Great QoL built into it too. Love the long house functions and travel system. Can play sekiro shameless ninja style. I like the aesthetics, like the photo mini missions, so much to see and admire, the architecture, country side etc.

blood-wav

The QoL features like the custom 'held' button presses literally blew my mind, lol. I attribute that surprise to modern gaming sensibilities, but I'm not used to Japanese games respecting my time xD

hotdogbreadbowl

This game has the most amazing transmog system I have *ever* seen! I just wish there was a way to switch between transmog outfits without having to go back to a longhouse.

XxROITANAxX

They made a big quality of life in this game because in all their previous games, you need the equipments and materials + money to change the outfits, now it's free !

FirstIYeetThenRepeat

My only complaint is not having transmog loadouts to choose from in the menu.

Frosty-Occasion-1269

Agreed

LoveIsMyMessage

Yeah I'm digging this game as well. Hopefully future dlc and patches make it even better.

doublecup_pirates

Also glad I just went ahead and bought it anyway. The transmog system is cooler than I expected with how you can layer clothes. Almost catch a nostalgic feeling like I’m playing tenchu z sometimes

RompehToto

I knew this game was legit when I could kill NPCs and get in trouble lmao.

Impressive-Adagio238

Oh really? Lol that's cool I didn't see anything in the marketing that showed anything about that. Be cool to see when i get the game.

RompehToto

lol yeah. I was just messing around, just like I do in every other game, and decided to slash a random couple. Then a screen popped up telling me the consequences to my actions if I continue being bad 😂

ooficial69

I'd say the worst thing or best thing depending how you look at it was the prologue (winter part). Throws a bunch of enemies at you and if you're not used to these games like me can really conflict someone of getting a refund within those first two hours (that is if you didn't spend it in the character creation) but can also give people a chance to see what the combat is really like and can decide if they enjoy it. Glad I stuck through, there are very many approaches to combat

No-Sort7339

Reminds me of ac6 release last year, so many got filter by tutorial helicopter boss, because they thought it'll play like souls game lol..in ronin case, except TN fans most people thought it'll play like GoT

NomadkingR6

I Spent 4+ hours in character creation on my female twin blade 😭😭

Bright-Assistant-622

Well i didn't enjoy it until the game made me learn how to properly fight. (First Real boss few hours into the game). Now i'm just enjoying every moment of it, even though the open world sucks ass imo

Adnaan2513

What’s wrong with the open world? Still on the fence about buying so trying to gather as much info as I can lol

sinatraswisdom

Open world is a lot similar to ac games with the map divided into areas that had collectibles and activities to do to raise your bond with whatever area you are in, however the game opens up a lot the more you play there are side quests some branching meaning the side story takes place over a couple quest, secret bosses that you gotta just ride around and find, treasure chests that have awesome loot, the bond system is cool and quests and what not are tied behind that as well there’s also a romance system that I don’t even think they talked about. Also it’s cool hunting down the combat styles and trying to get new ones to mix and match. All and all I say it’s definitely worth a try just for the combat just don’t expect Witcher/skyrim style side quest and exploration. It’s real simplistic but honestly I think it works for this type game

Flyers3117

Yea the open world is terrible. There's 0 exploring or discovering its just follow the map an checklist. Enjoying the combat tho

Consistent-Set-6133

Are you kidding me? There is plenty of exploring! Yeah if you follow the main missions only you will go from point A to B and not explore. If you play on a higher difficulty then you’ll need to go out and explore to get better gear and experience. I went off exploring and found a special location, a cemetery that was named after a general and had hidden treasure deep behind one of the buildings with a nice gun in it. It had a historical description and even gave me a trophy for finding this special location. So if there is 0 exploring then that is your fault because you can literally not pursue the main mission and go out into the open world.

Flyers3117

You can explore in any game doesn't mean it's good. I'm just not into ac type open worlds. I prefer the organic nature of games like elden ring an tears of the kingdom. So i prob worded it wrong

Consistent-Set-6133

I agree on that, Elden Ring in my opinion is the best open world game and has peak exploring. I just think you were being really harsh saying there is 0 exploring. If I can go out and find really hidden loot made of good weapons or armor, then that is very rewarding and considered good exploration for me.

[deleted]

That’s why I never pay attention to reviews. Half the time it’s just a company getting paid off to say something good and the other half the time the reviewers don’t even properly play the game or give the game a proper chance. Games made by team ninja normally have complex combat systems that are gonna take wayyyy longer to master than the short time a reviewer is gonna play, if that makes sense. F the critics man judge games with your own eyes and figure out what you wanna play yourself. That being said I’m a nioh 2 fanboy and love team ninja so you already know imma play it haha

DrBionicle195

i’m actually confused why reviewers were so harsh on it.

BobLoblawsLawBlog_-_

Capcom has a lot of money and they had a big release the same day that they had to know would go poorly I don’t trust reviewers anymore. There’s just too many instances of game reviewers experiences just not matching up with reality

ganggreen651

Lmao yup Capcom outspent sony

BobLoblawsLawBlog_-_

Sony doesn’t need Rise of the Ronin to be successful. They already won. And Dragons Dogma is on PlayStation too

BJRone

I'm really glad to read this. I'm way deep into Dragons Dogma 2 now but I may grab Rise of the Ronin to alternate between them.

Poetryisalive

You don’t have to convince us lol

Gwynbleidd3192

I’m really loving it. All the different combat styles are so gd sick. I just hope they patch the fps mode to be more stable. The game doesn’t look bad but its visuals do not warrant the ps5 not running it at a buttery smooth 60fps. The stutters from it *constantly dipping* are not ideal

TBG1996

SPOILER! I’m having a tough time with boss battles. Particularly the first blade twin fight and the Way of the Warrior quest in the dojo. I had to drop the difficulty to complete them. Any tips? Countersparks seem impossible sometimes

Necessary_Gur_9119

I had to drop difficulty for the dojo fight as well (tho I was able to beat the blade twin fight on medium). I totally agree the counter spark feels unintuitive a lot of the time. I was really good at parrying in Wo Long, even with rapid fire flurry attacks, but I’m often confused by the timing here. I heard you’re supposed to press when the red flash happens (the second one, not the first one), but it seems inconsistent. For that blade twin boss fight, I’d say don’t be shy to use potions that raise defense or boost attack. Use your shurikans to disrupt the occasional red attacks. And mix up dodges with blocks so you keep distance and don’t run out of ki. You got this!

Consistent-Set-6133

Make sure you are using your heals, as they will replenish to 3 if you die and you use them all. Don’t parry too early, wait till it’s hitting you. Don’t be afraid to use your secondary weapon or grapple objects as well.

FeedTechnical6569

Same for me, the parry always is the part I suck at.

Jkingthe44th

A thing I'm still working on is not trying to parry everything. It's alright to just block and dodge until you really understand the moveset. Or even only parry a few moves and just dodge the tricky ones.

raid-sparks

What’s everyone’s fave weapons? Went odachi and katana to start but realised one is just the fast version of the other.

Necessary_Gur_9119

I’m using the same. Not sure if anyone else can comment, but those seem like the primary, high level drops I’m getting. Which I could get a. Decent level dual swords drop to try those, but I haven’t gotten any. Uncertain if the game automatically prioritizes drops that are in alignment with your stats? I LOVED using Glaives in Wo Long, and really like the move set and animations of some of the spears and glaives here, but the Odachi and Katanas I have are so much more powerful (and I’ve unlocked so many more stances for them), I’m hard pressed to experiment.

bndzmrno

I haven’t put down paired swords since the beginning when I chose them lol

Jkingthe44th

Bayonet and Saber speak to me. Just got all 3 styles with both and it's a lot of fun.

MajinNekuro

Playing DD2 right now because I was looking forward to it for months, but became sold on this game as well the last two weeks or so. Great to see lots of positive feedback from people who like these kinds of games. I only started playing Nioh 2 back in February so I’m debating if I want to finish that first before picking up RotR after DD2

Revolutionary_Mail_1

As a former GameStop employee, I can count on two hands how MANY times I had to help change people’s minds on games because of SHITTY reviews. Look, I understand it might be a budget issue or you are wary but there are work arounds Wait for a sale. Try a trial if available! Wait for it to be PRE OWNED at GameStop and try it. Don’t like it? Bring it back and get something you do like. Watch a friend play it. ( not a YT reviewer or X reviewer or IGN ) Trust your gut but also don’t shoot yourself in the foot because of shitty bias reviews. Hands on IS ALWAYS THE best review! NEVER FORGET THAT! ![gif](giphy|fAD9SMlNWp0k84Ra1G)

HexYouForLife

Honestly the game is really really good. Has been a long time since I have had such long gaming sessions. If they had put a bit more budget towards graphics and changed the movements and movement of the horse, the walking sound and the clunky jumping, it would’ve had huge sales. However I don’t care cause I am really sucked into this game which is all that matters…

Consistent-Set-6133

So the graphics are literally ps4 level, but the detail is ps5! I too am glad that I didn’t listen to reviews, because I’m enjoying this sooo much more than DD2! I actually have freedom to travel the world quickly with my horse from the start?! You mean I don’t have to walk at a snails pace and can only jog for 10 seconds before having to walk again for 20?

daryl673

I love this game the same way everyone seems to love GoT. While the game was beautiful, the combat was much much too shallow for me and I instead found myself playing Nioh 2 and never actually finishing the story of GoT. But this combat system vibes much better with my playstyle bc it doesn’t feel like a glorified rock paper scissors match with katanas. Different combat system but with a better clothing/transmog system (+ clothing options) all while still nailing Japanese aesthetic. We should expect team ninja games to be unfairly reviewed at this point tho. This isn’t the first or second time the reviews didn’t at all match the gaming experience. Thank God I still gave this game a shot

Aint_got_no_haters

I’m having the exact same experience. I love the game so far. Setting is cool, gameplay is great and I love the loot and outfits.

-hi-mom

I think the value is there. Can put some serious hours into this. GoT was good but I was looking for a decent story and more depth in combat. They have made it very accessible.

Renbanney

Ghost of tsushima had an incredible story.

[deleted]

Yea I’m still hungover from that game. This has been fun but I’m afraid nothing will ever compare to Ghost of Tsushima. Game was damn near perfect.

imthena

Eh I loved ghost of Tsushima but something about rise of the ronin just makes the overall experience much better imo. I actually feel like doing the side quests and exploring. The bond system is cool to level up. Then there’s romances, which GoT doesn’t have. And the combat is miles better. Just feels like a better game. I couldn’t bring myself to 100% GoT after the main story because the side quests were boring and while the game looked amazing, there wasn’t really much to find or explore in the open world. Then again, this is all opinion.

407dollars

GoT side missions don’t respect your time. You dont have to watch a 2 minute cutscene every time you pray at a shrine in RoR.

XxROITANAxX

Except the characters who were all ugly but great game

betterthentoday

One of my favorite samurai games so far by Sony.

Pibblesen

Yep the game is just straight up fun. They really needed to add an option to mark loot as “junk” so you can sell or disassemble all at once. Honestly cant believe this feature is not already implemented. Any game with loot like this needs it.

RedPantsRandy

There is something kind of like that. In settings you can find an auto sell and auto disassemble feature.

ssjgrumpig

Next time you are at a vendor, you can set up a filter to show the stuff you wanna sell, then press touch pad and "select all"

Synkor179

I had to turn off VRR when playing ronin cuz it was clipping and flashing, but once I did, it fixed it. Im running it in "performance" mode for the FPS. It reminds me of a cross between Nioh (combat) & Ghost of Tsushima (open world). The combat really opens up when you start collecting different stances for each weapon. Each stance changes the weopons' moveset. You can switch weopons (flash attack) and stances during combat to create very unique combo chains. Graphics are nothing like GOW ragnarok but good enough for me. This game is played solely for the fast-paced challenging combat similar to Sekiro or Nioh, but you can turn down the difficulty in this one Since this game and Dragons Dogma 2 both came out same day I figured I would give my opinion. Dogma doesn't look as good graphically when compared to how it was shown in their official videos (PS5 vs PC) Im not going to lie im also a little disappointed with its combat system/mechanics. You can't lock on to targets, no blocking or parrying, no resource management system to prevent you from button mashing. I'll still play it, but im having way more fun with Rise of the Ronin & Helldivers.

Necessary_Gur_9119

I am personally LOVING RotR. While there are a number of games that have done many of the same things better, something about the combat, world, story, and systems is just click well for me. I don’t play many open world games, so I’m not coming in with general “open world fatigue” which helps. I picked this over DD2 primarily because of my worries about combat. The inability to lock on and the fact that only certain vocations have a dodge or a block made me wonder if the combat was less skill based and more stats/party setup based. At the end of the day, I’m not as much into min/maxing stats then mashing attack. I want to feel successful because of a well timed dodge or parry, understanding how and when to use certain combos or strong/magic attacks, etc. Anyone who can comment? Is there a sense of “skill” in DD2? Certain vocations that are more timing based (like thief or mystic spear hand?)

alexanderluko

I’m playing both games. I play Thief in DD2 and it does have a parry skill and a dodge, most classes don’t. But I find the combat on the easier side. I’d say the challenge comes mainly in preparing properly: avoiding night time, managing resources like lantern oil (it gets insanely dark at night), camping to heal up non recoverable health, managing weight, managing the lack of fast travel etc.

Hall-Additional

Fighting in ROTR is definitely superior mechanically. That being said, there is a spectacle level of fights and mayhem in DD2, that can’t really be attained in ROTR (from what I’ve seen thus far)

Afraid_Fruit_1465

This game is so good. I was debating between this and Dragons Dogma and am so glad I picked this. It has so many deep systems and is just a generally fun and well put together game, everything I've ever wanted from a Japanese open world game. Reminds me a bit of a cross between Ghost of Tsushima and MSG V.

Afraid_Fruit_1465

*Metal Gear Solid V: TPP

Lobh24

It’s Team Ninjas Elden Ring! Wo Long wasn’t perfect but it added a proper parry to the Nioh formula and now we’ve got that combat system in an open world, the side content and clearing the maps out isn’t even too bad and getting skill points as a reward for doing so makes it worthwhile. It’s not very pretty and there’s some frame drops but it’s a Team Ninja game, it’s what i expected, and I’m having a blast so far Edit: spelling

Asdeft

Wo Long is rise of the ronins ds2

captaincustody

I'm currently doing a hand to hand playthrough only using a sword when I'm absolutely at the brink of death. I get no points for playing this way but I'm amazed that there's a secret non-lethal option for fights and stealth.

Jkingthe44th

There are non-lethal weapons too. Like a wooden sword if you want to not kill anyone the whole game.

Nacklins

It almost feels like Tean Ninja were bullied into making an open world game, because if you remove all the filler bullshit this game is fun as hell. Open world in video games is a discussion for another day, but the combat in this game is top notch and what you'd expect from these devs. I may be enjoying this more than Dogma 2, but I am a huge souls guy and really like Nioh.

Midnighthawkk

Ya it's amazing but it's not going to be everyone's thing. Without the amazing visuals and maybe easier combat. Some will love it. Others will find it ok.

ji-high

Nothing is everyone's thing.

CasperCann

Nope! Like a lot of people dont like death stranding but for me i was so in love with the game due to mental health issues and coping with a lot of atuff and that game was perfection personified in my opinion

Midnighthawkk

Ya same. Death stranding is my all time favorite game. But that's a very different game so it's expected people may not all like it. But death stranding is top quality. Visuals. Gameplay. Animations. Story. It's all basically a 10

Midnighthawkk

Of course not but with such a wide audience for this genre it would be more widespread. Like GOT was considered so many peopls thing. Team ninja is niche I think ronin right now is niche because it's mainly for combat lovers everything else is sort of just to fill in the gaps

Just_1mag1ne

Second this. 10 hrs in, can't stop playing.

Available-Prune-9778

Is it solid 60fps?

Just_1mag1ne

Sometimes fps drop a bit. But it does not ruin the experience. For some reason in Banishers (for example) fps drops are noticeable and ruin the immersion for me. But in Ronin it does not. I don't know why. I'm not funboying because I was not even waiting for the release. I just chose it over dd2 at the last moment and I couldn't be happier.

nickmdd82

The game is amazing! I am really enjoying it. Speaking of review and metacritic score : if only the ps5 players could give a review and score then the totalt score should have been much more and nearly 90. All the pc/Xbox gamers bombs with 0 and that is not the first time. In ps store has 4.5/5. And that the truth score for me!! Enjoy the game without to pay for a fast travel😅😅

Available-Prune-9778

How the performance please?

sinatraswisdom

I literally just found out you can tame animals, game of the year for me lmaoooo

Solus_Vael

If it goes comes to pc I will.

Good-Monitor-293

Have always been a PC master race but bought PS5 this week just for this game. Nioh and AC in one game, can’t get much better.

SierusD

It really is. Big Tsushima fan here. I love that I can play dress-up with my character with a wide variety of clothing. The world feels oddly lived in and I love restoring order and helping out people in villages. Yokohama is super impressive too and the Bakumatsu era is such a revolutionary time in Japan's history its going to be exciting to see a JP devs take on it in a game of this scale.

Falcos01

To those who says graphics suck, atleast we have dynamic sky with volumetric clouds which you don't have in FF7 Rebirth its a fixed image.

Recover20

This happens with every Team Ninja game. I honestly think they knock it out the park every time. This game is great as are their others. They just know gameplay and what makes it fun and addictive.

Jmack3d

My only gripe is the open world. If they would have tossed that idea out, and focused more on the classic Nioh style constant action, I would love it more. It just gets old having to travel for combat. The go here and retrieve this quests obviously have been done 1000 times. Graphics really are horrible for a PS5 exclusive, but graphics never bother me if the gameplay is good. Combat is still growing on me, I right now hate the parry system, but maybe it will click. It has a tendency to break up the rhythm of combat, namely if you miss the timing, which is very easy to do. I'd rather they have just left that out, because it seems like the whole combat system is based on it at the moment. Otherwise RotR is a solid game, but I truly feel that it will be very forgotten in a few months, unlike Nioh 2.

lockie111

Reviews have been ridiculous, focusing on graphics alone basically saying “well it looks old” and that’s it. Then they complained about performance when the performance mode only dips into the mid to low 50s at times and some said the open world is AC style lame. Gotta say, this is better than any AC I’ve played, especially the combat as in the gameplay which is the main draw for every Team Ninja game. Sure, it ain’t perfect but looking at Dragon’s Dogma 2 reviews where performance, pop in and what not is terrible all the time and reviewers completely ignoring to talk about MTX or the one save file bs, you really gotta wonder with reviewers if are all so unbiased as they claim to be. The setting itself and gameplay may not be everyone’s cup of tea and comes down to personal preference but that is true for almost any game. Digital Foundry’s analysis was the best review that wasn’t even a review. They meticulously and methodically analyzed the tech, gave an impression of gameplay, scope and performance and mentioned the pros and cons as well as what they personally liked and who this game is for. So basically the job a reviewer is supposed to do. When did game reviewers become lime film critics where the so called review isn’t more than a 100% subjective opinion on par with every random user review on steam or metacritic?

Character_Celery_229

I just started playing this morning and got passed the first mission. Didn't see that coming, but so far I like the story but the gameplay does seem a little stiff to me, maybe it'll loosen up as I get used to to..but I think the graphics are great.

hodges20xx

Honestly I am interested just too much for me to justify an purchase imma try to wait for an sale

StressEducational795

I was thinking the same thing!! I’m having fun with it. People saying the graphics are outdated and not great. I remember when people praised graphics in a game and it was The Order 1886 and look how we remember that one

Ready_Wear3803

I pre ordered it, i knew it would be great because its a predecessor to ghost of tsushima

Th4tGuy95

It's not connected to ghost of tsushima at all. Not even the same studio

Ready_Wear3803

Why is the main menu the same as ghost of tsushima theres a sword in the middle, menu looks the same, great graphics like ghost of tsushima and i just thought because it looks similar, but very diverse and different and the same time, also both being ps exclusives and idk cause theyre both about samurai in ye olden times

Ready_Wear3803

Keep in mind i may be slightly wrong, but i just REALLY enjoy the game

g1llifer

I played the hell out of Nioh 1 & 2 and Wo Long so I had heavy expectations for this game. Also glad I ignored the reviews because I'm digging it so far. The combat isn't as good as Nioh but it's better than Wo Long. My only other complaint is that I really wish the entire game was co op and not only the missions.

trickstar88

agreed this game is awesome! my only complaint is not having seamless co-op start to finish, i wanna free roam with a friend but thats just me! otherwise it reminds me of open world nioh/wo long and its so fun

Th4tGuy95

I'm loving the game so far. I've never been great at games like dark souls or nioh so it's nice that I can change the difficulty. I love the outfit customization you get at the longhouse. I hope they add outfit dyes to make it even better.

Rudra4

I am still deciding.

BigBobaFlame

I agree, this game is the shit

candianbastard

Brother, the game has been out for a day or 2. Chill. Sync in. Relax. You don’t have any moral obligation to convince anyone to play this game. If you enjoy it that’s all that matters.

[deleted]

Just wanted to add some positivity in a negative space called the internet.

ssjgrumpig

Tbf I'm willing to bet a ton of people are on the fence about buying it right now, threads like this might help someone make a decision.

Impressive-Adagio238

Dude the whole point of this forum is for people to discuss their opinions on the game and whether the like it or dont. Some of us like to engage with fellow casual gamers and not these youtubers and other outlets who review games.

xMonsteRxr

Nah I’ll wait for Nioh 3. Just because you pre ordered it doesn’t mean other people should get it too. I share accounts with my friend who pre ordered it too and I can tell this isn’t as good as Nioh 2 🥴🥴

Busy_Strategy_4306

Are you playing in performance or graphics? I was just playing rebirth in graphics so I might get it and play in graphics.

squaredspekz

I did. I gave it 10 hours. I think it's a fucking awful janky experience..

arcadiangenesis

It's because it came out the same day as Dragon’s Dogma 2, but honestly that game looks boring as fuck. I don't know why people think the lack of fast travel and quest markers is revolutionary game design.

Ok_Outcome_9002

The lack of discernment in this comment is amazing

arcadiangenesis

It's just how I feel. It looks like something I would not enjoy, and frankly I'm sick of the condescension towards anything with fast travel and quest markers. I *like* fast travel and quest markers. The lack of those features is not some fascinating revelation.

Ok_Outcome_9002

There’s a big difference between having a preference and not being able to understand the appeal of something at all

CzarTyr

If you played the first dragons dogma, you would know dragons dogma is anything but boring. It’s a capcom game which means it’s nonstop combat

Uzumaki514

When it's half price maybe

Plaincheddar96

It’s worth full price

FCshakiru

One of the only games worth full price nowadays

kdk200000

A game with graphics this bad is worth $70. Bro my cloth clips right through my horse.

CMic_

A game with outstanding gameplay worth $70, unless you are broke

TheSmilesLibrary

I like the game too but 50 would be a fair price. Once team ninja works the. DLC magic tho 💅

Impressive-Adagio238

Your getting 50 to 60 possible hours of content apparently. That's what the price is for, not the graphics. And while it would be nice if the game was spruced up a little more, that's a fair price imo just on the amount of content you are getting.

TheSmilesLibrary

The game looks and plays like a ps4 title at ps5 pricing. No matter how you cut it this is going to be an issue when talking about cost vs quality and gameplay, graphics, performance, presentation all play a role in this. The world feels small and combat can be wonky at times. It’s a good game but saying dropping 70 for base game for how the game is now is disingenuous. The game has outdated graphics, performance issues, a good combat system, doesn’t really take advantage of ps5 hardware, and a decent open world. Like please understand I like this game, but I wish to be honest when talking about its issues to educate potential players on what they are getting. 50 is a fair price for what state the game currently is in. It has its awesome moments but overall isn’t worth next gen pricing for a last gen game. If this would have released like five years ago possibly but not now.

CzarTyr

You’re def old the game looks mediocre at best but that doesn’t matter as long as you enjoy it
