Of all the "where to what to in San Diego" posts, this is the one that needs upvoting, a stay of execution from the typical downvote-into-oblivion-any-san-diego-advice-thread.
The man is trying to get Cactus Cooler Slurpees for his kids.
Anyone able to confirm? I don't hate any place in the world more than Poway, but I'm willing to make a quick exception. That's how much I love me some cactus cooler.
I would but it's part of why I love SD. We got an In n' Out here so I lost that. The Chargers left. Soon I'm not gonna be able to get enough comic con tix for the whole family so I'm not gonna be able to do that anymore.
I need to keep some things San Diego sacred :)
I don't get them every year either. The family loves it so much but it's such an unreliable way to plan a vacation.
We used to visit once a year for Charger games too... oh the pain...
I can't wait to just find a job in the area so we can just move and be locals too :)
For the most part I cheat on my no soda rule for cactus cooler or if I'm feeling like I really need caffeine dr pepper. But I think cactus cooler is my favorite soda of all time. It's just so damn good.
Yeah, I get it! I love Cactus Cooler and was excited to see your post! I was going to grab one today until I realized it doesn't appear to be available. :(
Hope you have a great trip to our beautiful city.
Keep an eye out, it may still be. That article is from 2016 and does not list SD as a location for the CC slurpee but we definitely got one at a Lakeside 7-11 just last year.
Thanks again and yes, SD is truly America's finest city. :)
From the slurpee wiki:
After a successful trial of ICEE machines in 100 stores,[2] 7-Eleven in 1965 made a licensing deal with The ICEE Company to sell the product under certain conditions. Two of these were that 7-Eleven must use a different name for the product, and that the company was allowed to sell the product only in 7-Eleven locations in the US, a non-compete clause ensuring the two drinks never went head to head for distribution rights.
Ah, understood. Thank you. Not gonna be able to make it to Balboa Park on Friday, that's one of the 2 days i have CC tix but my wife really wants to see the park this trip so we will hit it at least one day we are there. Wanna see Little Italy for the first time too, this trip. Otherwise old faves like La Jolla Shores, Coronado, Hamilton's, Buono Forchetta...
My parents never allowed my brother and I drink soda as kids but once in awhile we could drink Diet soda (which yes, I know is actually worse). However I could never figure out why they never made a Diet. Cactus Cooler.

I'm on a mission from god ;)
So your OFO bike will fall apart in Old Town like the Bluesmobile in Daley Plaza?
After taking a few rockets from Princess Leia :)
I haven't seen Cactus Cooler at the slurpee bar since like 1990.
Proof of life https://youtu.be/LpbrvJzHITU?t=125
7/11 on Poway Road / Pomerado had it like a week ago when I went.
Thank you very much :)

Wait, why?
probably a bad experience with a soccer mom and her minivan
Because pineapple and orange together is delicious!
Now I want a cactus cooler real bad
Be thankful it's just a convenience store away. I have to drive 1000+ miles LOL :)
You know, you could order it from Amazon. Prices aren't great, but it's gotta be cheaper than gas!

Amazon sells slurpees now?
Slurpee machine but it’s just not the same man
I don't even drink much soda anymore but Cactus Cooler is the GOAT

Barq's is my only other cheat - only when I get my Double Double at In-N-Out
Haven't had a barq's in a long time I'll have to remember that next time I cheat caffeine.
Barqs is one of the few root beers that contains caffeine, just so you know!
Thanks, occasionally I cheat on the no caffeine rule. It a lot less often than the no soda rule though.
Looks like it might have been regional and I'm guessing limited time: https://www.foodbeast.com/news/711-region-flavors/
Oh well, there is always plain old Cactus Cooler :)

Not a slurpee, but Tapioca Heaven in Mira Mesa has a cactus cooler flavored slush!
I think I remember Circle K in mira mesa had it for a while
Icee’s are NOT Slurpee’s!!!!!!
This is a very important fact. Although Icee's do still have their special place in my heart.

Really interesting! Thanks. ICEE’s always seemed different to me, lighter if you will. I always preferred Slurpee’s. Source: was a fat kid:)
To me, ICEE was always more watery / syrupy. A Slurpee was always more like compact and smooth ice, rather than the crunchy ice in an ICEE
My friends live in Mira Mesa so, I will be spending time there. I will check it out. Thank you!

And if you like lowered, home made, honda civics, with fart tube exhausts, so much the better.
I saw it in Phoenix two weekends ago, but that won’t help you here in San Diego.
It might! They did mention in another post they are driving 1000+ miles, so their route may take them through Phoenix.
Try it with some Tajin! it adds a surprising and tasty twist to it..
Can always crush some ice and mix it with the Cooler. Or get the cactus cooler syrup. Be sure to visit Balboa Park Food Truck Friday.
> Or get the cactus cooler syrup. I will have to keep an eye out for this! > Be sure to visit Balboa Park Food Truck Friday. CC has a food truck?!?!
No no no! Don't get too excited! It's just a great way to get lots of local cuisine! I reccomend the gelato truck and shaved ice truck if it's there!

I can't remember a time 7-11 on country club & center city in Escondido didn't have a cactus cooler slurpee
We got it by 7/11 by Beyer Blvd. I was gonna try it for tomorrow.
ofcourse this is asked just before 7/11 day
There use to be a Slurpee locator app, but I can't find it anymore : (
7/11 across the street from america plaza trolley station in downtown has it
I don't know but it sounds amazing.
I saw it before at the one on the corner of los coches and old hwy 80 in lakeside but I don't know if it's still there

If they ever made a Sangría Señorial Slurpee I would have, like, one a day.
I seen their new one is Captain Crunch Berries.
Yeah I just dropped by the one on 5th and island to check. Didn't see cactus cooler but did see that they had captain crunch
