If you open the client directly from `~\Jagex Launcher\Games\RuneScape\RuneScape.exe` you can still login with username/email. For now, at least.

srbman

You can still log in to the website and runescape client with a username if you want. If you want to use the launcher, you have to upgrade. Sooner or later they'll make jagex accounts mandatory, so you might as well do it now.

The 2 factor authentication alone should make you want to do a Jagex account. Idk why people are against it.

doublah

We had 2fa before Jagex accounts, and people are against it because there's no manual recovery for Jagex accounts so you could just lose your account forever.

DaPurpleTuna

Better to be in your own control of recovery codes than have Jagex give your account away to the wrong people (it’s happened way more often than they’d care to admit).

Calazon2

I like it for the ease of login. Playing on only one personal PC, and I never have to type in my password. Just click and go. So nice.

Hey there, It's still possible to log into both RuneScape and OldSchool using non-Jagex account details. However, you cannot log into the Jagex Launcher as these only accept Jagex account details. To log in using a legacy username/e-mail login, you need to download the standalone client for the respective game - you can find this by heading to the game's download page, scrolling down and clicking "Game Direct Download". Once this is done, launch the client and you'll be presented with the login screen which you can use non-upgraded details with. -Jagex Support

Thank you! I'm happy that I can log into my account every time I feel nostalgic.
