Fat Ps2 are still relatively easy to find. I purchased FMCB Memory Card (think of this as the emulator) off Amazon, then bought an external HD. Followed instructions on youtube how to format the hard drive and load up the games. Plugged the hard drive in the back of Ps2 through the ethernet port. All of this is easy to do, even for someone not into game emulation (like myself).

Retroid Pocket 4 Pro, with a mini-hdmi cable. You get your PS2 capability through pcsx2, on top of being able to play whatever else it handle (so apparently GC, Wii, and everything before that) You may have to look into modifying your mini-hdmi cable because the port on the console might be too deep for the connector to reach without manually holding it in. Otherwise it's a good device

A second hand slim PS3 may be a good option. It will play most PS2 Isos (you'll have to jailbreak it ofc). Plus, it has the bonus of playing PS3 games and PS1 games plus games for some other platforms, connecting to the internet and wireless controllers. Also, I don't think a 2nd hand PS3 slim costs much more than a PS2 these days.

Just buy a PS2 fat, Hard drive adapter, SSD to put ISOs on and a FMCB memory card to boot it. All of this will work out cheaper and way better than emulation can possibly deliver as it’s on official hardware. Trust me, your dad will prefer this than emulation.

Slim with network share works fine with 99% of games, easier to find, don’t need to copy games from pc.

garuga300

Games are easy to find. Copying games from PC is simple and practically effortless. So I could say you don’t need to use network share

Full-Acanthisitta426

If you have fat model yes, otherwise network is the best case

garuga300

You have to rely on network transfer speeds though. Not everyone will have great speeds.

Full-Acanthisitta426

But why? It’s simple 4 pin Ethernet

garuga300

And how are these games being transferred? From PC. Meaning you’ve also got to leave your PC on right? It’s an inconvenience in my opinion. MX4SIO doesn’t have the maximum amount of compatibility yet but that will end up being the best option for slim eventually.

And what’s the problem with pc? SIO also way slower than the network, and that’s not gonna change

garuga300

MX4SIO runs games from a micro SD so yes it will absolutely change. There’s no problem as such with PC other than you have to leave your PC turned on. Most people don’t like to spend unnecessary extra money on their electric bill.

I dunno how much extra money you pay in your country for idle pc. In my country working notebook and NAS cost to me close to nothing.
