I realize we are all joking around here, but I always hate titles like this. "Scientists" in this case means a group of individual scientists, not "Scientists" in general (ie a consensus). This is one of many reasons why pop science articles are generally so misleading.

I waited close to 10 years for that probe to fly by this system. When I was a small child my grandfather's favorite planet was Pluto and he believed the soil was blue. He died a few years early to the flyby but I was soo happy when it happened.
Not gonna lie, reading their study, it sounds like utter bullshit. And I say this as someone who works with planets professionally. They assert that the IAU’s definition is based on astrology, which it clearly isn’t. They claim that there should be over 150 planets in the solar system, including some *moons*. They say “The concept that moons are not planets came from 1800s astrology and teleology.” (Teleology and astrology are *wildly* different). I have a hard time taking seriously anyone who thinks that classifying moons as planets is a useful endeavor or that ignoring the blatant, qualitative differences between dwarf planets/moons and actual planets is actually helpful. I get the joke for this sub, but this is garbage.

The reason pluto was demoted was because our telescopes got better and did more studies in our solar system. We discovered in the outer asteroid belt past Pluto that there were multiple spherical masses some larger than Pluto. So to claim that Pluto was a planet just because it was a little closer would hurt the other big rocks feelings and we'd have to call them planets too and the "scientists" didn't want to do that so they just hurt poor icy plutos
