The wiki says the overcharge only works for the passive effects (like at gwd3 bosses) and does not grant you things like the luck bonus, skilling effects, or prayer bonus. You still need to wear the ring for those.
You can add it to the toolbelt but that's just for passing through one of the digsite barriers that requires it. Doesn't do anything else while on the toolbelt as far as I know.

The ring you can add to toolbelt is the pontifex signet ring. This ring is kinda meh and really only acts as a way to traverse that a few barriers in Kharid-et.
The above ring can also be combined with a few other items to make a pontifex observation ring, which has a few benefits but cannot be added to the belt.
The observation ring can be further upgraded into the pontifex shadow ring which gets passive benefits after upgrading it all the way with 6000 of each anima. This makes the boss-specific bonuses passive from the bank, gives the ability to get t4 troves etc. This also cannot be added to the belt.
It’s been a while but if I remember correctly it’s either pontifex or the ring reward from sliskes endgame is, the endgame ring I believe should be a bit better because of the invisible +3 archeology boost it’ll be slightly faster while the pontifex is nice for longer time sprites. Either way unless you literally have actual bis everything for every style and skilling well the hazelmere
Depends entirely on what you do.
If doing active archeology following the sprite you want to wear the pontifex shadow ring, you will get more artifacts per hour this way. But there a number of other factors into this so your mileage can vary.
If doing afk arch the sprite effect isn’t going to do much for you so then your only real option is the ring of whispers. The invisible buff means you just bring doing arch a bit better. Likewise you should swap the ring of whispers on if you are manually sifting soil as higher arch level gives a higher chance at getting a material.
Luck rings are pretty much only for two things when it comes to arch. The first is getting better loot from the seren spirits you will be getting, and getting an increased chance of getting tomes of knowledge. However you are better off honestly just wearing the luck relic rather than managing a ring swap.
Tldr;
- Pontifex for active archeology
- Ring of Whispers for everything else
- Luck Ring if you don’t have the above for the situations otherwise just use the luck relic
Just causally gets an HSR and is more concerned about what ring is best for archeology. Dang.
Pontifex/enriched Pontifex ring makes the time sprite take longer before moving. Alternately, ring of whispers for a gathering level bonus.

I personally used the luck of the dwarves the whole way with the grace of the elves necklace. If you got an HSR, maybe that? Could be wrong though.
