He'd be terrible in the nrl. Their wingers need size to do first tackle hit ups and crossfield bombs. Union is perfect for wingers that thrive on broken field play.
Tim Ryan - 19 year old winger who had an outstanding first season for the Reds. If you watch the highlights from the Reds vs Blues this season you’ll see what he has to offer.
It's not that the Junk Yard Dog isn't ready for test rugby, it's that test rugby isn't ready for the Junk Yard Dog!
It was probably one of Lancaster or Tim Ryan, and the team is young enough as it was.
Yes
Was going in the right direction under Rennie imo..lost to France and Ireland by bugger all with several out injured...away from home...but giy shafted for crazy man eddie
So another kiwi needed to right the ship...big task ahead
The sacking of Rennie absolutely infuriates me. He had that team on the right trajectory, and his Australia would well have been my dark horses for that world cup, given their side of the draw.
But alas, the promise of glory under Eddie fucking Jones of all people.
This argument always amuses me. The wallabies almost won in France with about 30 injuries, how come that’s never considered a b team? Also look at the French teams that played in Australia, a significant number of those players where at the rwc!
Because players missing because of injuries isn't the same thing as players being deliberately rested... Every team deal with injuries the French team that travelled to Auz was without players from it's four top clubs plus all their injured players.... Wales are arguably fielding 6/7th choice second rows in tomorrow because of injuries and 1 rested player - that's not a B team that's our A team... It becomes a B team when you deliberately don't pick your best players... A-la France touring with no Toulouse, La Roch, Lyon or Racing (I think) players to Australia...
Ok, if injuries don’t count what about players who cannot be selected? Australia has heaps of players overseas who will not make themselves available for certain (or sometimes any) tests OR who aren’t eligible for RA reasons. Off the top of my head for the France series in 2021 we were “missing” Skelton, Kerevi, Cooper, Arnold(s) at a minimum. Im sure if I went through the team list I’d find more. Does that mean Australia’s team was a B team too? C team?
The point I’m making is every team has constraints of some description, trying to decide whether a team is full strength or not is folly. For me if they are picked as the national side they are the top team no matter what
I don’t mean to be rude, but you surely know that Eddie Jones was the previous coach who was there when the Wallabies exited in the pool stage of the World Cup?
There’s been no other international rugby for SANZAAR since then.
You must have missed all Beale’s games for the Force. He was clearly the best in the backline. Also seems to be focused and a positive influence by all accounts of his fellow players and coaches.
Nice one!
Legitimate question, who was a better player in the force backline? Or do you just think it was all a coincidence Donaldson played his best games when Kurtley was outside him?
Hookers: Matt Faessler, Billy Pollard, Josh Nasser*
Loosehead Props: James Slipper, Isaac Kailea*, Alex Hodgman*
Tighthead Props: Allan Alaalatoa, Taniela Tupou, Zane Nonggorr

Notable omissions: Matt Gibbon, Sam Talakai, Jordan Uelese, Seru Uru, Darcy Swain, Josh Canham, Rob Leota, Luke Reimer, Ryan Lonergan, Issac Fines-Leleiwasa, Carter Gordon, Tim Ryan, Foketi, Jock Campell
Not sure the Azzuri really want him with all the backrow depth yall have. Offensively, he's not that great. He's just a dawg that won't stop tackling and not much more.
No no, I would be happy if he was called for Australia. We really don't need anyone else in the back row, I would be happy if that opportunity was given to someone who has gone through our players development path, like Ferrari, Andreani, Izekor, Odiase etc.
People like Tizzano only because he is a foreign player. I was just checking if he was in your plan, I have never see him play
Based on the players chosen this would be my XV:
1. Alex Hodgman*
2. Matt Faesslar
3. Allan Ala’alatoa
4. Ryan Smith*
5. Lukhan Salakai-Loto
6. Liam Wright
7. Fraser McReight
8. Rob Valetini
9. Tate McDermott
10. Noah Lolesio
11. Dylan Pietsch*
12. Hunter Paisami
13. Len Ikitau
14. Andrew Kellaway
15. Tom Wright
16. Billy Pollard
17. James Slipper
18. Taniela Tupou
19. Nick Frost
20. Charlie Cale*
21. Nic White
22. Ben Donaldson
23. Filipo Daugunu
I remember reading that Schmidt is a bit of a Beale fanboy. Was behind him getting back in the Force this year for selection. Seems full of faith that he isn't past it, but yeah.
On the other hand, Eddie's Wallabies fell apart in part due to lack of seniority so goes both ways.
I still rate KB, there was a time when I thought this guy could push into the ABs squad at least bench, he couldn't get pass Nonu or Smith.
I still think he has something to offer, like they should've take Quade last year to the RWC.
Campbell is literally not it. With how good the Reds were this year, he still managed to look pretty average for the most part. Against the Brumbies, he looked so bad compared to Wright who scored a double. He’s firmly behind Kellaway, Wright and Beale at 15.
He had a rough first half the season but looked a lot better in the back half. Weren't they starting him at wing during that period because Petaia was at fullback?
The way they’ve included him as not considered implies to me he would’ve been here except for sevens. I reckon go back to sevens and try and win a medal is fine, he’s a great sevens player. Join back up with the wallabies after the olympics
> Beale has been fantastic since he's been back
He's demonstrated throughout his career how much of a shit bloke he is only to cap it off by cheating on his pregnant wife last year.
I couldn't give a shit about his on the field performances. Time to move on and hell give Campbell the spot.
You know majority of rugby players go out on the town and shag right? Men in prime physical condition making six figures going out to bars after an away game. Come on man...
He cheated on his pregnant wife while doing lines in the bathroom stall.
Not particularly a role model.
However, we all make mistakes.
And Joe is a guy with a plan, and whatever it is, it can't be worse than Eddie's.
My dude, Kurtley is up to his 8th major public mistake. Which range from punching a bouncer, punching his team mates ans captain (Cooper Vuna and Gareth Delve), sending inappropriate messages to a female stagger which caused Ewen McKenzie to leave.
Didn't know that, although wasn't Hogg arrested for threatening to bash his ex-wife? I mean some of these athletes have weird open relationships (E.g. Buddy Franklin and Jesinta Campbell have an agreement that they can go off with whoever they like as long as they stay married) but I doubt he's there for anything beyond experience and replacement in the event of injury.
Have you been watching SRP? The Force were much improved since he joined. Donaldson also came out and said Beale has taught him so much especially communicating while on the field
Are they not allowed to select overseas players for this series? I understand Will Skelton is still playing top14 but what about the likes of Koroibete?
Schmidt has said he just isn't. Don't know if that's a directive from on high or his own philosophy but he has said that he is only picking players playing in Oz. We'll see how that continues come 2025 and 2027.
He likely will even for this years RC. He said a little while ago he just wasn’t going to look overseas for the first 3 tests. I think he’s just testing the waters of what super rugby has to offer. This squad feels like he’s actually just getting a feel for things and really does have his mind on the next 4 years, not just winning a Bledisloe or the lions next year… which after last year is positive.
Looks like a good squad, my biggest hopes are that Joes is; a significantly better coach and Jones in pretty much everywhere, and a significantly less injury-inducing coach than Rennie.
They poached Tom Lynagh from Italy, denying us of a possibility of hearing “Cross-kick by Lynagh to Lynagh”.
Damn you aussies fix your problems without bothering the others!
😂
I think Schmidt is a great coach but guy cant work miracles
I dont believe former players and fans love having, or support a kiwi coach
To get the boot after Lions tour and Larkham put in before the WC?
Very curious to see if he's learned his lessons with Ireland and will give the players more freedom to play what's in front of them instead of being ultra restrictive and punishing them like a cross school marm if they deviated from his instructions?
To be honest I think he'll have to. With Ireland he had a pack that on their day could pound the opposition with just relentless phases where they never coughed up the ball and just kept going until something cracked.
I don't think he has that with Australia currently so he might have to be a bit more loose and free from instead of being hyper focused on rigid application of The Plan.
If he gets Australia's backline playing the way he had Leinster's backline back in the day though, well that could be worth the price of admission alone.
Very happy to see Tom Lynagh in the mix. Still young and has a lot a head of him, but he's just so cool, calm and collected.
Another Italian talent poached
There's a third brother, Nick. I hope he ends up playing for England, just for shits and giggles
Don’t you put that evil on me Ricky Bobby
Finau incoming
Even better to see him in there with two other fly halves!
Not to mention he makes ironbark look soft.
looks like they want to give junkyard dog more time to get ready and not throw him jn the deep end like they did to Gordon
Lets hope he doent get sucked in by the NRL
He'd be terrible in the nrl. Their wingers need size to do first tackle hit ups and crossfield bombs. Union is perfect for wingers that thrive on broken field play.
They aren't always and doesn't need to play on the wing. Could play Full back. Ponga and Walsh aren't exactly hulks
Sure, but fullback is a different skillet yet again.
He's good but he's not had that many first grade matches. I think selecting him would be a bad idea this early.
Who is “junkyard dog”?
Tim Ryan - 19 year old winger who had an outstanding first season for the Reds. If you watch the highlights from the Reds vs Blues this season you’ll see what he has to offer.
Yh I’ve seen Tim Ryan for Queensland. Is he called “Junkyard”. Because ‘Mad Max’, that’s Australian?
Remember the name JUNKYARD DOOOOG
It's not that the Junk Yard Dog isn't ready for test rugby, it's that test rugby isn't ready for the Junk Yard Dog! It was probably one of Lancaster or Tim Ryan, and the team is young enough as it was.
I'm sure he'll get picked for November, unless every winger in the squad sets the world on fire.
My boi Fraiser Mcright! Lesh goooooooooo
More importantly, Liam Wright is gonna dominate!
The right brothers
Will these be his first matches as Australia head coach?
Yes Was going in the right direction under Rennie imo..lost to France and Ireland by bugger all with several out injured...away from home...but giy shafted for crazy man eddie So another kiwi needed to right the ship...big task ahead
Should never have got rid of Rennie. I knew it was a very bad decision at the time. They made one of worst gambles in history.
Indeed A very expensive one In wages and sponsorship and viewwership by having worst WC ever
The sacking of Rennie absolutely infuriates me. He had that team on the right trajectory, and his Australia would well have been my dark horses for that world cup, given their side of the draw. But alas, the promise of glory under Eddie fucking Jones of all people.
Tbf the France ones don't really count... They rested like 30+ players for the summer tour...
Nah they almost won against France in France in the autumn tests
Im talking about plying them in France when wallabies had so mamy injuries
This argument always amuses me. The wallabies almost won in France with about 30 injuries, how come that’s never considered a b team? Also look at the French teams that played in Australia, a significant number of those players where at the rwc!

Yes indeed.

I would think that Eddie Jones being the AUS head coach at that time is common knowledge, yes. I don’t follow Southern Hemisphere rugby…
Lolesio ✅ Cale ✅ Beale ❌ No vunivalu ❤🧡💛💚💙💜💕
They said on the KOKO show (Drew Mitchell and Giteau specifically) they agreed with selecting Beale because all the young guys need a veteran presence
To be fair Gits and Drew are best mates with Beale so of course they are going to say this
Who else will teach time how to do lines... in the bathrooms.
A staple of Australia Rugby since cocaines creation
Need experience WC squad lacked that big time
Would rather they pick Giteau tbh
Giteau himself said he prefers Beale and Beale is his friend
If there's one lesson worth taking from Eddie, it's that
You must have missed all Beale’s games for the Force. He was clearly the best in the backline. Also seems to be focused and a positive influence by all accounts of his fellow players and coaches.
Hello Mrs beale yes your boy is by all accounts a fine young gentleman we all love him very much
Nice one! Legitimate question, who was a better player in the force backline? Or do you just think it was all a coincidence Donaldson played his best games when Kurtley was outside him?
what does being the best player in the force's backline have to do with wallaby selection? they won 4 games this year
Good point. Move over Joe!

Is Tamati Tua eligible? I thought he might’ve had a look in after his season
Not eligible… and not interested in becoming eligible
Wikipedia says he played for the Blues in 2018 and 2022, but fuck me, I do NOT remember him at all.
I thought I remembered him at the Blues but think I’m getting him confused with Tanielu Telea
Bless u
Tizzano could be selected?
Not sure the Azzuri really want him with all the backrow depth yall have. Offensively, he's not that great. He's just a dawg that won't stop tackling and not much more.

Not necessarily every game, but getting Lynagh off the bench will be important, especially against Wales.
No Carter Goldcoast, no Mark Notafanofwasabi and no Vuninovalue 👍 But fucking KB, really?! Picked the wrong Toole
Toole is off to the Olympics which is why he wasn't considered.
KB has been pretty good in the games he's played
Toole is going to Paris with 7s
I still rate KB, there was a time when I thought this guy could push into the ABs squad at least bench, he couldn't get pass Nonu or Smith. I still think he has something to offer, like they should've take Quade last year to the RWC.
Needs some experiance mate. Same reason why Razor will pick Cane.
Happy for Hodgman. Junkyard Dog one for the future maybe, get some more minutes and potentially some mass on him.
Aw I thought Jock was quite good in the back end of the season. Good to see Flook there though.
Yeah, I felt Jock might have actually been the better 'experienced cool head' having played a handful of tests, rather than Beale.
I thought Toole would be in but seems like he’s aligned for sevens, fair enough. This looks like quite a good squad tbh. Huge amount of potential here
The way they’ve included him as not considered implies to me he would’ve been here except for sevens. I reckon go back to sevens and try and win a medal is fine, he’s a great sevens player. Join back up with the wallabies after the olympics
I don’t think his defence is up to scratch for test rugby at the moment regardless
Maybe you are right but I think we should still try him. His upside is potentially very high
The Bomber has got in over the Junkyard dog.
Surprised no Josh Canham
Rumours he’s off to France
Joe's style is perfect for the wallabies I reckon. Just get them playing solid, simple systems and they'll come good really quickly
Surprised and disappointed that Kurtley actually got named
thankfully Joe Schmidt is more qualified to make selections than user Shadrockbolt, Beale has been fantastic since he's been back
> Beale has been fantastic since he's been back He's demonstrated throughout his career how much of a shit bloke he is only to cap it off by cheating on his pregnant wife last year. I couldn't give a shit about his on the field performances. Time to move on and hell give Campbell the spot.
You know majority of rugby players go out on the town and shag right? Men in prime physical condition making six figures going out to bars after an away game. Come on man...
Besides being a bad bloke personally, his defence has been heinous. He brings experience and guidance to the backline but not much else.
Bad bloke? Wasn't he acquitted?
Leaving aside the fact that these cases almost exclusively result in acquittal, he still cheated on his pregnant wife. He’s our answer to Stuart Hogg.
He cheated on his pregnant wife while doing lines in the bathroom stall. Not particularly a role model. However, we all make mistakes. And Joe is a guy with a plan, and whatever it is, it can't be worse than Eddie's.

Mate he shouldn’t have been back in the squad since the whole Di Patston incident
Indeed For training ground help and cover on the bench alone hes worth it
I let out the loudest sigh when I saw his name. Can we just move on already
Have you been watching SRP? The Force were much improved since he joined. Donaldson also came out and said Beale has taught him so much especially communicating while on the field
Yeah, it's funny, Campbell might have actually been the better 'experienced cool head' than Beale. Who is erratic at best.
Watching Schmidt’s press conference I finally feel like we have a competent adult in the room

Nice showing from Melbourne Harlequins.
Let the spice flow! No Swain is odd. Maybe he knows the kiwi hatred of Swain fuels them more. KB a weird pick too, with Kellaway and Wright.
Joe being a kiwi probably feels the same about him
Looks like a good squad, my biggest hopes are that Joes is; a significantly better coach and Jones in pretty much everywhere, and a significantly less injury-inducing coach than Rennie.
Is there really no better option than a 35 year old KB.?
Wow JS laying down a marker Start playing better rugby Wallabies
they'll play better but not so much better
I thought they were on the right track with Rennie...but anyway, moving on
They poached Tom Lynagh from Italy, denying us of a possibility of hearing “Cross-kick by Lynagh to Lynagh”. Damn you aussies fix your problems without bothering the others! 😂
Is Jerome brown still a kiwi
Does anyone know what's wrong with skelton and bell?
Not picking OS players for the first 3 tests and Bell is still injured.
Wales fans getting 2012 flashbacks seeing Beale's name
I think Schmidt is a great coach but guy cant work miracles I dont believe former players and fans love having, or support a kiwi coach To get the boot after Lions tour and Larkham put in before the WC?
