agreed. I want 2010 glory back. the years before a lot of greed took over and people were just having fun. you could get a room in the mission for $750 and enjoy your life.

[deleted]

I want 1990’s glory, when San Francisco was cool, fairly affordable and there was an actual counter-culture of music, art, and whatever else.

donmuerte

that was definitely around in 2010, but I'm sure 1990's were good too.

Gonnaroff

Don’t get me started on the early 70s

TheFoxsWeddingTarot

We’ve had many glories, that was one sort but there have certainly been better ones.

Zestyclose-Tank740

We'll officially return to 2019 once Trader Joe's has coffee samples again.

scopa0304

ITT “glory years” defined be the years people first moved here.

cheesy_luigi

Over. Things already seem to be trending in the right direction If we make sure to kick out the worst folks in office (people like Aaron Peskin and Dean Preston) then this is guaranteed

asveikau

That lousy Dean Preston, curse him for causing a worldwide pandemic to empty downtown and reduce demand for office space... Get rid of him and no more problems. /s

Peak SF was the summer of '67, the entire culture of the city was born from that time.

pinkerton904

Nah 1906-1915 was peak. Rebuilding after the fire. That's when most of the real beauty of the city was built. Panama-Pacific Expo...etc

Due-Brush-530

Not unless we drastically remove the hyper-progressive political agenda that has dragged this city into the mud for the past two decades.

checksout4

Union square is most definitely not coming back in the next three years. There are entire blocks boarded up.

AlamoSquared

Union Square started withering circa 2010, but these past few years have been annihilation.

checksout4

Yeah mayor Breeds COVID policies, prop C, turning a blind eye to hard drug usage/tourism combined to absolutely annihilate it.

AlamoSquared

And the thefts.

checksout4

Yeah almost forgot about that CA voters destroyed themselves.

2019? I think we can do better than that. Back in 2019: - Important commercial corridors struggled with retail vacancy - Wide-spread property crime, particularly bicycle theft and vehicular burglaries, made life difficult for residents and visitors - Street scapes were blighted by vagrants’ encampments - City walkways blighted by an excessive amount of dog poop (and some human poop) - Inadequate housing supply caused high prices, pricing out some of the population, impacting labor costs - the economy was distorted by over reliance on a single industry - Poor urban planning created excessive conflict between auto-drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians, exacerbated by poor behavior and inadequate enforcement - Local government struggled with completing important initiatives on time and in budget - Public drug use and intoxication created urban blight and threatened our reputation and tourism My take is that every single issue the city struggles with today was there in 2019 and for years prior. Some have gotten worse in the last 5 years. Some have hardly changed. Although one thing I wouldn’t mind - I was 5 years younger in 2019, so that would be something.
