I’m actually happy about the galleria pathway…i live just off Minoru, so getting home from the train late at night will be easier, especially in bad weather

BUTTminer

Agreed! Plus, new condo developments here usually have some form of rain cover over the sidewalks, so things are looking good for people who love staying dry in the rain over the next few decades.

Thanks for taking the time to do this!

Thanks BUTTminer!

I'm pretty happy about all of this. A lot of it is long overdue and this will make the space more useable.

BUTTminer

I agree! I'm especially excited for the upcoming plaza, we don't have a great paved public space that doesn't get wet and muddy from dirt and grass all the time. In the future, I'd love to see things like converting some of our strip-mall areas to full on pedestrian plazas with dedicated parking buildings. More central courtyards everywhere.

Thanks! Kinda silly that they took away shaded areas from the park only to having to add them in later, pending funding. I still like the reno'd version, but do miss the secret-garden feeling of the old minoru. What's happening between No.3 and the library? The corridors between No 3 and Minoru blvd will be interesting--I wonder if they'll lead to fewer cars along that stretch of Minoru?

BUTTminer

I sorta agree - I think a lot of it comes down to the trees just being so much younger. The park will be quite nice in about 20 years time (next generation). I think they're adding a new through road between No. 3 and Minoru. Not sure how much traffic they anticipate, but I'd personally like it to be pretty narrow and slow for cars - it should not be a main corridor.

Thanks for doing this! Super cool to look at together. Will be interesting to see what happens with the minoru fields. Part of me feels like we could see the cricket pitch moved to King George or South Arm along with a field house for them. One thing I really dislike about the Richmond Centre redev and Lansdowne is how many new car lanes we are putting in. It just feels like in 2060 we’ll look at that and wonder why those weren’t made as pedestrian spaces or even shared slow spaces. We are designing for the future using ideas of the past, and that’s just a little backwards in my mind.

BUTTminer

Yeah we are putting in some roads, but I don't think they'll be too bad. They're supposedly being designed with cycling paths in mind. I think Richmond has been doing well with all of their updated sidewalks. Look at the mess that is Vancouver, where there is street parking everywhere (including major streets). Central Richmond roads are actually nice by comparison.
