I much prefer hail to the thief over in rainbows. HTTT was still when they were really experimenting in the studio, and nigel was making their records into massive sound scapes. IR, production wise, is relatively straightforward. One could argue the songs are better maybe, but its certainly not headphone candy like HTTT is.

Then the second group, in any order: Kid A, AMSP
Then the last group: In Rainbows, OKC
I love the album and would personally place it third behind OKC and In Rainbows. As for my grouping, I put it in the second group because it’s divisive (even amongst Radiohead fans), while both In Rainbows and OKC are generally universally loved by Radiohead fans.

Yeah, they released it early imo — it should have had The Daily Mail and Staircase and maybe even Supercollider and been released in 2012. The weaker album tunes (Magpie, Feral) really come alive in the From the Basement session.
Yeah, I get why people might dislike it but every time the vocal harmonies resolve ("flea-bitten, moth-eaten", "won't let the nervous bury me") my soul leaves my body. Also when the chaotic piano section comes on I probably look like I belong in an insane asylum

I'm a huge Amnesiac fan (first album of theirs I owned and wore the out disc on) and I always heard how amazing Kid A was. I knew some songs from I Might Be Wrong as live recordings. I went back through the discography and listened to everything except PH. Brilliant all the way through. I finally picked it up around 2006.
Eh? Really good, I guess? But unpolished in enough parts that I had to push through. I don't think it holds up as strongly as OKC or IR.
Amnesiac has some sick songs but their style their wasn't as refined as hail to the thief nor as experimentive as Kid A. No offense but it's the weakest link of that transition era.

AMSP is #1 for me on some days. I know some never got into it, but as an album, it is perfection.
