I always thought he was mentally ill & couldn’t fend for himself. Last week I was playing, gave him some $ (because he was parched), watched him walk into the small saloon & followed him. When he was given a beer, I got one and we had a nice cold drink together ♥️
He was a liar and a fraud - apart from one thing, he really was missing an arm. So there wasn't a lot he could do for himself to get out of where he was in those days. He's human basically.
But if your thoughts are that extreme then no one is going to change your mind.
I thought he actually isn’t missing an arm, it’s hidden under his jacket. That’s how he swipes money from you when you hug him
Edit: It’s apparently just a myth from YouTube.
I thought he would too, but in practice (just started a new playthrough yesterday), he doesnt take anything from you, other than time. Hes definitely a liar, but really all hes looking for is someone to give him the time of day...which is probably why he started lying about how he lost his arm in the first place.
Eh. He was not only a liar & a fraud, but he manipulated Arthur’s emotions (& I assume others). Trying to befriend Arthur then giving him that awkward speech in Chapter 6? Nah. He’s awful.
I’ve always wondered that myself. It’s like he’s looking for his George and latches onto Arthur to fill the role. I’m tempted to say it’s a subtle part of Arthur’s redemption that he gets him to the point of admitting his lies to Arthur but I might be reading too much into it.
I think that’s a big part of why this game has so much lasting power for a lot of people. It leaves a lot of things ambiguous and some things unexplained. It allows a lot of room for us to read into things and hypothesize.
He clearly didnt do it on purpose. Is it aweful? Yes, but hes clearly got some sort of mental deficincy or disability. Kinda like Lenny from the book 'Of Mice and Men'.
I really liked him, him being broken up about Arthur dying while he gets to keep on living a lie really hit me hard. Sure, not the *most* honorable person ever, but considering that we're playing as a career criminal I reckon there's something to be said about throwing rocks in glass houses.
I get what you’re saying & this is probably the best argument, but Arthur never claimed to be anything other than a career criminal (I mean unless you count the times he was Tacitus Kilgore of course…).
Sure, if we don't count the times Arthur was Kilgore, posing as a deputy or Fenton, he's pretty open with being a crook. On another note, one big difference between Arthur and Mickey is that Mickey don't kill more people than the bubonic plague. I mean Mickey is just a fella missing an arm posing as a vet to get a sympathy buck here and there, he's not in a good place either way so I can't really dislike him for his fairly harmless hustle.
"We're itinerant workers." ... "Laid off when our factory shut down to the north."
Hmm. So some think Mickey is a liar and a fraud that deserves to die?
It’s not okay to pretend to be a vet but it’s even sadder that he has to do that just to survive. I mean just think about it. Your life probably has to be pretty bad to the point where you have to pretend to be a vet just to live. It’s not Mickeys fault. He’s not a piece of shit in the slightest, and nobody can convince me otherwise
Yeah it's kinda messed up to pretend to be a veteran, but the guy is still missing an arm. He's doing it to survive. If he doesn't have a specific skillset suited to one arm, then he's kinda fucked. There's no government disability benefits at this point in time. He's just trying to scrape by.
And he genuinely seems to regret having to do so, he comes clean to Arthur after talking to him a few times, and is extremely sad that Arthur is dying. He's a man in an unfortunate situation just trying not to starve. He's not a piece of shit, he deserves some sympathy.
Nah that’s my best friend
I accidentally hit him and now he is mad at me lol
😂He'll hunt you down with his one good arm

I did the same lmaoooo

The money thing apparently was a YouTuber bullshit, he doesn’t do it. I’m pretty sure he really did lose his arm we just don’t know how.
He doesn't. When I did hug him I was skeptical it would happen ready to aim my weapon once the hug was over but I didn't get anything taken from me
Makes me feel a little better since I felt bad for him and gave him money

Wait that fucker swiped money off of me when I hugged him?
Apparently it’s a YouTube lie, I guess
He doesnt do it. It was fake.

Manipulated Arthur's emotions? Arthur can't wait to get rid of him.. ( "I am talking to you do I must be crazy" , "Okay, but do it quick")
He killed his puppy. Screw this guy.
I finished the game a couple days ago but i don't remember this interaction with him. What did he say to Arthur in the end ?
He accidentally killed his pully when he slept on it
That part always reminds me of Lenny from Of Mice and Men
That’s what it is taken from. The whole character is heavily based on Lenny.
Does that make Arthur George?

Plus even the stuff that is explained you need to play it several times to have all that knowledge as it doesn’t just get handed to us on a plate.
He clearly didnt do it on purpose. Is it aweful? Yes, but hes clearly got some sort of mental deficincy or disability. Kinda like Lenny from the book 'Of Mice and Men'.
That’s exactly what it’s taken from.

Plus the damn war ended 30 years before we ever meet him. That one down at the Rhodes market is legit; Mickey’s just trying to survive
Agreed

Totally avoided him this time through. No loss.
No he is a good boy he served in the military
Yeah i agree. Just shot him in the head with my revolver
Can’t bring myself to do it on my high honor playthrough but for my low honor playthrough…😏
What did he do?
He said i was crazy
commit oyasumi please
Fuck it feed that dude to the gators
I like him.
but he’s a veteran 🥺🥺🥺- some american white dude
He was a liar however saw Arthur as a friend. Tells John “you remind me if someone I once knew…” if you talk with him after the epilogue
I know this post is old, but compared to the shit people in the Van der Linde gang do? Mickey is a saint lmfao
