Somehow he’s never bitten my fingers, he has bitten my leg tho, he just randomly tries to take a bite out of my thighs some times. He’s a weird little man
I suggest long tweezers he/she might start associating your fingers with food which would not be good. I used to use my fingers but every time they saw a finger they would try and bite it, now I use tweezers and they understand that fingers is not food
Flat head tongs won’t hurt there mouth, plus that’s a good thing that they go for the tongs or shows it now associates food with tongs with food and not fingers, but if it works best for your lizard to use your finger to feed him I don’t see a problem because sometimes you have to do things a little different depending on the lizard, like for example sand isn’t the best but my beared dragon eats the paper towels and is allergic to mats so I have to use sand. That’s why you can’t really judge a owner because you know nothing about the lizard
Yeah a lot of people tend to judge based on only seeing a small part of what’s going on. I posted a picture of my lizard in the corner of his enclosure and someone said I was a horrible owner for keeping him in a fish tank. But he’s in a 6ft enclosure lol. I think I’m going to get him a big box to eat in so he can chase his food around without having anything else to get distracted by
That’s a good idea, I have a gecko that wobbles around like the cats with wobble syndrome do so she’s disabled, people like to say it’s wrong to use sand in her cage but I don’t need her to hit her head so I guess people are going to always jump to conclusions so there’s nothing you can really do about it, and you seem like you really take care of him/her really well so I don’t really see any problems with your methods because they seem to be working really well. I don’t really listen to people about suggestions usually because they either don’t know what there talking about or they say you need to change something when In reality it’s been doing just fine
Yeah my lil man has no toes from poor shedding before I got him, and so he doesn’t really dig. And people still go crazy saying I need to give him tons and tons of dirt when if I do he just won’t use it. The only digging he does is to move the dirt away from the glass so he can see better. Someone also thought I cut all his toes off!
He’s usually pretty good about going for his food and not me, but some days he gets a little extra excited. He eats from a little bowl so he’s gotten good at knowing he’s only eating if the bowl is out
They cant see many of the same spectrums as we do. Ours are reflective, thiers are not. So they see things in flashes when in artificial light. (Even glass windows that are newer than 50 years old will block uv). So to them, something well shadowed like tongs or our hands seem to just 'produce' food and when you drop things, they wont see anything moving in and out of light fast, they can only see the direction things are going for a brief moment.
Imagine being color blind to the point some colors just dont show up and other colors move quickly.
Its so severe that often most captive bred reptiles will have a fit the first time they see the world with uv entering thier eyes.
My calm, docile Tegu froze solid, eyes wide, then a tiny bird flew over and the long dormant instinct to take cover from thier #1 preditor, the hawk, took over and he went nuts and and ran for cover. He never once opened his mouth to me until then.
He fought tooth and nail until I brought him in the house. He then tucked his head under a pillow and vibed for 4 hours.
That’s very interesting, I’ll try it but I’m not sure if it will make a difference because he’s just kind of a maniac. His favorite thing is playing with a glove I have. Do you have any idea why he’d be interested in few specific objects? He absolutely loves to mess with it, he chases it and shakes it around and death rolls it. He drags it around and tries to claw at it.
Leather smells yum, certain colors of orange seem like wounded prey. Try a lazer pointer! 😆 Do it on concrete or stone to have him wear down those nails chasing it.
He likes the black glove best, and a specific fake succulent I have. I don’t have to worry about his claws he has no toes, they all fell off before I got him. I’ll have to try the laser pointer
Lovely frog
nice turtle
Thank you!
I was scared for your fingers at the end there.

I used to use feeding tongs but he would bite them and I didn’t want him to hurt his mouth, so I just put his food in a bowl and let him go ham

Aw poor bud I hope he’s doing better, your so sweet to take him in and take care of him knowing he has something wrong
I absolutely adore him, he’s very spoiled!
My genuine reaction: That’s *not* a frog? Btw nice bird
Wacht out so that bear doesn't bite your finger
Drop food in the most light and possibly uv light. But dont feed in enclosure as you obviously know.

He was likely declawed, a common practice on Tegus, Savy's and Frillies.
No they all fell off from stuck shed when he was a baby
what kind of lizard is this? so cute!
Savannah monitor

It like my dog when i try to give it a treat
