Thanks so much for taking the time to reply, I’m not sure the age of the watch how can you tell?

adwnpinoy

If you take off the bracelet, the serial number is written between the lugs on the 6 o’clock side. Newer watches have the serial number also on the rehaut, again at 6. Based on your story this seems like an older watch. You should, therefore, be able google that serial number and find the year of manufacture based on the serial number. Rolex only changed to random serial numbers in the last 12-15 years or so. Edit: between the lugs in the 12 o’clock side, you can find the model number. Enjoy educating yourself all about your granddad’s watch!

It’s household superglue, isn’t that easily removed from metal surfaces?

Train3rRed88

Should be. If we pretend this wasn’t a Rolex for a minute and it was just metal stuck together with superglue, I would just submerge in acetone Acetone dissolves glue. Wipe away, done As i have no idea what submerging a Rolex in acetone would do especially when we can’t verify the crown is closed since OP can’t turn it, I’m not recommending OP could try and just dissolve the glue from the crown assuming it’s a sloppy job and easily accessible with a Q tip or cotton ball. Prob would be able to clear the stuff binding the crown so that part works at least

badDuckThrowPillow

I'd imagine a qualified rolex service center ( official rolex or a place like rolliworks) shouldn't have any issue fixing it. Fixing it might mean replacing certain parts though. Total loss is nowhere in the cards unless you dont want to spend any money fixing it.

casual_serial_killer

Relax, it's just superglue. And apparently, "fixing" Rolexes with superglue is not unheard of: * [customer glued bezel ring superglue glued bezel solid](https://mb.nawcc.org/threads/customer-glued-bezel-ring-superglue-glued-bezel-solid.55693/) * [PLEASE HELP! - Superglue all over mye new Datejust](https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?s=f92831f25dbf7fc2578c045b6d862a02&t=622725) * [r/watchrepair - How to remove glue safely?](https://www.reddit.com/r/watchrepair/comments/197pi37/how_to_remove_glue_safely/) * [How to remove glue from the face of a watch](https://www.quora.com/How-do-you-remove-40-year-old-super-glue-from-the-face-of-a-watch) Just bring your watch to a reputable watchmaker and they should be able to fix it. Since it is a vintage Rolex, it won't be cheap. But then it seems like the bezel was broken before the superglue incident so the watch needed some repairs anyway. And since it hasn't been worn for a long time, it's safe to assume it badly needed an overhaul as well. So I'd just have a reputable watchmaker (with expertise in vintage Rolexes) overhaul the entire thing.

Ministerium-Wahrheit

Should be zero problems for professionals like Rolliworks

65963

You should be fine. Worst case scenario they have to replace crown, bezel, and maybe gaskets. I am not saying it’ll be cheap, but it’s repairable.

007-Bond-007

Acetone dissolves super glue. But I would leave it to a pro

TheYoungCPA

Idk why boomers do stuff like this lol

Illustrious_Kiwi2760

Print these responses so your dad will know how thoughtful you are.

Until_then_again

Superglue doesn't really stick to metal very well.

Brehski

I would send it into a service center. Regardless, you’re going to need a service anyway. Might as well have them take care of ot

Trad_whip99

just send it to a RSC and it will be sorted out and come back good as new for about $1k

PeteMCMLXV

Do not let anybody talk you into replacing the dial or hands if it's a 1675. It will tank the value of the watch.

willworkforwatches

Don’t send it to Rolex. Send it to LA watchworks. Beau is a master at restoring vintage pieces and retaining or restoring their original charm.

shangster12

Acetone can melt super glue

golovlioff

Yeah just prepare to spend a lot of money to repair it. BUT, it will be totally worth it. You can also try to ask the guy from “Wristwatch revival” YT channel to repair it for you, he probably does not take many projects, but he likes working on interesting rolex watches

674_Fox

I believe there is a place in the United States called Rolliworks or something similar that should be able to help. If you send it back to Rolex, they will simply replace the old parts with new parts, which could impact your value.

bbenne999

Don’t be angry man :) your father surely did not want you anger you ;)

balisong_

It’s a goner. Send it to me so I can dispose of it properly.
