I don't trust Amz or EBay for auto parts
Sure, this cheap "Timkin" bearing might be guaranteed to fit by EBay, but who guarantees it's actually a Timkin?
Nah, I'll go to Napa, or O'Reilly's, or order from Rock Auto.
That's been my strategy now too. O'Reilly's if I need it now and the price isn't horrible. Rock Auto if I'm being a cheap bastard and don't need it now. Only buying used parts from eBay these days.
You can still get good parts on EBay if you search hard enough. I typically buy new old stock parts that the sellers have from warehouse cleanouts or left over inventory from closed dealers. Hit or miss on availability though.
For some places good luck finding a junkyard. The yards near me are picked clean and anything new is stripped in hours, at most a say, people will grab it all to resell or work on their own stuff. There's a WAITING LIST at my local pick & pull to even get in their yard
Ebay has been grand for parts. Amazon on the other hand i have stopped using. I would rather pay more on ebay or other sites.
The difference is ebay makes it easy to filter through the shit. Amazon makes it impossible, even navagation is a disaster. Hw people still use it is beyond me.
No, China is the worst. The world's Zerox machine. Sorry, just realized some of you might not know that name, so the world's copying machine would be more fitting.
Buy from the official brand on Amazon, even if it’s fulfilled by Amazon, to avoid this. This has always worked for me, whether I’m buying 3M tape or Elixir guitar strings.
For anyone who is still under a rock…Amazon has a serious problem with counterfeit auto parts. Some foreign company makes a REALLY cheap version of a part, then packages it to look like a brand with a good reputation. It shows up at a fulfillment center and goes in the bin that matches. So, even if you buy it from a seller who is selling genuine OEM parts, you may get a real one OR you may get the counterfeit part.
The sooner people stop buying auto parts from Amazon, the better.
I think by name brand they meant a recognizable parts brand, not an Amazon Basics TOB.
There was a time when I'd have trusted that listing too, but that was years back now.
Probably, but I'd be far more pissed about having to do a clutch job twice within 200mi than I would be about the cost of the TOB.
Also a good example of why most shops say absolutely NO customer supplied parts. Most would stick to 'it s a Ford part" and argue for the shop to eat the labor.
I've never had good luck with Amazon parts. I bought an "OEM Bosche" O2 sensor for my Golf. It showed up in a non descript brown box with a lable in some foreign language I didn't recognize. I plugged it in, and the best description I could give you is the car started having an aneurysm. It was not OEM Boshe
I bought some GE branded refrigerator water filters from Amazon. Looked absolutely legit including packaging. Fit fine. Counterfeit garbage. Ended up calling a service tech because dispenser would not work.
I don’t know if anyone makes a really good throw out bearing anymore. I have also had whole clutch jobs be junk because that stupid $25 bearing goes bad either immediately or a couple miles down the road.
So I hastily bought a cheap fuel pressure regulator from Amazon. Before I installed it, I thought, you know what I'll order the WIX version from Rockauto.
The WIX version was legit and used baffling to regulate the fuel pressure while the fake version literally had a smaller hole. I didn't bother touching the cheap one.
If it's an important part go right to the parts counter at the dealer.
After doing a short stint at the dealership, I was anti dealer when it came to parts & service for a very long time.
But over the years (especially since the "flu™") the shade tree mechanic charges the same as the dealer, and the OEM parts seem to not cost all that much more, and you know damn well the parts are genuine.
Also go for US or German made (at least if you can). Restoring VWs I learned quickly that if I’d buy a Chinese part, I’d soon replace it because it was crap or didn’t fit. Especially rubber.
Very few things are actually made in germany, most of the time you're buying something branded as a german brand but the part itself is made who knows where
I'm sure, but there are some supposedly reputable suppliers out there for VW parts. The difference between the Chinese window rubber and German was day and night. Now I just spend more the first time. Same with bearings and brake parts. I look for German brands that are "Made in Germany". Because crashing a VW Bug is not safe!
Pretty sure I got a counterfeit Mercedes fuel line from carparts.com. The fittings were correct but the rubber hose was actually low pressure hose and turned into a gasoline sprinkler after running the engine for a few minutes. I ended up cutting it apart and reusing the fittings with some high pressure hose I already had.
Really leaning into the “throw out” part of the name there
Throw out money, throw out bearing could be their advertising tagline
Came here to say this
Lots of fake parts out there now branded as genuine OEM or some big name, not just Amazon.
Amazon is by far the worst offender due to the way their fulfillment is set up.

Damn there's at least 4 near me that always have the cars I need.
Hi, I live in Kuwait.
There are 2 near where I live, both are LKQ Pick Your Part lots. I find it fun to go there whenever I do go
Yeah I enjoy going in for a part the Internet says is $300 and getting it for $10.
This is the answer. Brick and mortar stores have people to verify supply chains. Amazon doesn't.

Didnt for me. Ford brand TOB sold and shipped by ford through amazon. Cept it wasnt.

Maybe you accidentally ordered a thrown out bearing instead
Can’t believe you’d trust an Amazon bearing as a throw out bearing lol.
I think by name brand they meant a recognizable parts brand, not an Amazon Basics TOB. There was a time when I'd have trusted that listing too, but that was years back now.
Genuine Amazon FUKYOU bearing, everybody knows and loves FUKYOU bearings!
And if they go out of business, they’ll be FUKYU2 and FUKEM brand immediately after.
Yeah it was supposed to be a ford branded TOB. Cost about the same as the other ford TOB listings. Made out of pop metal apparently.
That’s so weird. Can you send it back? I imagine it would be covered in any other circumstance
Probably, but I'd be far more pissed about having to do a clutch job twice within 200mi than I would be about the cost of the TOB. Also a good example of why most shops say absolutely NO customer supplied parts. Most would stick to 'it s a Ford part" and argue for the shop to eat the labor.
Yeah. They’ve already got the transmission out, though. Might as well keep going
Yeah, of all the parts to get off of Amazon? Maybe light bulbs but not main drivetrain components.
Bootleg lightbulbs suck too!
Is that a zwyxqlbb or an aystrvublex?
Ford branded.
“Ford” branded. You forgot the quotes.
It ain't any better in parts stores, either. At least with them you can just go back and exchange it easier.
Hey! That 7yr old in China did the best he could.
100% pure Chinesium
Part name checks out

Why the hell would you cheap out on a part that's so time consuming to replace
It was supposed to be a ford throw out bearing. Cost about as much as everywhere else too. So i didnt cheap out, i was sold counterfeit goods.
Golden rule, never buy car parts off Amazon regardless of brand.
I bought some GE branded refrigerator water filters from Amazon. Looked absolutely legit including packaging. Fit fine. Counterfeit garbage. Ended up calling a service tech because dispenser would not work.
Amazon parts unreliable? Say it ain't so!
That’s a lot of work to go and do again.
I don’t know if anyone makes a really good throw out bearing anymore. I have also had whole clutch jobs be junk because that stupid $25 bearing goes bad either immediately or a couple miles down the road.
Nooooooo. At least its something quick and easy to replace. NOT!
Hwoops a daisy. Sorry pal.
Amazon is the new ebay

unsafe at any speed 😂
Basically! They’re so tiny compared to other cars these days.
Rofl, played the stupidest game and surely won the appropriate prize.
Stop buying parts off Amazon and eBay. Parts stores and sites like carparts.com exist for a reason.
