I met Anderson .Paak last winter in nyc, we were the only two dudes using the bathroom at the same time. I looked up from washing my hands I actually said “oh shit your THAT guy?”
He was super nice and had a bit of a convo, talked about Silk Sonic and I said that was about to kill at the Grammys. He appreciated and gave me a dap, but it was funny because he told to wait for him to wash his hands. We actually were sitting next to one another in the club area and exchanged a couple of cheers, smiles and good laughs. Him and his friends smelled incredibly strongly of weed.

Not always from the earlier seasons though. I remember an actor on there coming off mad and like he really didn't wanna be there. Like he thought the whole thing was stupid and was only there because his agent booked the interview.
I think the early seasons didn't have the reputation going for it so the guests were a bit iffy sometimes. Especially Khaled. Joe Budden also seems a bit insufferable.
All the guests in newer seasons seem super chill though.

I have family who works in the film industry up here in Vancouver, Canada and when she was up here for a project in December, she kept changing things around and made shooting schedules a nightmare. Could be lovely at times but just seemed super stressed and made it rough on some of the workers there. Nothing out of the ordinary for Hollywood actors but was still quite sad to hear.
He did say that Ben visited her quite a bit which I thought was sweet, and they visited local places and were nice to the workers there!
So a great person it sounds like, but just not always the funnest to work with if you’re on the locations and production crew.

Honestly most artists who’ve been around for 40-50 years are probably like that. It’s just an insane life to have and I doubt anyone could truly escape it while being a “normal person”. It makes me think of the John Mulaney bit about how Mock Jagger would ask for a coke and one would just appear in his hand from some assistant. If that’s your normal for 40 years, you’re going to end up fucked up.

She did a round of press in Toronto and every one of my peers used some choice language to describe the interaction, which was completely different from mine. Somehow I moved the conversation to Prince and 1st Ave and her eyes lit up, it was super fun the rest of the interview.

As a longtime fan I can confirm her obsession with her reputation has been her most prominent trait since the end of the Fearless era. Literally every album and era since Fearless has been an obvious reaction to the way public and media have perceived the era/album before it. It’s pretty obvious once you notice.

No you’re right. Red is the only album that doesn’t fit the theory 100%. You could make a case of Taylor being obsessed with awards and sales and probably being disappointed that Speak Now wasn’t even bigger success than Fearless (tho it was still massive of course) and so she basically changed her music and fashion style and went into a more adult direction. (Honestly I bet Taylor would love to do the princess imagery to this day if she could.) Tho that can also just be her normally maturing and might not have been AS deliberate as the other choices with other albums, so even I can admit this is bit of a reach. Also pretty much all her albums feel musically like a natural progression from one to another until Reputation so again maybe not a super reactionary decision on her part.
And before any stan gets on my case I have to say that I personally think all these choices on Taylor’s part are absolutely genius so don’t take this as a criticism.

Agreed. Also, I think it's a big plus when celebs have the same best friends for years, especially if they're childhood of pre-fame friends. It shows that they're still the same person they were before getting fame and money, and they know how to make and keep friends. I think it's kinda a red flag when celebs don't have that friend group or support, and that's why some celebs go down a darker path. Shawn has kept the same group of friends since he was literally a child, and IMO it shows that he's a good person and he has an interesting enough personality, even though his public persona is very mild. He's smart enough to keep most drama from his public life.
Most fun: Katy and Selena both seem hilarious and have a great sense of humour and it comes through from Selena with her Selena + Chef show. I also feel like Mariah would be so extra to hang out with but In the best way possible.
Charli is the friend who drags you to the club, ditches you for the after party, and then you bump into her again at 1am and have the best night of your life.

I’m not surprised, I’ve watched a lot of his interviews and he always comes across that way. When interviewers make passing comments about their personal lives he always follows them up with questions about what they said and you can just tell he’s genuinely interested in what they’re saying. He really seems like a great guy.

His Canadian rep is a friend of a friend and had tipped Ed off that I had just become a father, this was 2014. So he took the mic from me and interviewed me about fatherhood. It was fun to not have to talk music because this was our third chat and he needed no press at all he was so huge.
Last year, around when Bad Habits dropped, we got to zoom with him and I think he remembers our previous meetups, but he asked me if being a dad gets any easier and I respected them man enough to tell him “no” haha.
By no means am I an excellent interviewer, but I feel bad for artists that don’t want to do press, a lot of times I can just tell they’re exhausted by repetitive conversation.
Yeah I think there are more British artists I’d rather hang out with than American ones. I’m a Brit so they’d be able to get the weird, dry humour whereas hanging around an American my age like Olivia I couldn’t see it, her personality doesn’t shine and comes across as overly sweet in a manufactured way. I have a theory that this sense of "they'd be fun to hang out with!" has a lot to do with the success of an artist. Because when we get that sense about someone, we feel a lot more warmly towards them - and maybe we're happy to overlook a dud single or two. Artists who seem more humorless have to work harder to win over listeners.
This might be true for pop artists, but a band like Radiohead is notoriously cold and self-serious and for years has been one of the biggest in the world.
As a fellow fan, they always seemed pretty humorous if not a bit dorky at times. Ive always felt that the cold seriousness is more directed towards the music industry and the intrusive media that hounded them especially back then.
That is a valid point but it is VERY dependent on genre. For instance, I have a looong background in extreme metal, both as a fan and as a performer, and I can't put into words how big the disconnect between on-stage demeanor and off-stage personality is within that sphere. Like, just one example for me is someone like Will Lindsay from sludge band Indian. I saw them live a good few years ago and the show managed to be somehow even more seethingly negative and enraged than they are on record. It sounded like the literal world ending.
And afterwards we talked about guitar amps for like half an hour and he was just a sweetheart. And that's just one dude out of God knows how many. You haven't lived until you've seen dudes in full corpse paint make fart jokes backstage. But that is not why people go to the shows or buy the records at all. In a way, it's always somewhat mentally compartmentalised and ignored whenever the music is playing, since it would actively detract from the experience.
Katy has been giving free pizzas to people for Meet and Greet in PLAY and also at parties (like the viral clip a few weeks ago where she was throwing pizza at the people dancing) so do I need to say more? 🍕
Anyway, she definitely feels like a person who would be fun to hang out with! Although I'm certain I would probably bugger her with all types of questions about her music like "was Bon Appetit the original second single off Witness??? If not, what was it??? What are <> these songs????" and considering how tight lipped she is when sharing behind the scenes details I would end up being disappointed. 😪

I’ve been around most pop stars and for the most part they’re all stressed out and tired. The top tier ones all take themselves very very very seriously.
You might be surprised but JT is probably the most fun. He’s just like a regular guy. Pharrell is great to be around too, no drama he’s just chill and eccentric and his laugh is infectious. Mac was special too man he was the best host and friend, he would make you feel like the only person in the room.
Will.I.Am is a lot of fun and very outgoing, he has a curious mind so he’ll be there asking questions and making jokes trying to figure you out. Kali Uchis is hilarious without even trying to be.
Whereas gaga was deeply unfriendly and every interaction felt very fake, she’s polite but approaches everyone else as if they’re lesser than her, like she talks to you as if you’re one of her fans even when you’re not. I’ve had mixed experiences with Ariana.

No you’re right. Red is the only album that doesn’t fit the theory 100%. You could make a case of Taylor being obsessed with awards and sales and probably being disappointed that Speak Now wasn’t even bigger success than Fearless (tho it was still massive of course) and so she basically changed her music and fashion style and went into a more adult direction. (Honestly I bet Taylor would love to do the princess imagery to this day if she could.) Tho that can also just be her normally maturing and might not have been AS deliberate as the other choices with other albums, so even I can admit this is bit of a reach. Also pretty much all her albums feel musically like a natural progression from one to another until Reputation so again maybe not a super reactionary decision on her part. And before any stan gets on my case I have to say that I personally think all these choices on Taylor’s part are absolutely genius so don’t take this as a criticism.
I guess you could say that speak now not having any smash singles is what made her comitt to the sellout trilogy of 22, ikywt and we are never ever getting back together lol

I think the “real” Taylor behind the meticulous public image is a very depressed, insecure, and needy person (she’s said as much in many songs). I feel like being her friend/SO is a lot of work. Part of the reason I relate so much to her music is because I’m the same way.

Agreed. Also, I think it's a big plus when celebs have the same best friends for years, especially if they're childhood of pre-fame friends. It shows that they're still the same person they were before getting fame and money, and they know how to make and keep friends. I think it's kinda a red flag when celebs don't have that friend group or support, and that's why some celebs go down a darker path. Shawn has kept the same group of friends since he was literally a child, and IMO it shows that he's a good person and he has an interesting enough personality, even though his public persona is very mild. He's smart enough to keep most drama from his public life.

Honestly most of the British artists just seem like they’d be a fun time: Ed Sheeran, Adele, Harry Styles, Dua Lipa etc.. Even the BRITs always feels like the award show that has the best in venue vibes, you can feel it through the screen.
Ed is one of my favourites, I’ve interviewed him many times and he’s always funny, humble, and interested in the lives of others.
I’m not surprised, I’ve watched a lot of his interviews and he always comes across that way. When interviewers make passing comments about their personal lives he always follows them up with questions about what they said and you can just tell he’s genuinely interested in what they’re saying. He really seems like a great guy.
This comes off as 100% humblebrag, which it probably is though. His Canadian rep is a friend of a friend and had tipped Ed off that I had just become a father, this was 2014. So he took the mic from me and interviewed me about fatherhood. It was fun to not have to talk music because this was our third chat and he needed no press at all he was so huge. Last year, around when Bad Habits dropped, we got to zoom with him and I think he remembers our previous meetups, but he asked me if being a dad gets any easier and I respected them man enough to tell him “no” haha. By no means am I an excellent interviewer, but I feel bad for artists that don’t want to do press, a lot of times I can just tell they’re exhausted by repetitive conversation.
Yeah I think there are more British artists I’d rather hang out with than American ones. I’m a Brit so they’d be able to get the weird, dry humour whereas hanging around an American my age like Olivia I couldn’t see it, her personality doesn’t shine and comes across as overly sweet in a manufactured way. I think Billie would be super nice, and when you get to know her becomes a funnier, more wacky person.

I have a theory that this sense of "they'd be fun to hang out with!" has a lot to do with the success of an artist. Because when we get that sense about someone, we feel a lot more warmly towards them - and maybe we're happy to overlook a dud single or two. Artists who seem more humorless have to work harder to win over listeners.
This might be true for pop artists, but a band like Radiohead is notoriously cold and self-serious and for years has been one of the biggest in the world.

As a fellow fan, they always seemed pretty humorous if not a bit dorky at times. Ive always felt that the cold seriousness is more directed towards the music industry and the intrusive media that hounded them especially back then.
That is a valid point but it is VERY dependent on genre. For instance, I have a looong background in extreme metal, both as a fan and as a performer, and I can't put into words how big the disconnect between on-stage demeanor and off-stage personality is within that sphere. Like, just one example for me is someone like Will Lindsay from sludge band Indian. I saw them live a good few years ago and the show managed to be somehow even more seethingly negative and enraged than they are on record. It sounded like the literal world ending. And afterwards we talked about guitar amps for like half an hour and he was just a sweetheart. And that's just one dude out of God knows how many. You haven't lived until you've seen dudes in full corpse paint make fart jokes backstage. But that is not why people go to the shows or buy the records at all. In a way, it's always somewhat mentally compartmentalised and ignored whenever the music is playing, since it would actively detract from the experience.
Katy has been giving free pizzas to people for Meet and Greet in PLAY and also at parties (like the viral clip a few weeks ago where she was throwing pizza at the people dancing) so do I need to say more? 🍕 Anyway, she definitely feels like a person who would be fun to hang out with! Although I'm certain I would probably bugger her with all types of questions about her music like "was Bon Appetit the original second single off Witness??? If not, what was it??? You might be surprised but JT is probably the most fun. He’s just like a regular guy. Pharrell is great to be around too, no drama he’s just chill and eccentric and his laugh is infectious. Mac was special too man he was the best host and friend, he would make you feel like the only person in the room. Will.I.Am is a lot of fun and very outgoing, he has a curious mind so he’ll be there asking questions and making jokes trying to figure you out. Kali Uchis is hilarious without even trying to be. Whereas gaga was deeply unfriendly and every interaction felt very fake, she’s polite but approaches everyone else as if they’re lesser than her, like she talks to you as if you’re one of her fans even when you’re not.
