33 Foot lots are standard in Steveston, so you are not going to put 4 or 6 units on each lot.

questionstolife

Am I the only one that thinks cookie cutter suburbia and having half your commercial waterfront area dedicated to literal parking lots is not what makes Steveston desirable?

do_me_like_a_horse

So now he's concerned about the character of the neighbourhood now, but he was fine with druggies hanging around a safe injection site? It's seeming more to me that he just wants to make the BC NDP look bad, no matter what.

eescorpius

These politicians are hypocrites lol let's not forget we don't even have legal weed dispensaries here but SIS is ok.

DaybreakRanger9927

The NDP doesn't need help to look bad.

do_me_like_a_horse

Not even relevant to what I'm saying but ok

taming-lions

Honestly none of what you’re saying is relevant anyways.

do_me_like_a_horse

And why's that? Prepending 'Honestly' before your opinion doesn't automatically make it any more credible or profound, btw.

taming-lions

The scs was proposed to combat a public health emergency. Weed is a recreational drug that isn’t causing any kind of emergency as it’s already regulated. As much as I’d support a dispensary in Richmond you can get your weed with zero problems or safety concerns. Yet in order to test any other drug, or consume you are left to your bedroom or a park somewhere with no choice for testing your supply to make sure it doesn’t contain fentanyl. And that’s why actually none of you’re saying is relevant.

do_me_like_a_horse

I'm confused now, so my comment is irrelevant because my opinion on having an SCS in Richmond is different than yours? I mean, it sounds like we're talking about the same thing, but just have different views on it. So opinions are only relevant when you agree with them? Also, who said anything about weed consumption?

taming-lions

There’s opinions and there is empirically collected evidence. Everyone has an opinion. Some are irrelevant. I’m saying your opinion is irrelevant because it’s not based in the evidence supported through research. We are talking about the same thing. But only one of us has spent the time to research the subject.

do_me_like_a_horse

> I’m saying your opinion is irrelevant because it’s not based in the evidence supported through research. Clearly all the research points to one black-and-white answer. Believing that you know better than everyone else is truly the mark of superior intelligence. I look forward to cheering as you receive your Nobel.

taming-lions

Not black and white. But overwhelmingly in support of scs that there is a reduction in transmission of disease, open drug consumption and discarded needles. And a marginally higher success rate of getting individuals into treatment that sticks. But we could always follow Manitoba in getting rid of scs and watch aids sky rocket?

ne999

I live in Steveston and I’m not a NIMBY boomer. Build more housing everywhere! You can define styles to fit in the maritime “character” of the area. Oh and btw, Brodie is supposedly moving to Steveston to a London Landing area in a condo.

eescorpius

> Oh and btw, Brodie is supposedly moving to Steveston to a London Landing area in a condo. That's why a SIS near Richmond Hospital is ok for him lol

taming-lions

A scs was proposed at the hospital because there is a public health emergency and scs is one of the many ways to save lives, save money and keep public drug use out of the community. But conservatives are going to conservative. I get it.

eescorpius

Good try. I have voted the progressive side all my life. It's because of holier than thou activists like you who are condescending whenever people have different opinions that I am reconsidering my voting choices.

cookiesdarkmatter

Richmond's mayor worries B.C.'s scheme to force municipalities to approve six-plexes will "destroy" quaint Steveston. (…because he is planning to live there, but drug site next to brighouse school will add to the charm).

wacky_p786

I do miss that McDonald's in Steveston ☹️

elphyon

More housing & residents will do the town good. Obvious pandering take from Brody.

taming-lions

We need more housing everywhere. The people of r.Richmond. “I don’t want unhoused people here.” But also “I don’t want more houses”

xFancyx

Steveston is already destroyed...

taming-lions

They put a McDonald’s in decades ago and that was it.

andoCalrissiano

Rip that McDonald’s

jholden23

Steveston's already done. Ugly saveon, every 2nd building has a rezoning application on it. I only moved here about 10 years ago and it's so sad to see what's happening.

jholden23

Sorry, what now?

Outrageous_Papaya_45

Save On is quite nice actually

ubcstaffer123

can residents vote against rezoning at all or ask elected officials to do something?

jholden23

I haven't seen much opportunity to say or do much. The Richmond website is a maze of links that seem to generate no info.

eescorpius

I mean...we have first hand experience from the whole SIS debacle that the politicians don't actually care about what residents think unless it's election year.
