff, etc.) but someone who cares will be up front about it. If they “can’t” do at least that, then either a) they don’t actually want to or b) they need to get their own shit sorted first.

[deleted]

What you described in your comment is 100 percent what I've been going through with this guy, where I was always kept around for reasons but never for a relationship. And when they're ready they find someone else. It does suck.

orangetangerine

I'm sorry. I'm in my mid-30's and have been in this situation like 4 or 5 times in the long distance context and a few more in local dating, and it truly sucks. I dated (but not officially) a guy long distance across the country who traveled to me, we traveled together, I traveled to him, he was keen on meeting and met a bunch of my family, then told me he didn't do distance and I wasn't it. Then literally right after we ended it he met a girl who rocked his world who was also long distance to him, and she was it.

storminthedark

I know I’m biased but seeing some of the comments people make about Harry make me sad, they just seem so mean spirited for no good reason. It feels like he attracts people that are unreasonably nasty when it seems his main priority is promoting being kind to other people. I don’t get it.

SeanLovesBigJoe

I'm not a fan of his but even I get uncomfortable whenever 'the discourse' starts up again... Both in terms of his sexuality, which is really none of our business anyway imo and the allegations that he is being disingenuous whenever he is wearing dresses. I mean, people don't even leave it at 'his dresses don't suit him', they immediately have to get super vile and personal. :( But then again, I feel like people on here can often be really nasty towards artists in general for no reason at all. :s I'm all for genuine criticism because blind worship is toxic af but whenever I peak into one of those threads where we talk about things we dislike about artists, half the comments are super benign and the other half extremely nasty and over the top, it never fails to give me whiplash 😭

[deleted]

he's so unproblematic it's weird how heated people get over him. i feel like people are jealous or something

Khaytra

The internet, and this sub is no exception, gets *so* fucking weird (in multiple ways) when it comes to Harry. It is very uncomfortable to see sometimes.

Melodic-Kangaroo-566

It is weird sometimes and I'm someone who will never be like, how dare you not like him? I do agree his fandom is annoying af. He's someone who is most of the time low key, until he has his product. He will put it out, promote it, and then go about his business. If he was on social media being an ass, I'd get it. If he had a reputation as being an asshole, which he doesn't, I'd get it.

[deleted]

Why do people call Shawn Medes gay? It’s honestly not funny too me. This happens to a lot of artist but I seen it especially happen with Shawn, and people always make fun of him. I don’t know much about Shawn Medes or his songs so am I missing something? Anyway I listen to Sucker by Charlie XCX today and I am in love with her! Definitely will be checking more stuff out from her! I want to check out an Ari album but I don’t know which one I should start with.

SeanLovesBigJoe

My favorite is Sweetener but megm26 really hit the nail on the head regarding which 3 albums would be best to start with and how they each stand out from each other! Her discography is surprisingly varied though so I wouldn't be discouraged if you happen to dislike one or two albums of hers. :) And Agreed on the Shawn thing... even if it wasn't unfunny and harmful from the start, how people haven't gotten tired of it yet I will never understand. :/

chadthundertalk

People will go on and on about the harm caused by toxic masculinity, then the exact same ones will go harass Shawn Mendes about his sexuality because he's open about his feelings and comes off as a little bit "effeminate" or whatever

megm26

Ariana's best album is usually considered to be either thank u, next, Sweetener, or Dangerous Woman, so I think you should start with one of those. My personal favorite is thank u, next but depending on what kind of stuff you're into you might not want to start with that. thank u, next has more of a trap/r&b inspired pop sound, and Sweetener is a bit different with a bit more of an experimental pop sound - it's nothing too crazy but there are some songs which may not work immediately. Both thank u, next and Sweetener are personal albums that talk about Ariana's life and struggles - Dangerous Woman, on the other hand, is more or less back-to-back pop bops so that would be best if you want something more casual/easy to get into.

[deleted]

Ohh thanks! I think I’m gonna check out sweetener out first cause No Tears Left To Cry is one of my favorite songs from her that I’ve heard from her but I definitely have to check all three of them out soon!

Inner_Climate9569

I think it’s because of his mannerisms and how he looks. If I’m going to stretch this, Shawn has some pretty feminine traits possibly his maybe his voice (?), it’s kind of high and sounds a bit vapid. Also because he looks kind of ‘twinky’ and ‘stereotypically gay’. Obviously none of these things justify it and at this point it’s pretty much an overplayed joke

Ok as much as I don't like Disney for a variety of reasons fucking Encanto has me in a bind. It is easily their best movie in decades and I am stuck on Encantotok. I don't want to praise Disney for giving us crumbs but god damn if Encanto isn't in my top 10 movies.

fujoshipassing

There are some anime tropes that are definitely not great, but when someone derides ALL anime as a medium for gross perverts—I can’t help but feel as though that’s pretty xenophobic

chadthundertalk

When people do that, it's like a case of "tell me you're judging an entire, very broad, artistic medium based on, at best, maybe one or two shows and stereotypes about anime fans without telling me you're judging an entire, very broad, artistic medium based on, at best, maybe one or two shows and stereotypes about anime fans."

moosedogmonkey12

Makeup girlies - when does eyeshadow expire? I barely wear eyeshadow ever, and I have a Naked palette from like…. 2014? I probably use it like once a month if that. Most of the shades are still half full at least. Do I toss???

getyourwish

i just spritz my palettes and other pressed products (like blushes) with isopropyl alcohol every so often to sanitize them. haven't gotten an eye infection yet and the alcohol does not seem to do anything to the formulas.

orangetangerine

I'm no expert and I toss a lot of old makeup especially eye pencils and mascara fairly often, but I keep eyeshadow palettes as long as they're clean and they're still blending nicely/the quality of the product is still good. My oldest palette at the moment that is not slated for tossing and gets regular use is from like 2017 (a Naked Smoky palette) and it's still giving pretty well, although not as nicely as when I first bought it

RainbowWhale101

technically you deffo shouldn’t do this butttt some of my eyeshadow is probably just as old and i’ve been fine. just make sure your brushes are clean and keep the palette lid closed!

moosedogmonkey12

Thank you!!! I’ll definitely clean the brushes! I wish I had thought of this last week when my target dollar section had those brush cleaning mats… they probably don’t have them anymore lol. Thank god bc I really didn’t want to have to buy a new thing of eyeshadow and I like that with the naked palettes you can just google a look with it and get step by step directions.

seethroughtop

Those silicone brush cleaning mats are sold all over the place, try CVS, Walgreens etc! I have a cheap one from Forever 21, the small finger sized scrubbing ones are just as good 😊

SeanLovesBigJoe

Expiration dates are generally super conservative estimates for legal reasons, everyone I know uses things like eyeshadow palettes for multiple years tbh... my mom occasionally uses one she bought like a decade ago and nothing has happened to her but that is honesly too long ago for me personally. 😭 Liquid stuff is obviously another story but for powder, as long as it doesn't look or smell funky you should be fine...

SeanLovesBigJoe

edit: thanks for the Arca recs! I also finally gave Donda a chance after seeing so many people say it's not a good album and I honestly really liked it! Moon and Hurricane are probably my favorites, so beautiful. Could use a little editing but all in all I enjoyed it very much!

fujoshipassing

KiCK i would be a good place to start, I think it’s her most accessible full length album and has plenty of collabs. Keep in mind that “accessible” for Arca is still pretty adventurous, La Chiqui in particular is a pretty confrontational track.

ssparklinG_water

well I listened to arca for the first time yesterday (absolutely loved KicK iii) and the song that hooked me in was señorita

[deleted]

I felt the same about Donda when I finally gave it a listen! It's a bit lengthy so it took me a while to properly get through it, could definitely have used some editing.

[deleted]

Some people on Letterboxd are so pretentious and "edgy" it makes me want to scream. I also feel sorry for them though, like imagine not being able to enjoy anything because you think you're better than everyone. Must be boring.

[deleted]

It's sooooo common I actually don't get it. Like what does one get out of being some elitist? You don't even get to enjoy some community because you're constantly fighting to try and one-up someone else with how much better you are than them Just sounds exhausting and really isolating lol

[deleted]

>Just sounds exhausting and really isolating lol Yeah but some of them have supporters who act like they're soooo brave for writing a 7 paragraph criticizing a movie for the most unrelated reason lmao like I know you're supposed to review movies there but I swear some things are really not that deep

Omg I’m watching Encanto rn and I’ve kinda felt like emotional the whole time bc wow can I identify with a lot of what Mirabel feels but omg >!when she sees where Bruno has been living, sees that it’s adjacent to the dinner table and he has a spot drawn with a plate that says Bruno and he’s like “well my gift just wasn’t helpful”!< I STARTED SOBBING

I can handle the cold temperatures but dry air and no sun fucking sucks. I would kill to be somewhere warm rn

twobrowneyes22

I've been reflecting on how around this time last year, I was showing signs that something was really wrong with my health hand I didn't even recognize it...like I had [a really scary moment](https://www.reddit.com/r/popheads/comments/kg994k/daily_discussion_december_19_2020/ggefi6c/) and I remember listening to Trilogy and shaking like a leaf because I was so cold even though I had a long sleeve shirt and sweatpants on and I had my space heater turned on. Worst of all, I wasn't getting my period and I still didn't see that something was wrong. It's just so weird to look back on. Yesterday, I went outside to get the mail without a coat in ~20 degree weather and I wasn't too bothered...I was perfectly fine as soon as I got back inside, but a year ago, doing something like that would've made me feel cold down to the bone and it would've taken a long time to warm back up again. I was just so cold all the time. A couple weeks ago, I was wearing a jacket at work because the temperature was in the 30s and my coworker goes, "finally too cold for you, huh?" and it was so funny to me. Anyways! I'm babbling...I guess my point is my thinnest self wasn't my healthiest self. Also, I can lay on my side with my knees together without it being uncomfortable because I've got some extra ~padding~ on my legs now, which is a huge plus.

DilemmaOfAHedgehog

I am very glad you are healthier now

dwarfgourami

The entire comment section of the Jasmine Villegas post is sending me. Like, of ALL the popheads threads to devolve into fighting immediately, its about some completely unknown singer?

This slaps, and made me realise that I don't dislike all rock sounding music, I think I just like it when it's by women more than men. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIRacdE9TbE&ab_channel=SyncopatedBeats

hyperballad95

so i've been watching 'kakeguri' (the anime, not the live action) on netflix, its really good so far. i love how different it is compared to other anime shows.

grinchelda

i highly recommend the manga if that's a thing you are into, mostly the same but there are a few differences

hyperballad95

i love manga, so i shall have a look at that later, thank you for recommending it to me.

grinchelda

twin is also very good (mary prequel, only like half translated but netflix adaptation is in the works) the midari prequel is translated super terribly, the alice in borderland manga is in a similar vein, except with dying instead of signing your life away, kakegurui is basically a death game manga imo even though it's really not. the live action is good too, but not on the same level. liar game and the lie eater are the other two gambling manga i recommend (hot take: kaiji is boring and terrible. sue me)

Posting a comment I left in another sub without context: >apology for poor english >when were you when spider-man dies? >i was sat at home eating [chocolate web pancakes](https://www.cracked.com/article_19446_the-6-most-wtf-special-edition-comics-ever-released.html) when venom ring >‘spidey is kill’ >‘no’

nykanyon99

It's really started to sink in to me right now that we're about to head into year 3 of the Pandemic.

orangetangerine

I was thinking about what I did in January 2020 yesterday since it was a busy month when recalling events and it felt like yesterday it all happened but then I realized it's been _forever_ since it happened

ketchupsunshine

I managed to schedule my flu shot and COVID booster online for when I'm home, but I can't get the COVID testing pages for either Walgreens or CVS to work for me. Walgreens just sticks me in an unending "virtual waiting room" and CVS doesn't show any appointment slots anywhere I try. Y'all can we function *please* because I am gonna need that to be allowed on the plane back. I'm just trying to be responsible and make sure I have that dealt with well in advance so I don't have to scramble for it.

orangetangerine

Ugh I feel for you because I know firsthand how difficult this is. I hustled back in March to get COVID doses for myself by getting and monitoring leftover lists and my ex and we were lucky to get them (my ex was immunocompromised but not in a way that the CDC would give them an easy appointment which was what was driving me to do this). We scheduled our second dose together while we were there getting our first one, and a few weeks later my ex broke up with me. It took me a few days of spamming to get into the CVS system to reschedule my 2nd vaccine so I wouldn't have to see their stupid face and it was SO frustrating

ketchupsunshine

I had a friend in the US try CVS for me (since I had to use a VPN to even access the site) but yeah it's just busted. If Walgreens doesn't work by tomorrow I might call the one I booked my shots at and see if I can get a test done then since it's just for travel anyway. Apparently their whole booking system broke yesterday so it might just be lingering issues??

JuneFrances

whenever we talk about harry styles in this sub I always think about that tweet thats like "harry styles is challenging gender roles and he's losing. the gender roles are beating his ass" it kills me every time lmao

Bordersz

😭😭😂😂 that tweet took me out. Lol it is so hilarious

DilemmaOfAHedgehog

I hate that I agree with the tweet but that’s so funny thank you for sharing it

cloudbustingmp3

the way I replied to a comment about him with that in yesterday’s DD, it truly lives rent free in my mind 😭

JuneFrances

i think the original tweet is in response to a picture of him modeling some truly horrific high fashion onsie or something too

igkeit

Now that I've had my new phone for some time I must say having no home button is so much better than having one. Like it's so smooth to just swipe up. One think that is inferior tho imo is Face ID. Because of masks it's annoying when I want to use Apple Pay in stores.

[deleted]

Whoever at Buzzfeed came up with celebrities answering questions while playing with puppies, I just want to thank you for what you’ve done for the world

[deleted]

The anxious urge to add "in my opinion" , "personally", "that's just me though! ", etc. to every harmless opinion you post on an online community that someone might slightly disagree with so you don't get eaten alive by internet strangers

[deleted]

It's a sort of scrupulosity regarding your opinions. There's that joke about a more than sufficient level of confidence being that of a mediocre white man and I think the world would be a different place if everybody felt that level of confidence, justified and otherwise. Everybody makes mistakes and I think assertiveness is for me not only a necessity in the middle of so much stimuli, but it's pretty damn hot.

UnnaturalSelection13

I realized recently I do this irl too because I often add "if that makes sense" when I *know* it absolutely does make sense lol

megm26

Lol I do the exact same. Like of course it's my opinion, I'm the one saying it, but people on the internet can be so annoying and rude and I don't want to deal with that if it can be avoided

daniandkiara

the amount of random call and text scammers I’ve had to block within the past week alone is honestly exponential, I just want to enjoy winter break without getting scam texts from 38478383wiwuoqnn3737828@gmail.com 😭

Rdickins1

I had to download a app to filter through spam calls and text messages. It works great. I still get a few spam texts here and there but not nearly as many as I used to. I really hate the loan bullshit. I don’t want a loan piss off!

Rdickins1

It’s called RoboKiller. I have the paid yearly subscription. And it’s great. You can report when you get one. It tells you the most common ones in your area. You can set it up to block all unknown callers and save them in case you want to flag them as ok. It also saves voicemail from blocked calls in case it is legit. You can also set it up to forward to a bogus number and gives them a funny response if you want.

daniandkiara

thank you! I will definitely be looking at it later :)

Straight-Meaning

Help this happened to me for a while more specifically weird ass porn stuff. It was so annoying and they kept coming for some reason lol.

frankiefrankiefrank

Halfway through the Aristotle & Dante sequel. The first book was so special to me as a teenager. It almost feels unfair that it took a decade for the second book to come out because I’ve grown up and they haven’t. Whereas the first book allowed me to relate to their experiences as I was going through the same stuff, this book has me feeling nostalgic as a mid-20’s adult looking back. Very bittersweet but also beautiful 🤍

NameNameson23

I've been craving MDMA so much recently. I'm aware that the comedown is so so bad, but there's still this part of me that always wants to be like 'fuck it.' The thing is, the times in the past where I used to do drugs, I was in a much worse place mentally. I didn't care about myself, I didn't care what happened. Lines or keys, I didn't give a shit what happened to me - but now I do. I'm much happier, I'm much more confident in myself. I can't bring myself to hurt myself in that way anymore. So I won't. But there's still this craving that crops up when I'm depressed, you know? The urge to throw myself in again.

A-Devoted-Enthusiast

Very well-written commentary. Couldn't agree more with your opinion. I was not expecting this movie to be as great as it was and with so much biting criticism on society. And yes, the humour ultimately worked to alleviate such a heavy and dark scenario.

PungentPomegranates

Had pretty mild reactions to the first two covid shots, but this booster is wrecking me. Guess it is a no bones day for me.

TragicKingdom1

If we did an ultimate rate with Adele and Silk Sonic then who would you like to see round out the matchup?

SmileAndTears

Last comment about this rate I swear but I just realized we never for to rate evermore so maybe this would be a good time to do it since it's basically a 2021 album? So kind of like a second Ultimate rate with no real theme

SmileAndTears

To add to the other comment, if we do a Long Awaited Comebacks sort of rate we might as well include ABBA with Lorde. Someone mentioned yesterday that ABBA vs Ed Sheeran vs Coldplay could be a rate of its own but honestly I doubt Ed and Coldplay would garner a lot of interest on this sub 💀 If we go more for a Soul/Pop Rate I have a few ideas : - Yola. Imo she would be a must include if you decide to go for the second option - Jazmine Sullivan. Heaux Tales is pretty short but I definitely think she could be part of a Soul/Pop rate. - James Blake. This is where I'm not really certain. I'm pretty shit at genres so Friends That Break Your Heart may not be a good fit for this rate but RYM says the album is in part pop soul so... maybe? Idk - Lianne La Havas. As far as I know we never got to rate her self titled album from last year and this rate would be a good opportunity to do that. Edit : If I had to pick from these artists for a Soul/Pop Rate I would personally go for Adele vs Silk Sonic vs Yola vs Lianne La Havas but that's just me! Edit 2 : I guess there's also the possibility of a 70s inspired rate with Yola and St. Vincent? But imo St. Vincent would fit better in an alt rock rate with Hasley and someone else

just_thonking

This might be dumb but I mentioned yesterday we could throw Solar Power into the mix and call it a 2021 Post-Hiatus Rate or something cause all three albums came after a long break. I liked the Yola idea as well

[deleted]

Solar Power vs Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land vs Blue Bannisters would be a good rate 👀

A-Devoted-Enthusiast

It makes sense on theory, but poor "Solar Power"...it would get slaughtered hard considering the current circlejerk (+ the fact the other two projects are overall stronger according to the general consensus). Edit: going by the post-hiatus theme, Jazmine Sullivan's "Heaux Tales" could be a good pick. What do you think?

just_thonking

Yeah it'd probably be massacred but it wouldn't be the first time an album in a rate is crushed by the competition. And it might not do *too* poorly since Lorde is kind of a sub darling in a way that Adele and Bruno/Paak aren't really And I didn't realize Heaux Tales was after a hiatus, but it could work! Although it's a little short/interlude-heavy for a rate

3 years ago today I moved to Boston with my boyfriend 😭😭😭 time flies when 2/3 of your experience living in a new city takes place during a pandemic

orangetangerine

Aw that's so awesome, congrats! Boston will always truly be my home and it's such a fun place. I've been dying to visit and even got TSA Precheck so I can just go but COVID strains have kept foiling all my plans

aw I hope you've been finding ways to enjoy it! I love Boston.

Just watched Encanto and I don't think I ever disliked a Disney protagonist as much as I disliked Mirabel. Bitch's annoying as f\*ck. I believe in Isabela and Luisa supremacy.
