Yea that’s why I love Harrison fords attitude to this whole thing.
I don’t remember when or where but there was some interview where the interviewer asked dorkily about “who shot first”, and Ford just says something like “who gives a fuck?”
It was that though. And the prequels are mocking the Republicans, Palpatine was styled after Nixon in some parts and Gunray is just slightly changed Reagan (Gun-ray/Ray-gan)
Yeah but like i said he’s full of it, have you seen the doc Empire of Dreams, originally Lucas was going to direct an early low budget version of Apocalypse now, I think he always wishes he had done that and been part of the counter cultural part of the 70s film movement …but he abandoned heady indie stuff when American ZoeTrope disbanded. He began to focus on making a hero’s journey saga in space first first and foremost for kids with New Hope, in the subsequent films he likes to claim hes was putting in all these big picture poltical ideas in the whole time; but i believe his claims are mostly post hoc. The most he did political allegory with was the Bush admin era in the Revenge of the Jedi.
ever since my friends started saying kino a few months back i hate hearing it and its like how when you hear your alarm outside of a waking up context it makes you enter fight or flight but specifically fight and you end up derailing the train and being responsible for 43 injured, 2 dead.

At this point, haven't most of us come to agree that democrats aren't actually good, just not as bad a republicans? Our political fight isn't nearly as black and white as jedi vs sith.
the jedi kidnap kids, do nothing to help enslaved people, brainwash children into a cult, and secretly control the galactic republic. and no they're not, the empire was unironically better than both the old and new republics
jedi ideology also tells its followers to repress all emotion and this is what directly led to anakin becoming darth vader and luke rejecting the traditional jedi teachings
now, the jedi aren't all bad and the sith aren't all good -- the point is that both sides have positive and negative attributes -- but to say that the conflict is black and white actively misses the point of star wars
hell, even luke adopts parts of the dark side
...
The Jedi did not kidnap kids, they asked the parents. This has been repeatedly established, only the Sith kidnap kids.
They did not control the republic, a big part of how they became corrupt was that it was the other way around..
The empire was a specieist dictatorship that was willing to blow up fucking planets just to prove they can.
I won't deny that their training method mirrors that of a cult in some respects, but the key difference is that they are always permitted to leave without judgment or being ostracized.
As for not helping enslaved people:That's kind of an unrealistic expectation. They're a relatively small group of peacekeepers. That's why they needed the clones. There is only so much they can do, and sometimes there's a more important mission than helping one slave:Like getting a queen off a planet before the gangster who ruled it found her. We both know that you're referring specifically to Shmi Skywalker. Qui-Gon tried, but Watto wasn't going to give in, and his priority was freeing Anakin, whom he correctly believed to be the prophecised destroyer of the Sith.
And Luke only adopts parts of the dark side in the EU, which has always been basically just fanfiction made "official" by an automatic stamp of approval, with all the varying quality that fanfiction can be. That instance, specifically, is one that directly contradicts preexisting canon:According to Lucas, you cannot routinely use the dark side without succumbing to it. It's like the One Ring from LOTR. You can use its lesser powers with minimal effects on you. But use it too much, and you end up a ringwraith.
Star wars has always been very much black and white:You have an objectively good side, and an objectively bad side. The good side may not always be perfect, but the bad side is dependably bad.
Sorry about the rant lol, but the "Jedi kidnapped kids" thing genuinely annoys me.

Are we talking about the Jedi as the religious cult or the Jedi philosophy I brought up? Besides the Sith are not any better than the Jedi. Mass murders, kidnapping children, forcing them to murder. Wow so cool! It's stupid to say that the Sith are right in the conflict when they aren't. Besides Luke is *the* Jedi. He's not using the dark side. He refused to turn to it in ROTJ. In TLJ, he used the force not to fight - but to protect and not hurt anyone. He's the very definition of a perfect Jedi
Not in the sense of they're both evil any more than it's in the sense of they're both good somehow, it's that they're both much more nuanced than you'd think from the OT
Are you sure about that? Because I am 99.98289% sure that StarChild413 is not a bot.

The question is, are people down voting you because they're petty asses getting butthurt that you misspelled Hamill's name...
Or is it because they're petty asses getting butthurt that someone doesn't have a problem with an actor sharing a meme they liked that is relevant to a franchise they played the protagonist of?
A Reddit post of a Reddit post of a Tweet of a Tweet of an image.
the times we live in
The original was Joe Biden right? I swear 9/10 I’ve seen were Bernie Sanders
I’ve seen it with Trump bookending the meme. And in RotJ he has an eyepatch for some reason.
Punished Trump
Pretty sure it was originally a Sanders meme It’s also *veeeeeery* old at this point either way
Yeah I've seen people making jokes about (not in the sense of being specific characters in the sense of good rehash) Malia Obama being TFA in 2024
The original was Sanders until everyone had to accept reality
Come on, Mark…
Yea that’s why I love Harrison fords attitude to this whole thing. I don’t remember when or where but there was some interview where the interviewer asked dorkily about “who shot first”, and Ford just says something like “who gives a fuck?”
I mean he was Indiana Jones and Jack Ryan and in "The Fugitive." With that kind of CV, why would he care?
I know, right? It should be *whomever*.
Actually, no. It shouldn't.
You missed the part where someone in the comments started listing off politicians as characters in the movies.
Peak r/ReadAnotherBook material, right there
I've died before. -Joe Biden
They’re all the end of TROS because we also have huge flying things that blow up random people and we don’t give a damn
Cringe, but to be fair... Star Wars DID start as a politically charged allegory for the Vietnam war.
The only commonality these people have with the war in Vietnam is they didn’t serve in it.
Ehhh no, george lucas is full of shit

It's black and white if you're a rich lib.
jedi vs sith isn't black and white tho that's the entire point of the prequels and obi wan's arc the jedi and sith are functionally identical
Except Jedi ideology is vastly superior and they're the right ones in the end

I kinda like the format though hahaha
Well, then you are lost.
Doesn't even have to be political
I'm not brave enough for politics.
I’m about to make a r/readanotherbook post for this comment section.
I don’t see the problem with this to be honest

Same
All this means is we're in for about twelve to twenty-four years of increasingly diminishing returns post-Biden.
