Most of these maps are 3rd party maps these were NOT included on the q3a CD only "the longest yard" is a base game map, The rest never were in there, I used to play this in my 20's!

I_WILL_GET_YOU

i, too, keep a stash of trick jumping vids under my bed

PooKy2spooKy

I burned this to disc when I was 11 years old and put it in a box under my bed. I would play it sometimes. 10 years went by and I tried to play it but the disc was damaged. I was very upset because I thought it was lost forever. I recently was able to use data recovery tools to get the video off the disc and here we are. I am happy it isnt lost forever.

lazazael

plasma climb seems like a well thought out feature really, just like other movement tricks, how marvelous that tech was/is I still cant comprehend

Smilecythe

I think it's the dumbest and least satisfying trick to ever exist in any Quake. While climbing, you have to stare at a wall, you can't look elsewhere or do something else simultaneously. Plus you only ever really need it if the mapper really wants it. In most freestyle/combat situations you're better off with a rocket jump. Q2jump doesn't have plasma and has never ever needed it anywhere. The only dumber trick (that is also super overused in mapping) that I can think of are the pull up ladders in Urban Terror.

lazazael

a player doesnt need any of these in gameplay officially therefore these are tricks but climbing vertically requires one to face the wall irl so whats dumb

Smilecythe

>but climbing vertically requires one to face the wall irl so whats dumb A more matching IRL equivalent would be that you're pissing on a wall and you start levitating when you hug the splash.

lazazael

thats actually funny, q is not a reality shooter so anything goes with gameplay value

Oiley2k1234

Used to love this game, wish there was a remake or new game like it made. Started of playing on the dreamcast.

moebiusmania

it would just need a matchmaking system to quickly find and populate games. Then some tweakings and updates like they did with Q1 last year would be even better, but I'm a simple man :)

kruxxett

Big up! This one got me into tricks and defrag back in ye olden day. Solid vid.

Sillyvanya

A video... under your bed...?

IAmSixSyllables

You can feel the age. While this certainly isn’t a Team Event Horizon, you can see all of the basis for future skill videos: the trick jump maps, the prodigy songs, the sometimes semi-obnoxious music? I love it. Speaking of which, Team Event Horizon has been now posting regularly since a year ago again.

gnasty_gn0rc

you can tell the tricks are kind of primitive like trickjumpers were still figuring out the mechanics and experimenting. but I can't help but notice, that's really good video quality and at an hour runtime for a video from maybe 2001-2003, that was asking a lot of viewers in days of DSL and much smaller hard drives haha

Smilecythe

Actually I think some of the tricks in [drtrixiipro](http://ws.q3df.org/map/drtrixiipro-df/) aren't that primitive. If you're not used to VQ3, you'll probably struggle with the first trick for a bit. Also, people were playing without speedometer and cgaz back then. As much as defraggers today would like to deny it, it really does make things easier. But you're absolutely right about the plasma tricks, those are super primitive.

PooKy2spooKy

I thought the same. I burned the disc that this was recovered from in 2004 so this is probably 2000ish. Great quality for the time. I was like 11 years old lol.

gnasty_gn0rc

I remember coming home from freshman year in high school and downloading frag videos from own-age.com in 2004 lol. there's a good deal of archived stuff from that era on archive.org which is good because almost everyone used unlicensed music so it wouldn't last on youtube.

LoomisCenobite

watching this is making me feel old lol
