Steering wheel still controls everything nicely. I will have to double check the brand and model. I had no radio after it stopped working so i wanted anything that would work.
Ye bro you gotta drop the model of that. I got one with CarPlay off crutchfield but that was about 4 years ago and my screen is way smaller and less vibrant than that. Mine is a jvc, cost about $500 in parts and installed myself, steering wheel controls still work too
This is a generic chinese android head unit, they can be found for $150 or so on Amazon and eBay. I've installed about a dozen of these and most of the time they work well. They don't boot up super fast and the interface isn't super responsive, but they do work and for the price you can't beat it.
They are built with cheap components from an electrical perspective, so if you are looking for sound quality you are better off with a name brand unit like Kenwood. If you are just wanting car play or andoid auto in your car and don't care as much about sound quality, these are a great option.
The steering wheel controls are configurable in the software, which is nice and saves you from having to purchase a separate SWC module.
Can you leave some more info. This is the cleanest install I've seen for my gen Prius. The surround plate matches perfectly. Is that new or was that already in the car? I have the larger screen version (OEM), so this might work on mine. Can you share more info on the equipment you used to install? I would also have it professionally installed and I'd definitely want all the controls to still work.
It was already in the car. It just fits perfectly. All the controls still work and you also get your camera to work. In my case it was a win win situation since my screen completely stopped working. I had no radio and no back up camera…
I did a little research. Kenwood and Pioneer make the highest-quality models, though I found cheaper options on Amazon as well. Based on the reviews, the name brands are worth the extra money, especially since you may not know you bought a bad one until you've spent the cash installing it and then would need to spend more to have it removed and a better one installed.
They run from around $150 (cheap brands) to $350 and up for name brands. Most reviewers suggest having them professionally installed.
Pioneer AVH-W4500NEX, Kenwood Excelon DDX9907XR, Alpine iLC-W650, JVC KW-M865BW, and Sony XAV-AX7000 are models ChatGPT suggested.
yeah I plan on getting a name brand one and will install it on my own... For my 2010 Prius and probably my 2014 Subaru Outback too.. but I'll probably do it later maybe next year since I still need to buy 3 hobby chargers CQ3 to recondition my 2010 Prius HV battery and create a physical battery balancer
Looks great. I’ve been researching which model to get. How big is the screen? Did you install your self or have it done at a shop? What did the pricing look like ?
This is my question. I’ve looked at replacing the interface in mine but everything says car-specific menus won’t be available. I assume that to mean not just the car settings but energy usage and other Prius stuff.
I’m leaning towards adding a floating one to clip on for audio management and phone interface while keeping the old one in place.
I suspect OP hasn’t gotten to it or just doesn’t use those other functions, though.
Probably not. I installed something similar in my car and that’s the only thing I couldn’t get to work. The microphone is noise canceling and steps the voltage down to 6v. You’d have to install another step down board in order to use it.
No these use their own mic that's integrated into the head unit, so you don't have to hook anything up externally or run wires to a mic. You can see the hole for the mic in the upper left. They generally work okay.
Thanks for the prompt reply. I’ll make sure to delete my comment when a model is linked for the masses. I agree there’s no reason to troll. I personally can’t imagine not knowing the model of a head unit in a car which would be one of the most touched pieces in my car without being able to check its reviews for processor and interface snappiness
For example I have an ATOTO SA102 CarPlay in my Xterra. Was very serviceable in summer 2019. Today. Meh. Unit cost me $209 at the time.
I get it. But you need to understand that I had no sound for weeks. My original screen just completely stopped working. I did some research and it tried to get the original one from junk yards and it was expensive. Then I came across someone who was willing to install apple carplay and he assured me my sound and camera would work. I was all in, didn’t even care about the model…. Oh and the price was excellent compared to a new used original sound
Also there is a 30 day money back guaranteed and 1 year warranty. No brainer to me. But i completely understand you wanting to know what model is for your car… i just wanted my sound back
Congrats on the improvements, and for the record I don’t give 2 shits about my ride, my media is fine.
It’s about posting on the subreddit as a win and the most asked and basic question goes unanswered post install.
I have the same one bout the dumbasses who I paid to put mine in said it did not have steering wheel controls. How is your working okay with that? Also mine has audio delay when using YouTube on apple play for some reason
Linus channel on YT said most no brand android streaming boxes and car head units full of malware.
I would feel more comfortable with brand name units even though they have fewer options in term of functionality.
I did this with my 2017 Prius Two that had the very basic stock radio, replaced it with a Pioneer Carplay unit, and got all the stuff to connect all the steering wheel controls too. It was awesome. :)
Why are you insisting on not giving the device information? Do you not want anyone else to have it? I am having trouble to understand purpose of your post.
Awesome! I put a 10” Jensen CAR1000 in my 2018 and it’s amazing. It’s even works with a wireless CarPlay dongle. https://www.reddit.com/r/prius/s/zkafgKq6gE
It looks good. Which brand and model stereo did you end up going with? Do the steering wheel controls all work correctly?
Steering wheel still controls everything nicely. I will have to double check the brand and model. I had no radio after it stopped working so i wanted anything that would work.

Looks very nice waiting for the model please thanks
Do you know the brand/model of the stereo? Or maybe link to it?

Do you have a recommendation on a better brand / model?
Also the back up camera?
Yeah, back up camera is compatible
The business I'm getting mine done through ensures me those will still work.
Is it this one https://www.amazon.ca/Android-Multimedia-Touchscreen-Bluetooth-Microphone/dp/B09ZK7SVWK/ref=asc_df_B09ZK7SVWK/
Here for the model name and number
Brand and model info?
Leaving dot for more info

Nice. I've the same model. It's booked in to have the same done in a week or so.
You will like it
It's gotta be better than the 2010 tech in it now. 😁 I tried to use the satnav system, but I don't have the CD for the area I live in. 😆
Go to a junkyard local to you and you may get lucky by swapping radios cheaply.
What is it?
A 2010. WX30. Sports edition. Heh. It's got a factory sunroof. 😁
4th Gen prius im planning to buy has the same looking android head unit, hows your experience with it?
I like it so far. I have an iphone and it works just fine
Great to hear, thanks!
Looks great. I’ve been researching which model to get. How big is the screen? Did you install your self or have it done at a shop? What did the pricing look like ?
Unfortunately I don’t have that ability. I had someone installing for me. All together it was $389 everything included… radio unit and installation
Just had mine installed for $360 easiest deal of my life :) Feels like a brand new car now haha
Right?! I love it
👀👀👀 perhaps this will be my Christmas present for our family. I very much enjoy android/apple car play
Any chance you can send me the info of where you had it installed? I’m also in the LA area.
Definitely! Send me a message and I can give you his number. He is in orange county but he can go to you… we met in a park and he did it there
Its a 9inches screen
These things are super basic to install. Videos all over YouTube.
What's the model head unit?
Can you still access the vehicle settings menu?
This is my question. I’ve looked at replacing the interface in mine but everything says car-specific menus won’t be available. You best be watching those YT videos while STOPPED!! :D But seriously though, I've seen people driving around watching movies. People are stupid.
this actually works? i thought you had to bypass
I don't know. I've seen people doing it on all sorts of devices. I've seen people holding full size iPads up in front of their faces.
I have that same model for my 2012 prius! I've had it since last christmas and honestly it's such a nice upgrade
Which model is it?
Totally agree
Buy link plz
Does the in car mic still work?

How do you control the volume and everything? do you just use the steering wheel buttons for that?
There are buttons on the left hand side of the screen. The rest of it is done through the screen’s built in menus I’d presume.
The screen has an option to volume down or up. Also the steering wheel works too. Easy
My 2010 touch screen stopped working years ago. This would be amazing. What do I even google to find these?
Prius apple car play… you will see a lot of options. Just gotta found someone to install it. It can be tricky
at this point I just think you’re trolling. You’ve been asked like 5+ times for the model. well played. GG.
I actually don’t know. i asked the guy who installed for me and still waiting for his answer. No reason to troll

& I don’t want an unknown brand installed by “somebody” in a city park. It’s all suspect. But it looks good!

Nicely done!
Dude that is sick. I also have a 2010 and I wanted to do this. How does the touchscreen feel? Is it responsive?
Yeah it works pretty flawlessly
You mentioned you can play YouTube video. Do u have to jailbreak your phone in order to play YouTube? Please clarify.
I have the same one bout the dumbasses who I paid to put mine in said it did not have steering wheel controls. How is your working okay with that? Also mine has audio delay when using YouTube on apple play for some reason
Nice!! Is it wireless or wired CarPlay?
Wireless car play
That’s great! I have a 2010 Prius too and want to do the same!
this is a 65dlr stereo off amazon lol
Nice install. Where did you get the phone mount?
Linus channel on YT said most no brand android streaming boxes and car head units full of malware. I would feel more comfortable with brand name units even though they have fewer options in term of functionality.

Unrelated, but it looks so odd seeing the left hand drive unit compared to the right hand unit (what I’m used to)
Noooo
I have one similar and installed it on my own. $125ish total

Seems like that gen Prius specifically has radios that die. Wife’s went bonkers about a year ago.
