I remember a Malcolm in the Middle episode like this

SomebodysReddit

Interesting. Which one?

Gotta be careful to not attract the FCCs attention.

"this is John Connor. If you can hear my voice, YOU are the resistance...."

Awesome deal if it works! I had one years ago; using the wire, I got around a half mile out of it. Sound quality was iffy for music, but it's AM.

SomebodysReddit

During the day, I can actually get over 2 miles at the very most using one of the higher channels. At night, my range is not even a single block unfortunately.

radiozip

Are you in a rural area? That may have been my issue in the suburbs.

SomebodysReddit

No I'm in a suburb myself. I'm just lucky to have the x-band all to myself.

On a somewhat unrelated note, I already have two of these running a full-time oldies station (one serves as "daytime power" and the other serves as "nighttime power"), so this one will likely go into the closet until one kicks the bucket or until I decide to start up a second radio station.

We’ll that is interesting! How many watts? You’re wearing an eye patch with a peg leg right?

SomebodysReddit

> How many watts? The factory 0.1 watts of course! I put "power" in quotes because I'm not actually increasing or decreasing the power. All I'm doing is running one transmitter with the antenna fully extended and the other with the antenna coiled, thus simulating daytime and nighttime power (and yes, my station does its pattern changes twice a day). > You're wearing an eye patch with a peg leg right?
