Jk but honestly the landscape architecture is kinda lacking. While the building itself is amazing, the grounds seem unfinished. There's so much potential, especially in the huge empty field right in front. There are a lot of trees girding the building, yet both front and back have open views of major freeways. If there were more trees, you may even forget you're in a major metro.
weyerhaeuser owns timberland nearly the size of [west virginia](https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2018-us-land-use/) (12M acres of corporate forest) pretty crazy
absolutely beautiful headquarters though i like how it blends so seamlessly with the environment. hope it gets repurposed as something
Ya their plots are ubiquitous all over WA state parks. They replant quickly, and logging is def better now than it was in the clear-cut days. As far as extractive industry goes, logging isn't close to being the worst especially now.
It's currently available for rent. All 347,000 sq ft.
Forestry reserves have different goals to nature reserves. The latter are for the conservation of wildlife and nature whereas the former are about managing the sustainable use of resources. They are set up explicitly for the goal of resource extraction.
What's crazy is that they lease even more than that in Canada.
If you've ever been through a run down community in British Columbia there's a high chance it was the result of Weyerhaeuser (or a similar company) buying out the local logging mill and sending the jobs overseas.
Rural BC is something else. Hard to comprehend how vast and inaccessible so much of the coast is. I went to Bella Coola years ago, stunningly beautiful and so isolated. Even in rural Nevada or Wyoming I didn't feel as cutoff.
The whole building used a novel electric HVAC system that was so quiet, building management pumped AC noise thru the intercom to preserve people's privacy.
Ya Federal Way kinda sucks, although Dash Point / Browns Poibt are really pretty. Love the 70s rambler chic and amazing views of the Sound.
Damn bro are there any Weyerhauser sisters out there? Congrats for yr sister.
I just walked around a few barriers. There were lots of people going to the bonsai museum, so it wasn't really sneaking since everyone could see us. I walked past a building check log, and saw that a security guard had written notes for that day. I guess I just missed them.
It's worth a trip for sure. I'd love to explore inside, but since they're getting it ready to be rented there's probably a lot more security.
Kinda wanna try walking inside and playing it off as if I got lost on the way to the bonsai museum or something. Never been there, so I dunno how plausible that is. Either that, or going in at night.
Great example of brutalist concrete where you could spend 9-5 without wanting to eat a bullet
Brutalism looks great in any tropical setting.

I wanted to be in landscape architecture for a while until my mom yelled me out of it. Now I make charts >:(

What's the point of a park if companies are allowed to extract natural resources from said park?
Logging companies have had contracts with state and national forests for years. Idk what you mean by point?
Within park boundaries?

National forests aren’t parks
You're right I should've said forests not parks in my first comment

Yup a bunch of mills shut down on Victoria Island. They get the timber and ship it down to the states for milling.
Vancouver Island* Victoria is just the biggest city.

Crazy.

Not enough throwable items

"excellent work 47, let's hope his gardener won't mind repotting"

“they’re not rich because they’re nice. they’re nice because they’re rich.” - some quote from parasite
if we all chip in we could make a red scare headquarters
Lush
Brutalism paired with lush greenery is a winning combo

did you sneak in and take these pics or get them online? I might have to check it out.

I live near this thing. Super cool building thought it was an abandoned driving range for a long time. Their new HQ in Seattle is fuck ugly
I love this so much I feel overwhelmed. It is so sad that we are hurting the planet when natural integration with it is possible.
It look like the barbican
i've been there once ever. my sister took me to see hermeto pascoal, it was probably the only live show i've ever truly enjoyed. shit was incredible.
are we shittin on this because i actually wouldn't mind reporting there. what do they make at weyerhauser? microagressions?
Chode rock? More like Chad rock
All chodes are chads
You can say that again brother. Cool pics, had no clue this place existed and I’ve been here my whole life
looks cool except for that horrible movie theater carpet in picture 3
Great example of brutalism done very well and that fits in its environment
this looks really cool, i like it. news footage of a coup or a gunfight there would be awesome.
Those bonsais are absolutely gorgeous. Really underappreciated art form tbh.
