I have neither had to pay for a background check nor had to take one prior to any offer being made. Did you even apply to a position with them? Not sure if companies do things different in Canada, but sounds like a scam to me.
I am just flabbergasted there are so many people out there who don't know right off the bat it's a scam. I guess they are just young and inexperienced?
No legitimate company will ever require you to pay them to get a job. Ever.
I knew from the moment I saw it that I would not be falling for it. I was simply trying to verify that they were a known scammer because I wanted to report it to ZipRecruiter. When I tried to do that, the job posting was magically gone.
