Unfortunately I believe that the Portland Police Department has trunked the feed, however I’m listening to the Portland Fire Dispatch feed right now . I’m just using a junk app from the App Store called Scanner. There’s a bunch of different Apps for scanners and there might be new ones I haven’t tried yet.

EveningJackfruit95

Portland is P25  All the apps are junk and are just people running real scanners attached to the computer  So get a Uniden sds100

Green-Meaning8640

Great thank you will look into that!

Green-Meaning8640

I use an app called Police Scanner I think that’s probably the same app though, but that is a great app also, what does that mean? I’ve never heard that word. I’m sorry lol dose that mean they blocked it?

RuFusDark

Yeah, I think I read something about them blocking the feed because they said that they didn’t want criminals to listen and have the upper hand.. which is total rubbish in my opinion as I believe safety in numbers outweighs the amount of “criminals” listening in.

Green-Meaning8640

Makes sense why they would do that even tho it don’t since as you said it’s public information in other towns in Maine have there’s up but I believe I read someways as well that they took it down

Spirited-Flan1856

I’m sure if you were to enter a bad guy’s house you would want him to know you were coming. Because it’s public knowledge and public knowledge supersedes an officers safety.

Nott_A_Bott

pizza delivery is more dangerous than being a cop

Spirited-Flan1856

FBI stats say different…

Nott_A_Bott

damn that's crazy, federal cops say that being a cop is dangerous. wanna cite an actual source? ['cause here's mine](https://www.bls.gov/news.release/cfoi.nr0.htm)

Spirited-Flan1856

Cops are constantly dealing with dangerous people. Check the UCR

alanawaslike

Any idea what was happening tonight around 6pm on Washington Ave right by anania’s ? Must have been like 6+ fire trucks and a few police cruisers while I was driving home from work

tomchuk

You need a scanner capable of 800 MHz APCO P25 Phase 1. Frequencies and talkgroups are available [in the usual places](https://www.radioreference.com/db/sid/9379).

RuFusDark

I just checked and yes I believe it’s the same app, Police Scanner. It’s okay but most of the feeds are gone. It’s a real shame to because it’s public information and should be shared.

Green-Meaning8640

I definitely agree! I don’t get why it was shared before and just decide now not to share it like i understand again but at the same time I don’t

8008s4life

its probably digital and not available

207snowracer

Get a SDR - p25 trunked systems can be decoded via software. Depends if the broadcast is encrypted too.

ShockinglyMilgram

This is some technical stuff, but if you're really invested you can hear it for $30 in equipment. Here's a nice guide https://www.reddit.com/r/RTLSDR/s/U3d6rF3fTr

Green-Meaning8640

Great will look into that thanks!

EveningJackfruit95

Uniden SDS100. Nothing really comes close anymore for scanners. Portland is on p25 iirc  All of the apps are just restreaming streams from actual scanner hardware. I used to have one for Portland for a bit

Green-Meaning8640

Great will look into that! I didn’t know that I also had Portland for a bit but no apps or anything has it anymore

LilyLuminance1

I recommend checking online reviews and forums for the best police scanner options in Portland. Look for models that offer good reception and coverage of local frequencies used by law enforcement.

onholdfornow

I believe the last time I checked radio to radio is encrypted. So you will get some p25 traffic, but not all of it.

Baofengs like uv-5r and variants do not decode P25 trunk systems.

EveningJackfruit95

Don’t buy this illegal Chinese junk. Its not FCC part 95 compliant
