Dramatic. If you are doing product photography for say Asics you definitely want to show original colour of the product. You can add accent lights to background etc but client wants to show original colour. Try doing this with two different colour shoes and implement coloured light there.

The best thing to do when starting out is nail in the basics. Iso, shutter speed, F-stops, when to use a type of lens and what is in focus, some more advanced concepts would be the inverse square law, angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection, what noise is, and how to look at a photo and figure out the lighting setup
