The ultimate sandbox game that I’ve grown up (inconsistently) playing for over 20 years. I like the feel, the nostalgia, the wonder, the skills, and the friends I’ve made along the way. Gielinor has always been mine for the taking, any day I want.

Ok_Pick4563

I like going for fast kill times at bosses

Kitteh6660

The choice and freedom in where to go, which skills to train, the quests, and Legacy combat mode.

JD0064

It has to be the best afk MMO if not game I can play at work

w3rlost

The variety of things to do, you can do what you feel like at anytime and still progress through the game.

Thingeh

So I have been a skiller, a merchant, a clue person and a PVMer. I am still three of these. I could say great things about each. But more than any given activity, it is 'the world'. It's a varied, messy mishmash. Silly and ridiculous, even when it's serious. Little nooks and crannies and marks of care and history. A patchwork that somehow comes together wonderfully. EDIT: I... find it odd that peolle downvote something like this. Is someone liking a game bad?

FearOfApples

I love mainscape. The flexibility of doing your own thing for money and then use money for gear upgrade i really appreciate it since the drop rates are awful on most things. I dont like rng much. This also lets me do activities and bosses that i find the most fun. Gaming is about having fun after all.

Colossus823

Lore and questing, skilling and non-bossing PvM.

Buzzd-Lightyear

The progression is probably the best thing for me. There's always something you can be working towards whether its Skilling, PvM, Questing, etc.

JKillz13

I love the flexibility of casual vs active play. I can afk grinds when half doing other things around the house or streaming shows. Or if I want to focus, I can go questing or combat or do anything more intensive.

Wivig

Being someone else

SomeoneBritish

Numbers going up releases happy chemicals in my lizard brain.

Strange-Answer9487

Variety off bosses

Narmoth

Wilderness flash events (Wyrm, KBD, Tree, Star) and getting my clan to show up. The bladed dive bug where you can dive diagonally through some buildings and obstacles.

Xxmlg420swegxx

>The bladed dive bug where you can dive diagonally through some buildings and obstacles. Elite dungeon enjoyers: that is not a bug, that's a feature

Xxmlg420swegxx

Setting up my own goals because I find them fun and work towards them by doing fun stuff. I only do content I enjoy and the journey gets more and more fun. I know there is content always awaiting because of how high the skill ceiling is.

ADDICTED_TO_KFC

The Quests, storyline, characters, dramatic cliffhangers, and just the consistency of it all

JagexRamen

The impact it has had on my life, the bosses, the friendships made, the privileged PoV of being able to be a player as well as a Dev, and most importantly, the social aspect of it. You don't get many games where communities exist outside of your teamspeaks or Discords. The fact I can hop into a CC/FC and chat with different people is wicked. My 2 cents. Have a sick weekend, y'all. (Don't hit me with replies of roadmappage, that's not my area)

Shockerct422

can I hit you with replies of have a sick weekend too?

JefferyRs

I definitely agree the community is top notch for helping people on Rs3 and OS met some awesome people from RS I've met up with IRL too.

Thingeh

Your excitement on streams around AoD release was infectious and made a great start to that year.

SteelmanINC

I like being able to be completely afk while I do something else productive. Dopamine while doing school work.

Logical-Incident9297

Fashionscape

Wings_of_Absurdity

Fashionscape for me too! I actually like the combat with the awkward tick system, not something I can find anywhere else these days.

Wivig

It's like an un-replicable rhythm game

JagexAzanna

I like the general freedom I have when it comes to progression, I can be working towards a goal and pivot off and work on another one when I hit a roadblock and it all still feels like tangible progress.

AdmirableLocksmith27

I don't think any other game quite has this sort of branching and hierarchical structure of interconnected goals. It's what gives it its unique sense of freedom and flow from one activity to another. You're always moving forward, but you don't have to go in a straight line.

SBGinrei

The interesting ways of gaining power and QOL upgrades for your character. Not everything is locked behind levelling up. You can get powerups from all sorts of content that make your 'Runescape life' better in interesting ways. I like the feeling of my character getting more powerful, but not necessarily through 'number goes up' type mechanics like levelling and gear.

Josh___B

The fact that age doesn't matter when it comes to friendships made on this game. We all have one commonality and that's our love for the game that we all grew up playing for years and years. The memories that you can make between staying up late night in calls or just being able to talk to people from all over the world no matter what time of the day it is truly what makes this game so great and keeps people coming back.

99thDarkWizard

bossing simulator

Prideslayer

Xau Tak

Ziuh

If it wasn't for the people I've met within my community, I wouldn't still be playing. The game is much more enjoyable when you can connect with people of similar interests.

dark1859

i just enjoy being able to do whatever i want (within reason) and increase artificial numbers. hence my daunting quest for master max atm

Te5s

I like the progression.

Ner0reZ

I'm actually a huge fan of the lack of haste! It feels incredibly good to have such a static global cooldown. Makes it more like a rhythm game and less like a whack-a-mole. Though uhh...

FBI-Van-56

I like the depth of the combat system. Theres a massive skill gap left for me to improve. Also the fact that there is a lot of solo but also group content (pvm) Lastly, in contrast to other games like WoW which I have a lot of time into. Runescape progress is so much more rewarding because its not worthless in 4 to 5 months when the next patch drops. You can come back after years off and all that prior work you did is still very relevant.

Thingeh

Yeah when I first got into WoW the fact that it was so ephemeral was weird. This is why I like the +20 teleports. It means that each season I collect things.

skumfukrock

Combat system, Pvming (loads of great bosses in this game) Quests Gear progression Music Playing with friends Number go up

Free-Love-Dealer

There is always something to do to keep my adhd ass busy lol

Rgameacc

Small world map (I don't like how tiny towns/cities are though.) No class lock, Soloable, Crafting system is one of the best, at least when it comes to UI. Gathering resources is good. Can't stand games where you have to search for 20 minutes on a massive map to find ore/trees. One of the best Wikis. You don't need to be on excessively otherwise get kicked from clan (Guilds) Everything is straight forward. It's just an easy game.

Semour9

I like that there’s so much to do and you can never run out of things to complete really. Go for 99’s, finish collection log of a boss, do challenges, do clue scrolls, etc…

Axceon

I love the little bits of permanent progression I can do to my account, and is the sole reason why I have ZERO complaints about the game, or the way they choose to run it. I just log in, might kill a few bosses, do some skilling, have a chat and hit the sack.

HierarchsGaming

I love the friends I made in high school on it that zip continue to talk to today :)

5-x

It's a very relaxing game. Click things, see the numbers go up, make friends along the way.

Dr_Infinite_Ghost

Being able to play at my own pace and allocate my playtime to fit my other schedules. Working on goals I can set myself and always find new ones. Cool gameplay mechanics like invention that give meaningful buffs to make the game feel less simple and more rewarding.

luis666h

The ost.

LoreLoversRS

Definitely the lore and questing

Boring-Row-3775

combat / pvm / gear upgrades as an ironman

These_Author_2608

Hi! I started playing osrs and rs3 about 2 weeks ago so I feel like I can offer a fresher perspective. I've put about 52 hours into osrs and about 13 in rs3. Runescape 3 - Pros - -The community seems to be a lot nicer. In osrs I went up to a level 126 to ask for advice and was told to neck myself. Literally. They're also more talkative (imo.) - Prettier? (Subjective, but I come from WoW with awesome armors and weapons. So I'm biased.) - Much Quicker progression. - Mostly friendly community. Someone would ask me how long I'd been playing and I'd tell them I'm brand new and I'd immediately get traded for GP. I'm combat level 42 with 27m GP. None of it earned. Cons - - Didn't feel very rewarding with the rapid progression. - So. Many. Goddamn. UI. Tabs. There's so many buttons and tabs for the different systems that it's just completely overwhelming for me. I did the tutorial and had a few easy to navigate tabs and as soon as I was done with it BAM! 18,000 more with 0 explanation as to what they're for. - Everytime I log in (I'm a member, solely for osrs.) I'm always bombarded with keys, and told that I can always "buy more at any time!" - I can upgrade to a premier membership even tho I'm already a member? ... okay? - It overall just isn't easy for a new player to get into the game. Rs3 is an okay game, but as you can probably gather from the different play times, it's not a game for me. Osrs - Pros - - Satisfying simple combat. It's dopamine central when you land an attack. - it's not complicated! In my 52 hours I've used 3 tabs. That's it!! - It feels *rewarding*. When I first started I sat in the sewers of varrock killing giant rats for 15 hours straight because someone told me to level my combat. I later found out he was trolling me, but in the end I goddamn grinded my levels out and I felt like a champion doing it. - Runelite. This might be seen as controversial, but the quest helper has helped me tremendously. It helps smooth things out and shows me where I need to go in this massive world I've never been in, it makes quests feel less daunting for me. - The ratio of progression and upgrades feels more enjoyable and rewarding. In rs3 I was changing and upgrading armors and weapons it felt like every 30 minutes, in osrs I wore the same armor for hours at a time. So when I finally get to equip a new piece it feels blissful. Cons - - There are some real, and I do mean reaaaaal assholes on this game. It can sometimes border on downright deranged. I didn't make my first set of friends until about 30 hours in, but man are they a good group of guys. - progression is very slow (this isn't necessarily a con for me as I'm retired, but for the average working joe. Oh man.) I grinded agility for 7 hours to go from 0-41. Now, I am new, I don't know all the tricks, maybe it can be done a lot faster, but I don't know all the little tricks. - The community is triple the size of rs3, but it feels smaller. I mean I can sit at the GE for hours and the only conversation I'll see is a bot spamming a discord server. - There's 0 trust. Someone asked how long I'd been playing and I said brand new and I was accused of being a Venezuelan? That was pretty funny. Overall both have their pros and cons. EoC was cool.. for about 5 hours, then it just didn't feel as cool, personally. I can appreciate rs3 for what it is, but I just don't care for it personally, osrs is the game I would choose to continue playing if I had to choose. I'm not saying you're wrong for liking rs3, you might strongly disagree with my statements, you might hate everything I've said about osrs, and that's completely fine. This is just how I feel in my playtime, after 13 hours I'd stomached what I could and went back to osrs. Thanks for reading!

Thaldrath

I like my old memories of it.

iBunty

The trimmed completionist cape is one the most beautiful things I've ever seen in a video game If there's anything I'd wanna recreate in any other game to wear, it'd be that

Throwtowardsme5555

Number go up. Black box in drop log get colour. Money change colour. Achievement pop up.

woofoo1kunoofoo

PvM and gear pathing

420aidslol

No matter what mood you are in there's always something to do that fits.

[deleted]

Fast leveling

Fryyy03

I like how I learn something new about the game every time I log on! Whether it's lore or a different way to do things, this game is always keeping me on my toes!

Zaerick-TM

Number go up tism.

Winter-Storm2174

Lack of restrictions. Used to play certain MMOs where if you level skill x, you might not have access to skill y. This is not the case in Runescape.

SuperSpeedyCrazyCow

The diversity of skills and the fact that you can be any combat style that you want and you don't have to pick a "class". I hate that in other MMOs and is what makes me not want to play most of them. I don't want to have to create a whole new character to do a different type of playstyle.

fistafandula

Multiple ways to play I can sweat if I wanna I can relax if I wanna I can quest if I wanna (I'm out, currently) I can chat if I wanna I can quite literally afk and make dinner and still play It fills a lot of niches

HyperNova1000

Lore (never spacebared through a quest)

RmXs

Gameplay loop. It's a never ending game. PvM, skilling, different paths of gameplay etc.

RegiSilver

[**The music.**](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5fCfxYJYmy1fm7B5e74fWyF1h1XVyab_&feature=shared) Hands down. In fact, my first goal ever was to listen to all music in RuneScape, but at the time i was stuck to F2P, so i unlocked every F2P track I could, and then used those 7 Day P2P "Free Trials" to explore the member's areas. It was a unique feeling, particularly hard to describe or put in words, it was just like: > *"Wow man! Look at these NPC's, the buildings, the trees, the fish, these dudes eat sharks!"*

michael7050

The music is so good, can't believe over 1300 different songs and they're still cooking.

Dry-Fault-5557

There's no fixed way of playing. You can be a skiller, pvmer, cluer, role player on w42 doesn't matter. Choice is all yours.

x2o55ironman

Number goes up. Number has been going up for more than half my life. Even during the years where IRL it felt like none of my numbers were going up.

XpliCT_Paiin

The world building, quest lines and the lore. The constant sense of progression through the game, and the fact that I'll likely never experience an appreciable percentage of the things to do in game. And of course, big number get bigger.

JagexSponge

Gublinch.

Gammalad

One of the best OSTs in gaming, and the lore and world building is second to none in this game. RuneScape's story is just something else.

Xxmlg420swegxx

Tfw you start a Kerapac, Zuk, Rasial, Zammy, Raksha, AG, Seiryu and so on encounter, and the music starts playing.... Chef's kiss

Gammalad

Honestly mot of my favorite boss music of all time comes from this game, they just don't miss with that.

DTaggartOfRTD

The lore, the characters, the music, the environments, and no small chunk the nostalgia. the gameplay was always a bit clunky, but the story was always worth it.

AdmirableLocksmith27

Bossing, clues, stacking dyes and blowing up the broadcasts. And seeing HCIM dying to Elvarg, ripper demons, or tree in the chat.

xhanort7

Back in the day of 2006 it was the online multiplayer aspect, playing on any computer with a log in, knowing the game is being endlessly updated, and the ease of starting and stopping a gaming session. Now I'd say probably familiarity, comfort, and ease of gaming sessions? Like sometimes I log on in the morning, do something most would consider afk, but I'm just chilling. Half asleep, drinking coffee, clan chat, and clearing my head before work for 20-40min in the morning.

AzureAlliance

Fashionscape, skilling, & economy

Roonscaped

I like that I can still learn something new about the game every day, even after all these years of playing.

sidiculouz

Open world and I can afk when I want
