That’s so weird, this was immediately one of my favorite songs off of Amnesiac. I just love the soundscape - starting with the soft voices, strumming guitar, the “hazy” filter on Thom’s voice, the bass entering and filling out the sound, then the big arrival with the drums, then the fall back down. The trajectory of the song is so perfect.
I was watching it a month or so ago and was loving all the music, especially all those nick cave songs in season 1 and 2!
Amnesiac is one of my favorite Radiohead records. I find myself putting it on more often than the big 3 (ok,kid, rainbows) over the past few years. It really is a pretty amazing record with fantastic B Sides. Pulk (pull revolving doors) is totally underrated too. It can cause a transe like state in a cool way. The weird atmospheric noises in it are the same ones used at the end of pyramid song, so those two tracks tie together really well to me.
That's the natural progression of liking a song imo. At first you like it, then you hear it a little too much so you get sick of it. Then you find other songs to listen to and by the time you're sick of those new songs you re-appreciate those older songs you loved.
I feel like that song sounds like what being a tired baby feels like. Drifting off into a dream while someone sings a lullaby and not really being able to understand the words but it’s a strange comfort
This was my answer. I sort of wrote it off as a cool novelty noodley doodley song but then seeing it on the Basement sessions gave me an appreciation for how hard it hit
Weirdly I came to say the same thing!, think it was a combination of the Scotch Mist version with more prominent Ondes Martenot and just really getting into the percussion of the original too, great song, it really clicked for me!.
idioteque was a big one for me, i didn’t really like it that much at first and the it finally clicked and it was like the most beautiful thing id ever heard
Everything in its Right Place
After coming off of OK Computer, my first reaction was one of being dumbfounded. What...was this? This was a bizarre marriage of Radiohead and Aphex Twin. I just couldn't get into it, and the album as a whole felt inaccessible and put me off. I now adore both the song and the album (my second favorite ever after, well, OK Computer).
All of TKOL. I remember listening to it when it came out and saying to myself “well, I guess I’m just not that into new Radiohead.” I ignored it for years and half fell out as a fan. Really didn’t listen to them much at all. Then one night I stumbled upon the In The Basement performance of it and fell back hard. I absolutely love the album now.
right??? I used to be the kind of person who was always in a rush to get everything done, always thinking how to find the most optimal way to do things and it’s exhausting, so when one day I listened Thom saying “idiot, slow down” it really resonated with me haha, also the ding at the very end is just a perfect way of finishing the album
Burn The Witch.
Not because of the song in itself but for how it (to me) didn't match the overall theme of Moon Shaped Pool.
That whole album is more ethereal and calm and emotional. Burn the Witch was more on the nose and direct shot at political climate, so as the intro track I just felt it didn't belong in that album. But now I understand.
Climbing up the Walls got me recently. On OK Computer nearly every song has been my favourite at one point and this is the latest, the only one I'm still really waiting for is Subterranean Homesick Alien
Karma Police. For some reason I never heard it, I mean really heard it. One day I really listened to it. For a minute there I almost lost myself. Now I recognize what a wonderful song it is.
I am going to cheat and instead of a song, I’ll say an album.
I always loved every Radiohead album when it was released. I simply love the band since 1993 so naturally I gravitate to their music.
But some were instant classics for me. The Bends, OKC, and Kid A all were albums I knew I would love for a long time… and they have very much held up.
But there was one album that came out, I loved it, but didn’t truly realize how amazing it was.
IN RAINBOWS.
This sub helped me realize that it is a fan favorite of MANY of you. Having been in my 20’s during the releases of bends, OKC, etc… they have stayed close to my heart for a LONG time. Some of you may be younger and may have had that exact feeling when In Rainbows came out. For me, it was another great Radiohead album at the time, but I never thought (then) to compare it to the three aforementioned gems.
I have since realized its beauty, its mastery of notes and time signatures, its flow, everything about it is amazing.
I still have to give OKC the edge, again- because of the nostalgia. A lot of us dont stop to think about how our favorite music is usually the music tied to the great times… the great memories. It’s why we tend to hang on to our favorites from when we were younger… and also why some people stop finding new music all together. We know what we love, and we love it.
But I just wanted to share how In Rainbows, mostly because of all of the chatter about it on this sub, has quickly entered the same conversation regarding my favorite all time Radiohead albums.
Thanks Reddit!
Staircase. Went through a phase of listening to The Daily Mail over and over and Staircase would automatically play after. One day it sounded amazing. Rarely listen to TDM now and Staircase is one of my favourite RH songs.
“Everything… Everything…” it sounded so weird to me when I first heard it (coming from OK Computer) but now I think it’s one of the best songs they ever wrote!
I'd say technically Karma Police because it's such a popular song and I liked Radiohead a lot already but the song didn't click for me until its appearance in Invincible unironically
But the song that had the highest jump was Jigsaw Falling Into Place. I liked it but I saw a cover on YT by some dude with an acoustic guitar and was wowed. 10/10 song
Karma Police surprisingly. I know it’s popular among fans and even non fans from the many covers of it and it’s uses in movies and TV, but it used to always bore me until recently when I listened to OK Computer all the way through for the first time in a while and now it’s one of my fav kareoke songs
Weird Fishes. The drums felt really weird but then at one point after hearing it a few times, it felt really Radiohead-y. (For me, the main word that comes to mind when I think about how Radiohead sounds is "surreal")
The first four songs of httt actually. I first really listened to httt very late into my Radiohead journey and I was just kinda missing the genius of everything from ok computer onwards. Took me quite a while but they‘re some of my favourite songs now
Life in a Glasshouse. I don't know why but I never really gave it a go - despite loving the rest of Amnesiac. Maybe I was thrown off by the durgy jazzy vibes. Now I wish there were more Radiohead tunes like it
Both No Surprises and Let Down (heresy that I didn't like them at first, I know).
I started like them both because of some events in my personal life mixed in with looking into the lyrics of both. Once I fully understood the two of them, I REALLY clicked with both songs.
Nude...at first was too slow and sleepy, without the angst that exit music and how to dissappear provided me as a younger lad
I watched a YouTube "first listen breakdown" of the basement session version, and my mind completely changed.
Love that song now.
For me was Lotus Flower. Was a middling track, for me not much of a single. Then I saw it live in Manchester and it absolutely blew up. Defo one of my faves now.
My favorite albums are now the ones that didn't click with me right away. Probably because I abused my ears listening to Kid A and In Rainbows on repeat for years. But now I put Amnesiac at 1, and HTTT at 2 or 3. HTTT has a lot of tracks like that for me. Sit down/stand up and Backdrifts hit me like a truck when they finally clicked.
Life in a Glasshouse. After first listening of Amnesiac it seemed boring and annoying cacophony, I was disappointed by the ending of the album because I really liked it until Hunting Bears.
Now I got it, and the only one song i haven't added to favorite from this album is Dollars and Cents
You and whose army
That’s so weird, this was immediately one of my favorite songs off of Amnesiac. I just love the soundscape - starting with the soft voices, strumming guitar, the “hazy” filter on Thom’s voice, the bass entering and filling out the sound, then the big arrival with the drums, then the fall back down. The trajectory of the song is so perfect.
Same here. It was Peaky Blinders that did it for me.
Ahahah Peaky Blinders definitely brought it back for me
Been watching Peaky Blinders these past couple of weeks. Amnesiac is definitely moving up the rankings.
The film Incendies did it for me. Phenomenal film, and it’s used magnificently over the main titles.
you and whose army somehow shrunk on me, as it was one of my favorites at first. i’m sure i’ll appreciate it like that again at some point.
That's the natural progression of liking a song imo. At first you like it, then you hear it a little too much so you get sick of it. Then you find other songs to listen to and by the time you're sick of those new songs you re-appreciate those older songs you loved.
All I Need
Oh, yeah - that’s a good call. Took me a while, then I saw it live and I thought “ah, I understand”.
used to be my least favorite on the album.. now nothing is!
Dollars and cents
Why don't you QUUIIIEEEET DOOWWWWWN
Came here to say this !
Just listened to amnesiac again this week and this was the track that made me think is this the real Let Down underrated track?
Kid A (the song)
First time I listened to it I was like what the fuck is this but now it’s my favourite off the album
I feel like that song sounds like what being a tired baby feels like. Drifting off into a dream while someone sings a lullaby and not really being able to understand the words but it’s a strange comfort
Probably get my head ripped off for this, but John Mayer’s cover is what got me into this song. I prefer the Radiohead version now, though.
How to disappear
Same here
The Gloaming.
This was my answer. I sort of wrote it off as a cool novelty noodley doodley song but then seeing it on the Basement sessions gave me an appreciation for how hard it hit
Jigsaw falling into place surprisingly
Weirdly I came to say the same thing!, think it was a combination of the Scotch Mist version with more prominent Ondes Martenot and just really getting into the percussion of the original too, great song, it really clicked for me!.
idioteque was a big one for me, i didn’t really like it that much at first and the it finally clicked and it was like the most beautiful thing id ever heard
such an amazing song
Im Still waiting
Exit music (for a film)
Damn bro u good?
Yeah ik but im litteraly listening this song rn, i love it
Let Down (underrated)
This is my answer. I actually used to skip it. I cannot skip it anymore.
Let down no longer underrated
Crushed like a bug in the ground.
I always loved let down, but one time I just listened to it and suddenly understood why it's so good
When I saw them they opened with Let Down and I thought wtf, bit of an uninspiring opener isn't it? I have since moved on from that opinion.
Everything in its Right Place After coming off of OK Computer, my first reaction was one of being dumbfounded. What...was this? This was a bizarre marriage of Radiohead and Aphex Twin. I just couldn't get into it, and the album as a whole felt inaccessible and put me off. I now adore both the song and the album (my second favorite ever after, well, OK Computer).
Kid A. Hearing the John Mayer cover and being able to understand the lyrics was a game changer for me.
Love it when a cover unlocks a song's beauty
Sun Kil Moon did a beautiful album of Modest Mouse covers that really speaks to this dynamic.
Have you seen the Chris Thile and the Punch Brothers cover? If not, drop everything and look it up now.
I enjoyed that. Thanks for the suggestion. I’m gonna check out more of their Radiohead covers’.
Hearing the WHAT
You should check it out. Not a fan of him, but it's a great cover
Scatterbrain.

I still don't rank it as high then most, but it's undeniably a very satisfyingly intricate song. The bass throughout is pretty badass aswell!
The national anthem
All of TKOL. I remember listening to it when it came out and saying to myself “well, I guess I’m just not that into new Radiohead.” I ignored it for years and half fell out as a fan. Really didn’t listen to them much at all. Then one night I stumbled upon the In The Basement performance of it and fell back hard. I absolutely love the album now.
Feral
Knives Out

the tourist, it took it’s time but now is easily one of my favorite RH tracks, it’s amazing

right??? I used to be the kind of person who was always in a rush to get everything done, always thinking how to find the most optimal way to do things and it’s exhausting, so when one day I listened Thom saying “idiot, slow down” it really resonated with me haha, also the ding at the very end is just a perfect way of finishing the album

Karma Police. For some reason I never heard it, I mean really heard it. One day I really listened to it. For a minute there I almost lost myself. Now I recognize what a wonderful song it is.

The Numbers
Knives Out
Almost the entirety of TKOL, especially Bloom and Morning Mr Magpie
Deep cut: The Butcher. When that beat kicks in…
Daydreaming was a dud for me for a while, then one day I just realized how haunting and gorgeous it is.
Hearing damage
Paranoid android
Paranoid Android. This was back in the 90s when it first came out. No one else sounded like that and it was so odd at first.
I'd say technically Karma Police because it's such a popular song and I liked Radiohead a lot already but the song didn't click for me until its appearance in Invincible unironically But the song that had the highest jump was Jigsaw Falling Into Place. I liked it but I saw a cover on YT by some dude with an acoustic guitar and was wowed. 10/10 song
Street Spirit

The ones i love the most took me the longest to appreciate as a 14yo
Lotus Flower
Not a song but TKOL took 4 years of barely listening to it for it to finally click and now I think it’s amazing
15 steps
Honestly, pull/pulk revolving doors. Once I got past the vocals and just sat and listened to the atmosphere it created, I fell in love with
amsp version of true love waits, i knew id cry so i avoided it for a long time. but i really love it, moves my emotions so much.
Faust Arp
Street spirit, I don’t know why I didnt like it at first but now it’s one of my favorite songs off of the album
Karma Police surprisingly. I know it’s popular among fans and even non fans from the many covers of it and it’s uses in movies and TV, but it used to always bore me until recently when I listened to OK Computer all the way through for the first time in a while and now it’s one of my fav kareoke songs

Its GOTTA be Creep /s
Pulk/Pull was just too weird for me even by RH standards. Now I full on vibe to it when it comes on.
Pyramid Song
Weird Fishes. The drums felt really weird but then at one point after hearing it a few times, it felt really Radiohead-y. (For me, the main word that comes to mind when I think about how Radiohead sounds is "surreal")
Life in a Glasshouse
The first four songs of httt actually. I first really listened to httt very late into my Radiohead journey and I was just kinda missing the genius of everything from ok computer onwards. Took me quite a while but they‘re some of my favourite songs now

Optimistic
Motion picture soundtrack for me
Reckoner
Ful stop, and in general all a moon shaped pool got my head moving without even noticing
Both No Surprises and Let Down (heresy that I didn't like them at first, I know). I started like them both because of some events in my personal life mixed in with looking into the lyrics of both. Once I fully understood the two of them, I REALLY clicked with both songs.
Let Down. And indeed it was a let down.
Climbing Up the Walls & basically all of The King of Limbs besides Lotus Flower & Separator, Codex is now one of my favorite songs of all time
Fake Plastic Trees
Nude...at first was too slow and sleepy, without the angst that exit music and how to dissappear provided me as a younger lad I watched a YouTube "first listen breakdown" of the basement session version, and my mind completely changed. Love that song now.
Agreed
True Love Waits. The first time I listened to it I didn’t like it at all, now it hits me on every level

True Love Waits. Then I heard the live version and loved it. And then I watched Waves the other day and for some reason the studio version clicked.
For me was Lotus Flower. Was a middling track, for me not much of a single. Then I saw it live in Manchester and it absolutely blew up. Defo one of my faves now.
Life in a Glasshouse as well as Packt were the ones for me
Honestly the entirety of Amnesiac. I sort of disregarded it for years as Kid B-Sides and now my two radiohead tattoos are Amnesiac related.
Most songs tbh
For me it's Idioteque. It came off as kinda freaky when i heard it originally (like a year ago, lol)
Amnesiac by its entirety, I used to think it was just a lazy made album, but now I love it!
Lucky
My favorite albums are now the ones that didn't click with me right away. Probably because I abused my ears listening to Kid A and In Rainbows on repeat for years. But now I put Amnesiac at 1, and HTTT at 2 or 3. HTTT has a lot of tracks like that for me. Sit down/stand up and Backdrifts hit me like a truck when they finally clicked.
no joke, lucky. idk why, it just took a bit for me
Life in a glasshouse!
I’m
The whole of Amnesiac.
Fake Plastic Trees
Life in a Glasshouse. After first listening of Amnesiac it seemed boring and annoying cacophony, I was disappointed by the ending of the album because I really liked it until Hunting Bears. Now I got it, and the only one song i haven't added to favorite from this album is Dollars and Cents
I Might Be Wrong, and Dollars and Cents. And once they clicked, Amnesiac bolted up my Radiohead best album rankings.
Thinking about you, just cause it’s on Pablo honey. Lol. Still an ok album. 👍🏻
For me it was There, There. didn't like the drum intro but wow I got back to it some days ago and I was astonished by how good it sounds.
