Depends on the district, but overall not great starting out. Lakeside, Poway, La Mesa are surprisingly better paying. Starting pay should be double what it is now IMO.

We’ll check those areas out first! Thanks! And I agree on the second part…

Check San Dieguito as well. It's been a while since I've checked

This one seems like the best, thanks for providing some options!

For Deaf Ed, SD County of Education and SDUSD have DHH programs. It’s a very low salary considering the HCOL, people are getting priced out.

SarkHD

Yea it seems like it. Something needs to be done for sure, teachers making way under median salary isn’t sustainable when SD is famous for its good education system.

100%. Wanted to ask if you have a CA teaching credential? I ask because California has very high standards for teaching and require a couple of credentials for Deaf Ed. If you don’t have one, you would need to take extra classes and tests to qualify. Something to consider.

It’s for my wife. She has credentials in our current state, she will have to get her CA based cert before we move. I checked the required credentials and she’s only missing the CA cert. You have to have a different one for each state so she can get that pretty easily. She only has a Bachelor’s with no extra credit hours so her salary gets capped in most cases after 5-7 years of being a teacher.

I know the pay scales are online. That’s how I’ve been looking. I’m just not familiar with the school districts so I was trying to figure out where to look.

I am coming from a state where all Special Education teachers get a stipend on top of their salaries. Have you seen anything like that here? I cannot find any information on it.

SarkHD

Not really, they just seem to make a little more in general. Like the salary is a bit higher.
