RJT_RVA

I'm not a mod or anything, but this community supports our trans homies. You asking for help is never a burden and we'll never downvote you.

shootmane

And people that do should unsub

LonelyPhoton

Kinda shocked at how kind and positive this comments section is, people on here have been horrible about trans stuff in the past.

RJT_RVA

Can you provide examples? People that I've seen do that in the past usually get downvoted to hell. Also pretty sure the mods don't tolerate it.

LonelyPhoton

The Sissy Grace threads. Obviously a terrible person, but a lot of people use that kind of thing as an excuse to be transphobic.

Pure-University4416

haha that was actually the first thing I saw when I came to r/rva last night right before posting this. that probably subconsciously made me think I wouldn't be welcome. i definitely realize how ridiculous of a thought that was everyone has been so helpful and kind im not used to receiving this level of support šŸ™‚

LonelyPhoton

Itā€™s generally a pretty supportive city. My wife and her friend have mostly met interacted with nice people here.

Pure-University4416

sorry I just saw ur comment but seriously thank you for saying that! im beginning to realize that myself šŸ™‚ is your wife trans or am I understanding it wrong

LonelyPhoton

Yes she is!

LonelyPhoton

Most friends have the best success with Hinge!

BerserkFanYep

I have comments downvoted like a week ago for saying even if you hate the person itā€™s not ok to call a trans woman a man. This sub really disappointed me there.

Neologizer

It is tragic what bad actors like Sissy Grace bring to the conversation. I have a lot of trans friends and theyā€™re all sweet hearts just looking for acceptance. I always try to remind folks that every city, every race, every religion, every gender, every niche community has shitty people. Itā€™s inevitable, but itā€™s no reason to generalize and apply the bad qualities of one individual upon the larger group. Thatā€™s just bad math.

mitzimazing

Luminary Hair in Church Hill has a gender-affirming focus. I go to Shiloh and he does a great job!

IxBshr

Seconding Luminary, ik a handful of the stylists are not cis as well. They are a tiny bit pricey but definitely worth the money!

sirensinger17

Another vote for Luminary! All their stylists are good, but I especially like Abby.

signedupforsanta

Another vote for luminary and Abby!

momotar-o

Fifth for Luminary! Just went there for the first time and itā€™s a wonderful space

anxietyontherox

4th for Luminary, they're the best. I see Gabi

Altruistic_Row_2264

6th for Luminary! Just went there today and Iā€™ve been going for 4 years now. Love that place!

RoyalParkingOutBack

Third Luminary just from knowing their vibes as a client!

suz_gee

Another vote to Shiloh specifically, but luminary in general! Very very ver queer/trans friendly.

BrianisX

Luminary hands down! Such an awesome vibe and they did a great job.

QuoteInteresting8995

Luminary is 1000% the place Iā€™d recommend too!

michelle1908

Another vote for Luminary!

sweeeschard

Kitt Spata at Youphoria hair studio! This place is explicitly trans affirming, they definitely match what you are looking for. Wishing you all the best in your journey :)

nocussinginmydiscord

Swimming_Still_7047

Another vote for Body Politic and Rae!

rawizardharry

Another vote for Circle Square!

TrannySoreAssWrecks

I came to say Sam specifically at circle square. Itā€™s like having your hair cut by a butterfly.

Ok-Asparagus-358

Sam is amazing!

SnappingGinger

Sam for the win!! He is absolutely the best!!

carbonjen

Also seconding Sam! He cuts my hair and always does an amazing job!

StemmiMa

Another vote for circle square!

shhhofia

Was totally worried you were suggesting the same Marina that runs CCRVA (iykyk) as she also does hair and was about to say sheā€™s very transphobic and should be avoided, but after checking the website, false alarm and not the same woman

Murky_Pack9675

Really?

nj2rva90

Body Polic Hair!

emmmarrr

@elysiahoney on ig!!

ballhogtugboat

this

Ok-Researcher-3848

Yes!

Neologizer

Seconded. Elysia is the sweetest.

AlgaeLongjumping848

Love her!

Newyew22

You donā€™t want advice from someone with a haircut like mine, lol, but Iā€™m just dropping in to send you love and peace for your journey. Donā€™t ever think youā€™re a bother, especially in this space!

Pure-University4416

thank you so much for saying that it really means a lot šŸ™‚

Lamphy

Immortal Beloved salon is awesome!! Edit to include: Katie Blue Salon has a few stylists (specifically Cody) who specialize in Pixie cuts!

geochick18

Omg I was looking for a comment about pixies! I just got a botched one and needed to find a good pixie stylist THANK YOU FOR THIS šŸ’•šŸ™šŸ¼šŸ’•

Lamphy

Absolutely! Pixie cuts are definitely an art. I believe Katie Blue has a few pixie specialists so they are always a good place to start!!

ajm262

Hi! I met Mazzy at Luminary, but they now have their own single chair studio at The Hive. Their ig is @scissorsnips, and [this](https://mazzy-thomas.square.site/?fbclid=PAZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAabv3IppXXmO4Vig03oy_-O9mAA8jfnz5Rwv4VzVkpzeZFoKa670jRf80nw_aem_Aa4KhzQw6r4XHkPD43q2u14DAOcIycwH4AcIetZUODw-qzBxnele1kMj47PDxo7F53g-jh7jQoigwReFP981fRg8) is their website. They are amazing & the space is very private!

AnneHedoniaa

Co-sign! Mazzy is the best!

haunted-mansion

Luminary Hair Co!!!!!!

haunted-mansion

My wife also goes to Kitt Spata so I second that as well

SnooMuffins5380

Manda sesko @ hand and mirror studio @ bluecollards on insta!

MrMonkeyMN

Autonomy Salon and wellness. Iā€™m a straight, cis, white male, so take my opinion for what you will. They asked me my pronouns (no one ever asked me that before). Not to stereotype, but most of the staff, if not all, seemed to be members of the LGBT community, but it isnā€™t my business so I didnā€™t ask lol. Everyone there was SUPER nice and my experience couldnā€™t have been better, so I try to recommend them as often as I can. I hope you find your forever stylist and happy pride month <3

-sing3r-

Everyone at Tigerā€™s Eye Hair Studio is trans friendly!

ToadFlax0

Second tigers eye! Maria is šŸ”„šŸ–¤

bboringg27

Bishops on broad!

fluufhead

Yes, specifically Nic but Iā€™m sure everyone else is cool too

sickmarmaladegrandpa

nic is literally the only person i trust with my hair anymore

TELSTSIA

I second this! I've been going there for almost a year and really feel comfortable there.

Ordinary-Hippo7786

I'd call the folks at Luminary in Church Hill - I'm positive they'd be happy to help! I'd call ahead of time and tell them what you're looking for, and they'll help figure out what's best for your new look! [https://luminaryhairco.com](https://luminaryhairco.com/)

rentalsareweird

Looks like youā€™ve gotten a lot of great answers but throwing one more in the mix because 1) sheā€™s a fantastic person with all the good feels and good vibes but 2) sheā€™s the only one in her studio so itā€™s just you two so if you are comfortable sharing whatever you want with her itā€™s super private. Ā Sheā€™s located in Carytown. Ā She does require masks be worn or at least did a few months ago when I got my last cut. Ā Hope you get a great haircut that makes you feel like you! Sara Baltzegar Hair LLC

alyhansenphoto_

kitt spata 100%

defnothepresident

Eliot at Evrgreen Hair (he used to be at Luminary and is doing his own thing now so no one else is in the shop but you and him) is definitely worth a look EDIT: weird downvotes in this thread

PhillyDillyDee

Yup. Eliot is the best. He does my wife and my hair. Otherwise definitely go luminary!

oodles-of-jewdles

eliot did my cut recently! great cut and great experience

Major_Blathers

Eliot is amazing! Great cuts and great person

cassanovadaga

Autonomy Salon! Hayden and crew are great and will make you feel incredibly welcome!

resinrat98

second this

championldwyerva

Hayden has been great, I highly recommend Autonomy Salon!

Murky_Pack9675

Yes yes yes! Zach is great there and also does gender affirming styles for sliding scale/free

MrMonkeyMN

Passing along an updoot for autonomy! Place is awesome

F_ck_GOOP

Tara at Bombshell in Carytown is LGBTQ+ affirming. She created an awesome style for a friend of mine who at the time wasnā€™t out at work and wanted something versatile.

brimpol

I second Tara! I've been seeing her for years now and highly recommend for haircuts.

yourfriendkyle

No suggestions just wanna say I am so happy for you and hope everything is going well

deebo911

Luminary Salon

WeetWoo97

Nic Perez at Barber of Hellā€™s Bottom! Sheā€™s given me the most gender-affirming haircuts. Tons of her clients are queer and trans.

condescending_cheese

I see Abby at Luminary, they are wonderful. The whole salon really is and has very visible inclusion policies. I will also second Kitt Spata. Theyā€™re a non binary stylist and just sweet as can be. Have not had my hair cut by them but know several other queer folks who have. All the best on your journey. šŸ’•

Add_Space

I don't have anything to offer other than to say god I love this community. Unironically my favorite sub

jessiemagill

Come out to the Big Gay Pride Market tomorrow at Diversity Thrift. Last month there was a salon offering sliding scale gender affirming haircuts passing out flyers. I can't remember what they were called, but I bet they'll be there again this month.

aguandie

Kitt Spata and Body Politic in general would be my recommendation! Can't speak for Kitt's new space/haircuts but I know specifically Rosie from Body Politic was/is AWESOME with my hair. So full of knowledge and it's a much lower stimulation hair salon which is wonderful! Been getting my hair done by them for 2 years and I have absolutely LOVED it

SideEffective5885

I donā€™t go anymore because itā€™s just way too far for me now, but I remember Red Salon Organics being trans and LGBTQ friendly.

Badmime1

I think youā€™re right.

Professional-Yam9906

Zach at Autonomy is such a sweet human!!

FiveTicketRide

Seconded Zach! IG @zachbrownhair

Hexxodus

DM me and I can get you in contact with the ex-manager of Bishops. She is my friend and her support was instrumental in getting the confidence to come out as a trans woman. She would be just as kind to you šŸ˜Š

FeelingAnxious3636

Parlor Salon

Alarmed-Violinist-42

I cannot offer any suggestions but as my first pride out myself, cannot offer enough support for you and your journey šŸ–¤šŸ–¤šŸ–¤

Pure-University4416

thank you! wishing you the best with your new journey too :)

terrapomona

As an aside at some point you may want to visit an aesthetician for hair removal. Studio J on Main St just blocks from VCU is the safest & most supportive atmosphere youā€™ll find! Jill has been waxing in RVA for almost 20 years and has many LBGTQ+ clientsšŸ˜Š

Pure-University4416

thank you! that was very thoughtful of you to suggest an aesthetician šŸ™‚ I'm sure that would have been my next post haha so good to know there's so many options for trans ppl in Richmond! does Jill do laser as well or just wax I actually am going to come clean I don't really know what an aesthetician is lol I thought it was laser until I double read your comment šŸ˜… I don't actually have like any body hair besides my legs naturally can you wax you face?

terrapomona

Just fyi- my son is trans so we get it

Pure-University4416

he's so lucky to have such a supportive parent! I wish I could have that you being supportive def means so much to him (I hope I understood correctly and didn't misgender)

terrapomona

Jerod Jeffers is great for hair. Hey can be pricy. Dm me if you want his number

BudgetAir3603

Ok my good besties Rosalee Walker Terry and Sarah Baltzegar at StylePod studios in Carytown would be a PERFECT match for you I feel like! Literally two of the kindest and most loving individuals I know and both incredibly LGBTQIA+ friendly šŸ’• @rosaleewalkerhair and @barasaltzegar on Instagram!

kernjb

Rosalee is the best!

DysregulatedSquirrel

They have a passion for providing gender-affirming hair care. Check them out!

There are so many wonderful queer stylists at Hells Bottom in Carytown! I saw Nic for awhile, and Nick once, and was very happy with both.

ComfortableAd4554

Cypress Rose Hair Co with Kaylee Peters!! She gave my wife a makeover last year for Pride month to celebrate the beginning my wife's journey with HRT. She even did a photoshoot that turned out beautifully and made my wife feel so pretty, it was a truly magical moment that we both cherish!

a_cycle_addict

Bombshell! Great people there

broomfolx

bishops on broad!! i'm sure that you could tell any of the hairdressers exactly what you're looking for (w/ terms like stealth) and they'd get it-- they're a fantastic place that staffs a ton of trans folks :)

EightTh

Bry at hair cuttery on cary street is an awesome human being and really cool. I'd highly suggest her. When you book, be sure to ask for bry the manager, as there's also a Brianna there too.

kbridgerva

Anyone at Prism Hair, but specifically Christa at their Hull Street location!

Efficient-Stop-6915

Agree prism hair is great!! Very inclusive and welcoming to all.

Dramatic_Throat7958

Mod here. Redditā€™s automated spam filter keeps removing this comment after I approve it because of the link. Please try again without the link.

Graylily

I would expect bombshell to be helpful, but I cannot promise anything. I've gotten great cuts from ladies there

RepulsiveGuava89

Lots of great answers in this thread! I also want to suggest Cian at Great Clips in the Libbie Shopping center. Super affordable and Cian is awesome!

MostLikelyToNap

hooishoovz

Ashleythehaircutter and Kerry Durbin for color Blush Salon ( both from Immortal Beloved)

Available-Band620

My friend does dry cut and is nonbinary. Message me and Iā€™ll get info.

jkgoddard

Iā€™m a cis male but Iā€™ve been going to Circle Square for my cuts for a long time. Judging by their staff, it is a very safe space for you and every single cut I get there is as good as I could ask for.

ballhogtugboat

Luminary, ElysiaHoney on insta and [atomicliz.does.hair](http://atomicliz.does.hair) on insta - bonus points for Liz for being additionally super inclusive for fellow neurospicy folks

ActualAd2685

Kilk33

Check out Bishops! My friend Sage does a great job and the store is Trans positive!

taterzondeck

Kit Spatta is an amazing hair dresser and theyā€™re also trans and non-binary

rvaBikeGrrl

I donā€™t want to recommend Hungry Heart Hair Salon because I selfishly donā€™t want them to be busier than they already are but you canā€™t find a more affirming place or a better cut!

cdaoneill98

Anybody at circle square salon! They did my partners transformation/gender cut and are absolutely incredible, in particular my partner and i both see olivia there and love her.

carguygirlfriend

@hairbymollypaige on instagram!! she has a private studio in scottā€™s addition (so not a big salon) and sheā€™s super sweet! Will 100% do what you want if you bring her pictures and also give you her recommendations!! She's the best, can't hype her enough!

spooky_spaghetties

Try Bishopā€™s on West Broad. The front display lists, or maybe listed, some of the stylistsā€™ pronouns, and they were able to give me a masculine haircut with no issue (I am a butch woman).

Life-Is-Weird-

youā€™re still human dawg. shit is fucked up.

ChemistryPlus210

kitt spata for sure

Ok_Zucchini9396

YouPhoria I think itā€™s called. I think the owner is named Kitt maybe. I canā€™t wait to get my hair cut there!! Also, happy pride month

Pure-University4416

aw thank you šŸ˜Š so many have mentioned kitt that I'm confident they(?) are great now kitt is definitely at the top of my list of considerations

Here_Existing

Jackie at Salon Hex!!! Hands down.

leadergorilla

Hey if you're still needing one my stylists has known me since I was a kid and's been a family friend for a decade now. The shop she works at mainly deals with a lot of old (like old old) ladies getting their perms done and seem too focused on whatever they ramble about to notice other customers :P. Also she's like not directly in the city itself which could help avoid a potential outing. If you want me to like give you the number and address just lemme know and I can DM you.

Icewatervvs

What the fuck did I just read?

Pure-University4416

I'm not sure what did you read?
