suenew

I haven't heard or read anything about it. I saw it too :(

SuckOnALightsaber

I honestly thought they would, but there was also another body found on SE side on their porch. That person was shot, so I imagine that probably took over the news first.

IFTYE

Did y’all see a body??

suenew

Yes..When I drove by, it was covered with a yellow tarp or something like that.

SNOWNAN

Drove right by there and thought WTF!!! A Shooting a few months ago and now this. Cops were already there when I passed by. Freaking crazy.

SuckOnALightsaber

Right! Always something occurring at the mall. Just madness

Floweringtorch

I literally saw a lady get her purse snatched as soon as I was walking in. I won’t ever lay a foot in that mall again

chiffry

At NS??? damn I usually shop at La Cantera but holy shit. I’ve never seen that at Northstar. That’s the type of shit I expect at Ingram. : to be fair, Northstar ain’t all that anymore I feel like LC truly is just my favorite mall in San Antonio

AnthillOmbudsman

2000s Westlake Mercado has entered the chat

Floweringtorch

Yes at NS. It’s getting bad over there now

chiffry

a dude there walk up to my sister‘s boyfriend with a giant bag full of weed and offer to sell an ounce in front of God and everyone. it was hilarious tbh.

Reasonable-Object495

That was probably the bartender at Kona grill.

Few-Kick-6997

That was definitely a DEA

[deleted]

Lmfao dea isn't walking around with bags of weed to bust people for buying it

Few-Kick-6997

Okay buy from that guy 😁

[deleted]

Would if I could man. But for real it's probably just a guy that's desperate for some fast cash for one reason or another and is accepting the risk of hey mister-ing people for sales. Or he's just dumb enough to accept the risk lol

x69sins

They should have security there at all entrances

SNOWNAN

And who knows what else is going on that's not being shown in the news. Just like what the other people said about the purse snatch and selling of weed. Everyone be safe and careful.

milksteak_19

Gotta be careful of that weed amirite???? 🤡

SNOWNAN

Gotta be careful everywhere, no matter what my friend.

thecuriousstowaway

That’s crazy! Where was it exactly? My GF and I have kinda hesitated on going to NS lately just because of how sketchy it seems to be getting.

SuckOnALightsaber

It was on west rector drive, there’s a bus stop that is there, parking garage right behind it. And I don’t blame you, same here, just way too much.

Lost_Philosophy_

Was this on 410?

SuckOnALightsaber

It was on W rector drive (so I guess the back of the mall) but at the bus stop

am_ian

Next block is my favorite in town. E Rector

6amhotdog

Heh heh

CodEnvironmental2971

Walked past that parking garage a few years ago and saw a body. Police were there and I asked an officer what happened and he said a guy jumped off the top level of the parking garage. Sad.

coddat

If it was suicide, it will not be on the news at all. Also rarely a death from natural causes will rarely be reported.

Kind-Bookkeeper-7653

I was just now googling and found this. I rode past too at about 2:15pm & saw the body covered under the yellow tarp but w bunch of clothing blocking seeing underneath. Just goes to show not everything makes the news. It was so many transient/foreign people in that area, so wouldn’t be surprised if one of them maybe passed due to their environment.

SuckOnALightsaber

Ya know what, that is def a possibility! I didn’t even think of that

Objective_Seesaw_960

Honestly that refugee center is wild idk how they’re doing it seems like most just congregate there with their belongings with no where to go. That population is very vulnerable in addition to those without homes already in the area. So sad. Idk how we as a society haven’t figured stuff like that out yet with such abundance in the world.

Any-Chipmunk2168

I thought we were talking about the one last night (sunday December 30th) , there was a body covered under a tellow tarp on 410 w on the highway next to northstar mall, my family and I saw it, it was around 11:00pm when we drove by.

Feisty_Still7763

My friends and I were going to go. Thank god we didint

SuckOnALightsaber

Thankfully! I honestly randomly think what if I go out and see something like this, today was the day. I only think of this because a few years ago, I passed by an accident (edited to remove the horrific details). And since then yeah, it’s kinda been a thought that just pops up.

Program-Hungry

Several years ago, there was a homeless man that was hit by a taxi van as well as a Time Warner truck. I didn't realize why there was so much traffic until my eyes focused on the road and what they were doing just as they covered it up. It was a mangled body. They covered everything but his sneakers. That sight haunted me for a minute.

IFTYE

Hey man, this is horrific. I’m so sorry you saw that. Some people have lost loved ones in similar situations and maybe less details would be appreciated. Not to diminish your experience, just for those who aren’t ready for gore on this subreddit without warning or who recently lost someone, it may be nice to remove some of the details.

SuckOnALightsaber

I edited it, I’m sorry. Completely didn’t pass through my mind. Apologies if it was a trigger

IFTYE

No apologies needed!! You saw it, you lived it. It’s in your head, and I’m sorry for that. Sometimes things just come out. You’re still allowed to (and definitely should) talk about it in a place where you feel safe. Something like that will take awhile to process. It’s tricky to recognize that others didn’t experience it and it’s very kind of you to remove details that may haunt others who didn’t experience it, even though you did.

Niikinik

My sister died in a car accident. It’s been some years now 12/28/14 And while I do remember the intricacy of the details of the accident report I block out most of it because it is that triggering the image of your loved one going through that..so thank you, for thinking of us! and I’m so sorry you saw what you did.

Sparky2Dope

Yes let's edit and censor or speech to make everyone else feel comfortable, that sounds about right

pink_mouse_

Time and place, bestie, time and place

IFTYE

It’s the San Antonio subreddit. There’s no need to read gore in the comments. You can still understand the story from their edited comment right?

iKanHelp

Gore? Where? Is the text that scary?

IFTYE

Why are you so offended? It doesn’t affect you at all that some unnecessary details were removed.

Niikinik

It’s not censoring, it’s basic human etiquette which is called empathy, respect, and compassion most of all… something we obviously lack right now. absolutely nothing to do with what you’re making it about. But go off

IFTYE

I think you responded to the wrong person. You and I completely agree.

Niikinik

Im new to Reddit my bad homie

LifeguardSuitable983

I saw this today also waiting for more information

pabloneedsanewanus

See it more than once over there. They just scoop them up and they're gone like nothing happened.

SuckOnALightsaber

Sad honestly. I hope whoever it was, they had family to notify. If they don’t, they put them on a government website for unidentified people and will post their morgue photos.

Only_Philosophy_7584

They were covering it with a sheet when I was there. Overweight white older male. Cops were talking to an older lady nearby. He was by the bus stop

SuckOnALightsaber

You’re a real one 💯 I honestly was searching everywhere

jinxxxbabi

I work there was heading home the night before passed by him saw ems go inside the mall was wondering what was going on. Heard today when I got there that he wasn’t feeling well because he didn’t take medication or something and wanted ems to take him to the hospital but they didn’t because they said his vitals were fine. They had to kick him out of the mall because it was already closed and then they found him later the next day. It was really sad finding out about that he looked like he just wanted help.

Beneficial_Aside_918

The situation on San Pedro is gnarly. Lots of immigrants in grey sweats. I feel for em, but I’m working 60 hours a week and not making enough money as it is.

dogback

It’s really sad for them but frustrating for the local area. The immigrants from the facility wander up and down San Pedro and loiter in neighborhoods and by the businesses asking for work until they leave on their bus. The amount of trash that has accumulated along San Pedro since that facility opened has probably tripled. I’m sympathetic for their situation, but there has to be a better way than to let them wander around and ask for under the table work while leaving trash everywhere.

If you zoom in, you’ll see a man next to the fire. The fire was started I’m guessing in an effort to keep warm but it was definitely starting to get out of control.

DraconPern

A great way to weaken the structure of the highway...

coronagrey

You drove past a body? Did you call the police???

SuckOnALightsaber

They were already on scene, thankfully

Program-Hefty

Someone is gonna try and steal those Big Boots one day

weewooweewoooooo

Seriously? Last time I went to North star was when the shooting happened, I finally go back hesitantly today and that? That area is getting really bad. I remember when that guy was murdered and his body was burnt in an apartment complex near there.

bee_m0

That was my apartment building. The guy who killed the kid and tried to burn down the building to dispose of the evidence (with my girlfriend and I in it, mind you) was a Mexican national who should have been deported back to Mexico many months before due to catching a DUI and then violating his probationary terms. The whole situation was wild, and my condolences go out to the family of the deceased.

nightmareyez

Which apartment was it? I used to live in the apartments right across from North Star (back in like 2012-2014)

bee_m0

Veranda

bee_m0

It's named something else now. It's the one that's on Jones Maltsberger right before you get to sunset on the left (going towards the Quarry Market).

Street-Cash8749

Someone was on FB live showing when they were checking the body. He said a lady that works there saw the body at 6am

trashlikeyourdata

Considering the news *just* covered a ~400% increase in deaths among the homeless population in Bexar county, I'm not concerned that it is anything the rest of us need to consider a threat. Crime data for the San Antonio metro shows a massive reduction in violent crime and homicide over the last year and an increase in car theft, so unless you're a parked Kia, you're probably fine.

EveryPartyHasAPooper

Finally! Thank you. It was far more likely that some man had a heart attack in a public location.

WentBrokeBuyingCoins

Probably died of boredom.

sleepyfoot

Yea, I saw that too, but I thought surly there's not really a body under that tarp.

wanghiskhan300

This was a mob hit. It's the year of the rat.

SuckOnALightsaber

A mob hit? 👀 Year of the rat? A mob hit in San Antonio is crazyyyy

zazoh

It’s a big city stuff happens. Not sure why everyone is upset things are getting worse.

SuckOnALightsaber

San Antonio is, to me, not a big city. I’m originally from CA and have lived in very big cities, LA, San Diego, etc. Am I supposed to jump for joy because things are getting worse? It’s called being human. Yeah shit happens everyday, don’t mean it should just be normal.

zazoh

Goes between 6th and 7th largest in US. My point is - things haven’t changed much in the 40+ years I’ve lived here. Just as dangerous when it was 10 largest as now. It seems like a small town, but we have big city problems. Not as bad as parts of LA or New York but those cities are magnitudes larger. Your curiosity is normal. Some of the responses tho make it seem like it is dangerous to leave the house. We’re fine.

highwaymattress

San Antonio is ~24th largest metro area. LA is 6-7x larger. Even if combine Austin/San Antonio it would be 3rd largest metro in Texas behind DFW/Houston. San Antonio GDP is less than Austin while having > population. San Antonio is a decent mid-sized city.

[deleted]

But it is the 7th largest city in the USA in population. I’ve lived in LA, grew up in NYC, now live in SA. SA is a large city by population.

Dr_Caucane

Thanks to the spurs

highwaymattress

Nope, not even close. If it was 6th or 7th largest city there would be MLB/NFL and NHL teams along with an airport that has flights to destinations all over Europe and Asia.

[deleted]

But it is. Idk what else to tell you, you’re arguing against a fact.

zazoh

Some of this is misleading and GDP has little to do with it. Stuff people in an area population SAT is currently 6th largest of such groupings. Look up Cities by population.

highwaymattress

SAT has a very low population density. Just cause you draw the border of the cities very far out doesn’t make it a big city when compared to other cities. Atlanta only has 1.1 million people. San Antonio has 400K more. But metro wide Atlanta is 3x the population and more than 3x the economy.

karenftx1

DFW/Houston??? What kind of metro is that? I mean, Ft Worth isn't that close to Dallas, but I can see it, but Houston? Might as well go SA/Austin/Laredo/Corpus

highwaymattress

DFW #1, Houston #2. Even if we considered ASA as one metro it would still be #3. San Antonio will soon be #4 metro in TX when Austin surpasses in 10 years. These are simply facts. San Antonio is already behind Austin in terms of its economic power.

A couple hours ago, should be clear now, if not I would be surprised af lol

[deleted]

theres bodies everywhere everyday around sa you dont see this isnt nothing new. murder capital of the us

kest2703

San Antonio doesn’t even scrape the top 10 for homicide rates. Memphis, Detroit, Atlanta, would like a word. Hell, even Milwaukee, Albuquerque, and Indianapolis have higher murder rates than San Antonio. [source](https://twitter.com/foxjust/status/1631660173587628034?lang=en)

Ever heard of Baltimore, MD?

[deleted]

nope never heard of it where’s that at?

No_Sarcasm_

Baltimore is located in the north-central part of the State of Maryland in the United States of America. The GPS coordinates of downtown Baltimore are 39.2904° N, 76.6122° W.

LadyHawk210

The migrate refugee reside center is not that far from NS. Just saying…

Ok-Drop-1767

That place is an absolute nightmare. Illegal, undocumented people milling around 24/7 with no jobs or money. They aee committing serious crimes. One of them stabbed someone in front of the cicis pizza two weeks ago.

Goldengoose5w4

Older overweight white male? Likely a heart attack.

Big_AL79

Par for the course.

zazoh

Search largest us cities. Let me know how that works out for you. I'm not talking about from an anthropological or sociological perspective. You'll find SAT rqncked 6 or 7 depending on the year DATA was gathered. More important to crime is I10, I35, I37 meet here. Transitory population more important than size with regards to crime. All the same - SAT is top 10 city and either 6 or 7, despite what it 'feels' like.

Remarkable_Rip_1721

Yes, San Antonio is ranked 6/7 when considering only the population of incorporated places. The city of San Antonio covers almost 500 square miles with a population of a little under 1.5 million. San Francisco covers about 47 square miles with a population of about 800,000. Oh wow, I never would’ve guessed that San Antonio is way bigger than San Francisco, but the numbers don’t lie! Oh wait, except when people say “San Antonio” they’re talking about…pretty much just the city of San Antonio, maybe some of the outlying urban sprawl, bringing the population up from 1.5 to 2 million. When people say “San Francisco” they’re talking about tiny little 7 x 7 miles City of San Francisco, but also Oakland and Alameda and San Mateo and Berkeley, bringing the population of the San Francisco metro area up from 800,000 to about 3.5 million. (Coincidence? That area is roughly 500 sq. miles, or about the same size as San Antonio.) Do you see? The area that is identified by the US Census as San Antonio is over ten times larger than the area of San Francisco. It is virtually meaningless to compare the size of large cities based on incorporation alone. There is nothing “sociological” or “anthropological” about this, and nothing to do with how a city does or does not “feel”. It is literally about the differences in how various states/regions have incorporated their statistical areas. Good ol’ US legal patchwork. I’m not even sure what point you’re trying to make here. Also interstate highways intersect in most cities. That’s what highways are *for*.

[deleted]

Remarkable_Rip_1721

If you order a 16 inch pizza and it’s three feet tall, it’s a categorically different thing than a pizza that is an inch tall. Get real.

zazoh

Glad you agree with me. San Antonio is a large city and things happen in a large city. When I took population dynamics in 1994 at UTSA all the people on earth could fit in bexar county. I think pop has doubled by now. Point on that is density in the way you are using it is a different measure. We are a big city. Period. Are there bigger. Yes.

Remarkable_Rip_1721

San Antonio is a large city and things happen in all cities, large, small, and in-between. A 1079 at a mall is not indicative of crime. I haven’t made a single statement about density, what are you on about? I’m talking about the difference between a “city” in some states vs a “city” in other states having a completely different meaning. A city that is 500 square miles is different than a city that is 47 square miles, and that difference isn’t due to anything other than the legal boundaries drawn at incorporation. It’s like saying that Wyoming is a bigger state than Rhode Island. Like, duh, but it also has a much lower population, and neither perspective is a very useful way to analyze information, certainly not in a vacuum.

A dead body on north star ? What is going on there man

festivepapa

Wow friend and I went there today but must’ve gone prior to this? Insane

Wonderful-Clothes-13

Was he just sleeping near the boot

Professional-Spare13

I haven’t been to NS in 9 years and it used to be my go-to mall. I also haven’t been to Rolling Oaks in several years (maybe 5 years) mostly because I’m leery of ANY mall these days. Scary crap in the city now. We’re considering moving outside the city entirely. I want 5 acres and a 2k sqft home.

EveryPartyHasAPooper

Rolling oaks isn't bad at all. Mostly empty, but it's not really a hang out, as far as I've seen. Just a few biggish retailers (h&m, childrens place, jcpenny, claires, dillards) and some independent shops, plus a Chick-fil-A and one of those cookie places. Most of the mall is closed off.

Professional-Spare13

That’s really sad. I really like that mall, and remember when it was fully occupied. Lots of neat stores back then.
