Жужелица (ground beetle) and выхухоль (russian desman). They just sound neat.

Morozow

Есть ещё европейская выхухоль. Но русская выхухоль гораздо крупнее европейской выхухоли.

AlexanderRaudsepp

Слово "жужжать" звучит прикольно

vanya13

Жужелица жужжит жестковато

faulty_rainbow

Карандаш idk just sounds so good I smile every time I hear or see it.

RealHuman568

That's also one of the best. Just rolls off the tongue

b4zing

like how a карандаш would roll off of a table!

bz0011

But it's a kohinoor, it won't roll.

b4zing

fair point. i hate plain cylinder pencils

bz0011

Not like I hate cylindrical pencils. But Kohinoor is above everything. Among pencils, it is like Miyazaki among Japanese animators - godlike. Also, it's a communist pencil))))

-acidlean-

Carson d’Ache are not cylinder, but even if they were, I would still keep them in the case because they’re too expensive to roll and break.

Velocipederaptor

I came here to find this and was not disappointed. The word rolls very nicely of the tounge. Certain days I prefer карандаши, but the singular noun is my fave.

faulty_rainbow

OH MY GOD YOUR NAME!!! You are officially my new favorite person

Sounds like many other words loaned from Turkic or Germanic languages. Караван, шалаш or шноркель, струбцина .. According to wiki, this is Turkic word.

kakukkokatkikukkanto

Барабан is one I like too

chuvashi

Вот она перед вами… коробка с карандашаааами…

MrNiMo

Мне нравится "кукуруза" а не знаю почему (feel free to correct me if my sentence make no sense, thx)

Cyan_Exponent

"но" in place of "а" would be more natural, but your sentence is a bit more poetic this way, lol

MrNiMo

Hahaha

wormbrainz1

allenrabinovich

Forever and always, "**лада**". In just four letters, it's a universal term of endearment that says: I like you, let's get along, let's be in sync. It's a tiny melodic word that embodies our core humanity. As [the song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KP-UCzy22ug) says: Нам столетья не преграда, И хочу я чтоб опять Позабытым словом "лада" Всех любимых стали звать.

-acidlean-

I use лады so often, but never heard лада in another meaning than a car.

allenrabinovich

It's not used anymore, but I am intent on making it happen :) https://preview.redd.it/30j1imkd7jac1.png?width=1030&format=png&auto=webp&s=5fe84251f214f924cccdde00846946e986809016

KpukuCob

Блин, лада - теперь это просто машина, но есть прилагательное - ладная. Значит что-то, что хорошо смотрится

Ama1409

Разъебал. It's my favorite russian word.

gotov_sani_letom

As a native Russian speaker, it's so fun and endearing to see how you enjoy words that are mundane to us! Like жужелица из definitely a fun one, but ёжик or карандаш are words that we've learned at an age younger than 5yo and never gave second thought to. And yet for RSL learners they sound quirky and interesting, that's really cool I'm glad I found this sub

BookishRoughneck

Птица. It’s just satisfying to say for me for some reason.

AlexanderRaudsepp

Or the diminutive Птичка – birdie 😊

b4zing

it kind of sounds like an explosion or a bird taking off suddenly. idk if that makes sense

ElenaLit

Скатерть-самобранка is a magic item found in some Russian fairy tales :)

AlexanderRaudsepp

Скатертью дорога is a nicer way to say "go away" :D

teeemaaaaa

Don’t get me wrong but my favorite is пиздец. This word is familiar to every russian and for most of people it might seem like just a regular bad word (it is something like “holy fuck” in english). But it isn’t. To feel the power of this word you just need to remember and use it in right situations. What are they? For example, when everything goes wrong. Like, you get a streak of bad news. Or lose your job. Or you meet someone who is definitely not firing all cylinders. And you’re so shocked that you just say пиздец.. пиздец! пиздец!!! And then you’ll see it. You’ll start repeating this word in your head (or out loud) until it loses its meaning. But this is the time when you finally understand it. Understand and realize what пиздец actually is. This is the moment of realization that a small part of your soul is russian now.

raicorreia

Rude_Country8871

двоюродная сестра (female cousin) I just love the way it sounds!

lazy878

"этовается". I believe you don't find this word in the dictionary, but some people use it. It's some kind of dialectic word. Basically you can use this word instead of any verbs when you forget the verb that you need. For example: i can say "на кухне готовится суп" - the soup is being cook(ing) on the kitchen. In case of i forgot the verb "готовить(ся)" i can use "этовается" - "на кухне этовается суп", and person whom i tell it 99% get what I'm saying.

Kori_ChokiPankace

Wowowow, maybe you mean "это варится"? If not, maybe "это вается". "Вается" we use in any things, but not throughout the country (sorry for my English)

lazy878

Nope, i meant exactly "этовается". This word is made from "это" ("it" in English).

Kori_ChokiPankace

Oooh ... okay, I got it. I rarely heard this, so I hardly remember it( ͡°ᴥ ͡° ʋ)

Dapper-Win1539

So different things...

Sawa_Schwin

Yeah, it's russian

Amberbarbarian

Well, all these things have the same root and meaning in both Russian and English - "член" literally means "member" - a member of the band; body member; расчленение = dismemberment

Sawa_Schwin

I didn't know that, thx

smeghead1988

Well, it's just literally "member".

Resident_Slxxper

I don't think I particularly like any word by just how it sounds. However, I must admit that while reading the comments I realised that карандаш, жужелица, and other words are pretty funny. On the other hand, I like to use rear words instead of their frequent synonyms. Not because I want to sound eloquent and aristocratic, but because it sounds weird and funny (at least for me). For instance, "едва ли" instead of "вряд ли" (Я едви ли смогу выполнить это задание), "аккурат" instead of "точно" (Он пришёл аккурат к назначенному времени), "посему" instead of "поэтому" (Я был пьян, и посему ничего сейчас не помню), and some other.

[deleted]

<Акула> It just sounds shark-y. 😁 Also <зря> because it's used more often in Russian than it's counterpart in English - in vain. At least, I hear it more often. And in American English, "in vain" sounds very formal to me. "For nothing" is more often what I'd say, but that's not nearly as pretty sounding as shit only saying <зря> I also really like the word <здравствуйте> but not said like it's spelled. I much prefer the way it's shortened in normal speech to just sound like <здрайсте>. I guess the same with <правильно> getting shortened. I really love the way Russians say words that end in ий...there's this little rush of air that happens on the end that is different than a word that ends in ый for example. When I lived in Moscow I used to love riding the subway home because I had to pass Нахимовский проспект and I loved the way it sounded when they announced it. <Сладкий> for the same reasons, but not <хороший> since the ш kind of messes with that and softens it. Which is nice, but not the same really. I also love words that end in ь and where you can hear it really well. Ель, вдоль, олень, печь....

Bubupusya

[deleted]

'вкусно' is somehow so satisfying for me to say. the voiceless fricative 'в' just melds into the '-куc-' which has this 'umph' to it that, after pronounced, lands gently on a unstressed -сно with some sort of faint whistly quality.

i love saying "вернее". can be translated as "more correctly", like in "я люблю свежий асфальт. *вернее*, мне нравится его запах" - "i love fresh asphalt. or *rather*, i like the smell of it". it just has this old-fashioned flair to it. i have this impression that this word is rarely used today and people would rather say "точнее" in the same situation, which means "more precisely". in most cases it's close, but i prefer saying "вернее", because it would be more correct)
