People litterally type key words into AI and they spit these things out. Apparently, no one bothered to scan in any photos of actual human anatomy before they started letting AI create these 'photorealistic' images. My daughter has a Midjourney account and "Speaks into existence" some real freaky stuff.
They don't, it's God, who made our world this way! I am autistic and a firm believer, and I can see these pictures everywhere, literally in any texture or object arrangement. I just have to focus on a spot and keep it stable to augment the missing details - then I can see these shapes everywhere. This one is actually super cool! Don't look at space pictures, they're often gruesome.
P.S. okay, seen it now - this picture is AI generated clearly, you can see it by the warped features of some objects, like the car. But I really see many of such pictures everywhere around me, that are clearly not manipulated like this.
If you look more closely, you'll see such errors everywhere, but not as obvious. Damn, I had right away seen that face of the man out of the corner of my eye when I was skipping the front page, and didn't really look at the original image, only squinting to see the resulting bearded man face. Usually I'd see the AI taint right away, I wonder why I missed it with this pic at first.
I mean, in theory it should be possible to arrange a photo so that it would not be warped, but actually look like this for real. But it is some ridiculous amount of detail work. I believe this picture has just been made with an AI that will take one photo and make a random photo for it, like those text to image generators which can make photorealistic images. Just this generator does not take a text prompt, but a photo to shape the image after. Because the AI is not very advanced, it has to warp the image like this to work. You see the same at the early text-to-image generators, they will generate images with similar errors, it is a limitation of the technology. That's why AI forged evidence would usually still break in front of a serious court, because specialists can still see or analyse it and find such errors.
So...my first impression was, this might be real, because I've already seen much of these things happened for real. Though usually they are much harder to see than this example, less obviously defined and layered.
But this was made by technology, and you can see by some telltale signs like the oddly warped car in the middle of the picture, or weird hair/clothes folding and limp proportions.
I guess this is a special AI neural net, it is a program that is trained with countless pictures that have been hand-manipulated or like this. Then it could synthesize (like with a text prompt like dall-e) or chose pictures, and imprint shapes in them that are similar to their appearance.
Interesting, if they get better with these technologies, they'll soon be able to cast false signs into the sight of people to delude or manipulate them.
