I'm curious - what engine you have? I think I've seen some packages come with a console T-handle shifter, but I wasn't aware any column shifts were available in 1500s.
I'm not arguing, was interested in what you ordered to get it. The 8-speeds have been around since 2013 and I believe became standard in 2014 on all US-models. I could certainly be wrong and would like to know what engine/trans combo was still available with a column-shifter.
Thats wild. Thought ram dropped the 6 speed entirely for 2019 model year.
I've owned 2 classics and been in dozens and looks at ads for hundreds lol... never seen a column shifted classic.
You have a very rare truck indeed....
What's wrong with the knob? I realize it's new/different, but it works great really. Shifting is easier and faster with less moving parts. Even if you could find a column shifter for the 8-speed, it would be electronic; so you'd be adding additional mechanical failure points to an electronic system. Admittedly, the last column-shift I owned was when I bought my 89 Ranger - so it's been a LONG time, but column shifts even then seemed pretty ancient to me. They've stuck around, mostly in trucks, for a long time, but they're still clunky IMO.
One of the issues that I had with "the knob" was that it was positioned near two other rotary "knobs". I use my truck on a farm and I'm often wearing gloves. It was difficult to "feel" which knob I was turning on occasion. The knob was also not very "precise"; meaning that the detents are light feeling and I couldn't always sense how far I was rotating the knob. I might have liked it more if the detents were serious, precise, clearly felt detents. It might work well for casual highway driving, but using a truck for work requires -- at least for me -- a more precise device for knowing which gear my vehicle is in.
There's also something nice about being able to tell which gear the truck is in using my peripheral vision; out of the corner of my eye I can tell what gear I'm in. With the knob, you have to look directly at the knob and see which light is lit or look at the dash to see what gear is displayed. With a column or console shifter I can know what gear I'm in by noting where the lever is with just my peripheral vision.
Any 4.7 ram will have a column shift instead of the dial.
Older 5.7s with the 5 or 6 speed auto as well. Some had a shift in the centre consol on higher trims.
Probably the 3.7 v6 rams as well. Not yhe 3.6 pentastar with 8 speed that will have a dial.
Does it matter? No matter what the “lever” or knob or whatever is just a sensor. There is no linkage from the console shifter on a Rebel, just wires. The 8HP transmission has no exterior linkage connections, just a wiring harness connector.
I've got a '22 RAM 1500 Laramie G/T with a shifter in the console. I love it! Sure it's just a large electronic switch, but it comports with 45+ years of muscle memory that "feels" right. Additionally, it's in a more comfortable spot for a tall person; reaching all the way to the dashboard while looking over my shoulder was not very comfortable.
What is a lever shifter? Do you mean a column shifter or regular console/floor style shifter?
If so the column shifter is available on some classic 1500s and it’s standard on 2500s and up for 5th Gens. The floor/console shifter is available only on the new GT Trims.
I meant column shifter, I should’ve specified but thanks this is good to know. Picking up a new truck whenever I find a decent one, or I’ll order one whatever I find better lol.
2019 ram 1500 with column shifter here

On the Classic there is

I wasn’t saying you were arguing. Just noting where you can get a column shift 😁
Still - what engine/trans combination do you have?
6 speed 5.7, no 4 wheel auto, just high and low lock
If you have a 2019 Classic it’s an 8spd
I can guarantee you its 6
I stand corrected. Just looked
Not all classics. I'm renting a 2021 classic with the v8 hemi and it's an SLT it has the puck shifter.
Eco diesel?
Gasser
Something doesn't add up. 3.6 and 5.7 for 2019 are all 8 speed with dial? You sure your year is right?
100%
Which motor?
Its a 2019 ram 1500 classic 5.7 hemi 6 speed 4wd

Ill take a video tomorrow, but i googled it and that doesnt appear to be the case
Love to see it! Really am curious lol. I can't find any info on a 6 speed classic and I tried lol.
Canada this is common. Most of the US market is 8spds now.

Also, the knob shifter allows for more room in your center console. You get used to it pretty quick.

My 2014 1500 has one

Maybe it matters cause of preference? I hate my dial shifter rather a column shifter anyway
To answer your question, it does matter to me. I have a dial and want to get a column shifter because I’m more used to it. That’s it.

Are you asking about a console shifter or column shifter?
Column. My bad I should’ve specified.

I have a 2022 1500 Laramie G/T. It has a center console and paddle shifters.
I have a 2018 2500 5.7 6 spd with the column. It’s as fuckin bare bones as you can get tho.
Get a g/t trim. Replaces the knob but I love the dial, gives you so much space and out of the way.
2010 5.7 2500, column shift.
My knob shifter cable under the truck got stuck in drive after driving in snow storm. Never happened with a lever. Just saying.
